Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.
Thank you

I was surprised that some of you had been taking Esmya for so long? I was told that 6 months is the max with a month break in between. I have an Ultrasound appointment next Monday following the first 3-months of Esmya; the plan so far is to continue for a further 3 months as they seem to have worked for me. After that will switch to Zoladex injections. If at all avoidable I wouldn’t want to have a full surgical removal

( If you are late forties you can perhaps bide your time until menopause)

I have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids and my gynaecologist has put me on a 3 month course of Esmya . I am currently 3 weeks into treatment and feeling fine apart from about 5lb weight gain and feel bloated. Has anyone else experienced this and does this side effect pass as your body gets adapted to the medication?

I'm really interested in the fact that you had a hysteroscopic resection as they don't seem that common. I have a 7cm submucosal fibroid and I'm on day 20 of ESMYA. My consultant is aiming for 2 treatments and then hopefully a resection. How was the procedure? What size was your fibroid when they did it? Was there a lot of bleeding or pain afterwards? Any info you could share would be great. Thanks.

My submucosal one was 2cm, I think they can do this procedure only if they are reasonably small - perhaps under 4cm ( approx.?) and of course only if submucosal, ( they cannot get to the intramurals or subserosals that way). That is probably why you are on esmya as well to try to reduce the size of it first before the procedure. After the procedure I think there was a bit of bleeding for a few days but some women have this done with local anaesthesia and I asked for general I'm afraid. Because of that you have a bit of time getting over the anaesthetic and everyone reacts differently to that. I was a bit sick afterwards and my blood pressure went low but because I could not eat for that period of time. You cannot eat from midnight the night before and then your body is given anaesthesia and other mild pain relief drugs so no wonder you feel sick etc afterwards. I have not had any children and thought it would would be more painful for me thats why I chose general. (1st time I had had general as well ). I also had an endometrial biopsy at the same time. I did have mild pain afterwards for some weeks but that might be me, I have pelvic pain anyway so it could have exacerbated that. Some people don't have it for as long. The expected recovery states one to two weeks. It was probably worth getting it out. There was an effect on the periods they were slightly lighter for me. I am now on my second course of Esmya to help reduce the others.
Good luck.

Hi Caz, I also have a 7cm submucosal fibroid, it's very low, impacting my cervix. It's caused very heavy periods, large clots and flooding, severe anaemia, been to hospital for 3units of blood transfused at end of August. I saw a gynaecologist today & he's suggested Esyma along with tranexamic acid if necessary. I think the position of my fibroid will prevent me from having a resection and I'm so fed up I'm favouring a hysterectomy to be honest as I'm done having kids, I'm 39. I just wondered if you'd mind updating me on how Esyma works for you as submucosal fibroids are comparatively rare.... I hope you get good results and soon X
