Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.
Thank you

I was told that I had many large fibroids and was told to have a hysterectomy. I did not want that to be my first option. I've been on Esmya, or Fibristal here in Canada 3 times. It has helped me a lot with my symptoms. I did have a hard time during the time you wait between taking the drug. But each time was easier. The main side effect that I suffered on the medication was being tired and on one cycle I did have some hot flashes. I have been off the medication now for a little over a month. Currently I am symptom free and I can't feel my fibroids anymore, however I am sure they are still there. I'm considering going on the medication for a 4th time. I'm hoping that will take me to menopause. I also found a discussion on here that stated that women who have fibroids are magnesium deficient and the best way to get the magnesium is use it as a spray on your skin. (I spray it right on my belly because it causes a warm/itchy sensation and feels comforting there, but just annoying on other areas.) I have been symptom free around the same time I started doing this. I can't say for sure that it's the magnesium that is contributing, but I've been feeling so much better I'm going to continue to do it, and the spray is inexpensive. I actually signed on here to thank the person for posting the comment. I have my next Gyno appointment in October. I will know then how well things have worked out. I've also had to drastically change my diet due to a sulfite sensitivity (no processed foods). I think this has helped out as well. I would definitely try the drug before any other more invasive procedures, especially if you have a drug plan. The medication is expensive. Here in Canada it's around a thousand dollars for a 3 months supply.

i have been on the the Esmya for one month now gone into the 2nd month and it still didn't stop heavy bleeds for me which is very annoying. although i feel more lighter so i guess it is shrinking the fibs but am thinking of going to the doc to get another pill to take if it can at least stop the heavy bleeds
.
What i want to know is Has anyone taking esmya and transmexic acid the same time? cos it looks like the esmya does not stop the bleed for me.

Hi I'm not sure if I'm posting this right as have only just joined. I've had fibroid 10cm and ovarian cysts for 20 years now. It's been very painful. I've always been scanned as my mum died of ovarian cancer but it was only in January this year that I was offered treatment. I opted for hormone injections to bring on like the menopause but the side effects were too bad for me. I then went on esyma 4 months ago and these were great. But the break you have to have in between has been the worst thing ever. I had the most heavy period and whilst waiting for the second period so I could start on esyma again I got urine retention and had to go to the out of hours Dr in the middle of the night 3 times to be catheterised. They've now left me with a Foley catheter in which they say will be until my hysterectomy. About a month away. I'm worried as they won't test anything else. I asked to be referred to urology but they say it's probably the huge fibroid blocking your bladder or the womb is contracting against your bladder. Has anyone else experienced this? I did take the tranxamic acid during my last period in the break from esyma. I've started taking esyma again today and am hoping it stops me bleeding as I have the catheter tube inside me and all the nurse said when I expressed my concerns at being on with a tube in me was that it would get very messy. Xx

I've been on Esmya for 2 months now. It reduced my period. The first one where it was only 3 days and very light. I experienced light headed and dizziness every now again along with what felt like an elevated temperature on some nights.

I got my period 10 days after.
I advise to spwak to yr doctor as you may have to wait until you get your periods in order to restart the Esmya.

Hi Chris, I took esmya for 3 months during which time it shrank my10cm fibroid to actually show two smaller ones measuring about 8cm in total. I suffered badly during the 2 month break that you have to have. I'm back on esmya now and hoping to get a date for a hysterectomy. I don't have any bad side effects taking esmya. Good luck. Janice x
