Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.
Thank you

Oddbits, I went to my gynecologist today as still suffering symptoms post operationen, from a myoma resection by hysteroscopy. And also was very concerned about excercise, as I'm normally a 3 times a week gym person, when I'm not flooding. She advised me that gentle walking was the best form of excercise.

I wish each and every one of you well on your journeys and hope that you all gain some relief from the torture of fibroids in whichever way you are able to.

I stopped taking esmya 2 months ago and my fibroid has doubled in size since, it's grown from 11cm to 20cm in 2 months. I saw my consultant today and have had it confirmed that I will need a hysterectomy. Before that I need to have an MRI scan to rule out cancer because of the rapid growth :-(
I will need to go on GNRH before the op, has anyone taken this? If so how long were you on it and what are the side effects like?

I wrote a little report here last week Ii think, about this little fibroid trip of mine, so far.
And my experience with Esmya.
But now I need some reflections from you guys.
I’m on my 21st day of Esmya. I started on my first day of my period. Which meant that I had like 8 days of period at first. Then I had some light spotting the following 6 days.
Then I had a HUGE hemorrhage.
And after that I had some spotting for the following days. Kind of not like I’ve ever had before. Bigger so to say.
Then I had another hemorrhage.
And after that it’s just pretty much been bleeding ever since. Which was on Thursday. On Thursday my doc prescribed a pill – Cyklonova – which helps the blood to clot. It helped. On Fri. But on Sat the bleeding was back again. Despite the fact of me eating the “coagulation helping pills". It’s not a regular menstrual bleeding of course. It’s more like an open wound. It’s just a steady flood so to say. It just keeps running. Its unbelievable. Today is Monday. I woke up, and it started bleeding. don’t have blood loss right now. I dont think... I’m not that dizzy. I was all last week. I’m just wondering, what the f**k is going on. I’m just thinking that my body doesn’t approve of Esmya. Some doctor said that it might be that my hormones does not want to give in, and doesn’t want to be shut off. But I don’t know, cause this seems more like a blood vessel that just does not want to stop bleeding.
Anyone else that have had this experience?!?!

I have had very similar experiences to you with Esmya, I took them for the full 3 month period prescribed to me.
I have experienced severe 'flooding' and have been admitted to hospital with it once as it was so severe.
I am now booked for a full hysterectomy which is my absolute last resort.
I hope that it will not come to that for you and that the Esmya will start to work.

Thank U for sharing your experience. Good to know that someone has had similar experiences. My doctors haven't had anyone else with this reaction. So they don't really know what to say.
And no, it will never come to hysterectomy for me. I will never allow it. Since I haven't had any kids yet. I'll make it work some other way.

I’ve got 2 weeks left of a 3 month course of esmya. My first two weeks were horrendous, the worst bleeding and clotting ever. If I hadn’t had a blood transfusion 3 weeks prior to taking it I would have been in hospital. Then I had steady bleeding ‘spotting’ for weeks. I had about 3 weeks with no blood in sight but it slowly came back – the heavy spotting. I have two weeks to go and last Friday I passed the biggest clot approx. 10 inches I was in the shower (sorry if its too much info!!) and lost loads of blood in a very short space of time.
I didn’t pass out but felt very unsteady on my feet. I’ve been taking it easy and started taking tranexmic acid for four days. I’m just light spotting at the moment. Trying to get an appointment to get a blood test and see my gp. This has totally freaked me out as I only have two weeks left of this medication and I am due to have a hysterectomy in January. So will have 6 weeks of anxiety and panic without medication except tranexmic acid! Also have to keep my bloods up for the operation. I didn’t particularly want a hysterectomy, I’m 43 with no children but it seems like my only way to get some sort of life back. May be I’ll feel human and attractive again and if not no more bleeding!!

My brown spotting started about 3 years ago (before I was diagnosed with evil, evil fibroids)
The spotting would start about 3-5 days before my period came; then I would get my period. My Doctor tried putting me on numerous different birth control pills as he thought the brown spotting was "old" blood and that the pills just weren't strong enough.
I've been wondering if all the different levels of hormones I put into my body over the past 3 years is what started the fibroids? I've been reading that fibroids can be triggered by hormone imbalances, too much, or too little of your body producing hormones and foods that are high in estrogen....

Oh… that seems like quite of an ordeal, your experience with Esmya.
Then I know that I’m not alone!
And it’s not too much to share.
We all know how it is. We’re in the same boat.
Everyone should do as they feel right for themselves, so don’t take this the wrong way.
You might have been through all your options a long time ago.
But if not, make sure that you really have investigated all your options before you have an hysterectomy.
I truly believe that there are lots of other options.
First of all, the options a regular doctor won’t give you.
I know what acupuncture really can help. But… of course if the fibroids are as big as mine, and maybe yours?, its harder…
Or Embolization for example.
Has your doctor out ruled that option?
Or some of the newer technics, or changing your food or lifestyle?
As I said, I really don’t want to tell you what to do, you know best what you want and need. I’ve just met so many that haven’t known their options. So…
Good luck with everything!!

Thanks for your advice much appreciated, I’m not taking it the wrong way all suggestions are welcome
The only option I had from my gp was the mirena coil and that was the only reason she sent me to see a consultant! Then norestherone after my blood transfusion. If I saw one when my fibroids were smaller, I probably wouldn’t be going through what I am right now. It was only through research that I discovered the alternatives and insisted on a scan (I had to fight quite hard for this) before I would even consider they insert the coil . I’ve never considered acupuncture before, although I have seen people mention it here on the forum. My gynae suggested embolization however after the mri realised it would only treat the small fibroids that aren’t really a problem but the main one has its own blood supply so that course of treatment wouldn’t work so has been ruled out. The consultant has suggested that there is a slight possibility that the main fibroid is on a stalk and they could then perform a myomectomy but this could only be done under anesthetic so would proceed to hysterectomy if that wasn’t the case. But I would still have the other smaller fibroids that cause me pain
I have adjusted my lifestyle decreased my stress levels, internalising stuff and taking on other people’s stresses and problems. That’s helped quite a lot. I changed my diet and started eating organic foods and milk. Haven’t felt confident enough to start exercising (frightened I might flood), I struggle with gentle exercise as I’m a team sports type person and like high impact stuff like netball, squash, basketball, but have been looking into yoga.
My main troublesome fibroid is 9cm. How big is/are yours?
Thanks for your advice and support x
