Esmya Tablets Fibroid Treatment

Posted , 151 users are following.

Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.

Thank you

    Hi everyone.

I noted last week that I started Esmya a week ago, but over the weekend I had a severe allergic reaction to the drug? Including major face swelling, and hot rash. . . All I can say is it was NASTY! Has anyone else had any experience of this happening?

Unfortunately this medication was my last defence against surgery number four happening? So who knows what the doctors will do next.

Best, hope everyone is getting on well.

    Tx

    Hi all

Am so glad I found this forum and that I am not the only one with problems. I am 36 have never heard of fibroids until I was diagnosed. I am on day 15 of ESMYA, had the odd blood clot fall out but today experienced flooding and clots it was like another heavy period, very embarrassed as I was at the cinema. yesterday night experienced lower back pain and tingling in my right leg has anyone experienced this? Can anyone recommend a good sanitary pad that would prevent against flooding?

I have to go back to work on Monday and am worried that these clots and flooding can happen again without warning.

2 more weeks before I am scheduled for removal of fibroid. hysteroscopy and transcervical resection. Not sure whether I can manage up until its time for surgery, I don't feel confident going to the office, would appreciate any words of advice or how to deal with this up to date of surgery.

Hi Catherine00242, I too had the same experience as you with Esmya. As with all medications, it is not suitable for everyone and does not work for everyone. Do persevere with it as, although I was still symptomatic throughout, it did shrink some of my fibroids. I used to use Super Plus tampons combined with Asda's own brand of Night time Maxi pads but even with these I often had to change every hour. It's embarrassing and frustrating and I completely understand what you are going through.

I am now booked for a full hysterectomy including ovaries, not an option that I would have liked or preferred but at 44 all other options have been considered and exhausted so for me this is my last try for a normal life. I truly wish you the best luck in the world and hope that things go well with your operation.

Catherine002, have you tried transemic acid? It's a wonder drug for me when I have my period. I'm just not sure if you can take it while on esmya. I'm on month 2 of esmya pills and just got my period. The bleeding and clotting has reduced drastically. Again still not sure that there has been much in the way of fibroid shrinkage. Stay strong girl...if you have surgery around the corner there is a rainbow in sight!

Hi Cam74448, I was told by my consultant that you can take Tranexamic acid with Esmya but it can only be taken for a maximum of 4 days and no longer.

    Good luck with your treatment

Hey Cam74448 yes I was given transmic acid when I went in for a blood transfusion. I still have these. What happens when you stop taking the tablets?

I only used the tablets for the 2-3 heavy days of my period. 3 tablets every 4 hrs. I didn't use them with no period. I'm not sure how safe to take everyday. You should probably consult with your doctor.

Only take transmic acid for up to 4 days, whilst bleeding heavy. It doesn't work for everyone, me included and you can take it when taking esyma.

    Hi kk108

Well that's what I thought but the gyno i saw prescribed a further 3 months after I had completed the initial 3 month term, so in total i took it for 6 months. My reaction to Esmya was minimal in fact i don't think i noticed a difference, only that my fibroids shrunk by about 1cm each (i have at least 6). I feel much lighter now.

I guess it depends on your gyno and how experience he is with prescribing the drug.

But now I need to decide what to do about them before they grow back sad

Its so hard isnt it? I'm seeing mine on 4/11 to decide what to do. What are your thoughts now?

I know if mine came back again I would consider a hysterectomy. Dont think I could deal with it growing back not to mention the symptoms it brings with it
