Posted , 151 users are following.

Hello I'm 44 and have recently been diagnosed with a 11cm Fibroid, my Gyno has put me on Esmya to try and shrink the fibroid, I just wondered if any one could me advice or their review as its fairly new treatment and can't find anyone who has tried it.

Thank you

Wow Tina that is a great result! Do you know what kind of fibroid you have? Mine is pedunculated and apparently the results aren't always as good with this type as with other types of fibroid but I am living in hope that mine will respond.

How long do people think it takes before you notice any changes. I too am willing my stomach to flatten!

Hi Tina, fantastic result! Its so encouraging to hear it works.

Did you have any symptoms from the fibroids before esmya and are they any better now?

    Hi All,

I have to say I am really frustrated at the moment, I have been having problems with periods for 5 years now.

The end of last month I was admitted into hospital because I have been bleeding since November 2012, my doctor would not refer me to gyno, so it took being rushed to A&E to finally get a diagnoses. I was losing 2 units of blood in 2 days when I was in hospital, then having a blood transfusion, tests and scans done I was told I had 2 large fibroids at least. I have been put on Esmya, as was told this would stop my bleeding and shrink the fibroids.

I am losing faith, I have finished my first box of this medication and I am still bleeding very heavy. Everyone seems to have good results, but has anyone had problems with bleeding? I am wondering if I should phone my specialist on Tuesday because I cant carry on bleeding like this for 2 more months it may drive me insane.

    Hi Littlemissme,

I totally understand your frustration as I also went through three months of bleeding before the fibroids were diagnosed.

I think it would be advisable to get hold of your doctor and have this checked out. If you don't feel like you are getting the right care I would get a second opinion.

Good luck and hang in there!

    Hej again.

It seems to me, that most of the people here, already have children. Am I right?

I haven't had any kids yet... but REALLY want to.

Is there anyone out there, that are in the same situation as me??

I have like… 6 big fibroids and as it is right now, they take up too much space, in order for me to bear children.

So I need them to “go away”…

But my doctors only give me the advice to have them removed with an ordinary surgery… which they can’t promise will work… since the fibroids are as large as they are… and since they are a part of the uterus wall…

I'm wondering: Can one eat these Esmya more than ones!!!???

      Hi there

I also really want to have children. Im 37 and have v bad fibroids, too many to operate. I had an operation to remove them in 2012 but they are back. Im going to start esmya and if they shrink they will implant 2 eggs via IVF. I hope you also found or are finding a way forward. Good luck.

      Dear Cookiesson,

I also haven't had kids, am 36 years old and ... well, definitely I cannot write off the thought of having a child.

It seems like we are in quite similar situations...

I was diagnosed with 5-6 big fibroids last December, and have tried homeopathic treatments, diets, lots of things as I am very scared of the operation ruining the uterus.

Now they are so big that the doctors have advised me to try Esmya to shrink them before an operation. So --- I am trawling around for information here.

I will try to embrace this thought of shrinking them with the medicine, even though I am very reluctant to eat hormonal medicine...

But yes, according to the doctors here in Denmark, after the first 3-month cycle, you can take another one, but first you have to wait for the period to come back, two times I think.

      Best of luck!

      Hi there niki08732

I am new in this forum and just came across your text.  I might be 7 months too late but just wanted to know what happened with your fibroids and did you get pregnant after the IVF?.  I am almost in the same situation as you.  I have started taking esmya(still the first month) I was wondering did the esmya work for you?

I've just been put on Esmya for multiple large fibroids which have caused DVT, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhea & chronic anaemia. I am very concerned that everything I read seems to indicate a daily dose of 5mg, however I have been advised to take 30mg per day.

What dose is everyone else taking?

Really worried about side effects too, would appreciate hearing what anyone is experiencing.

    Thank you for any feedback.

      Dear Doreen, Anna and Carole

I took 5mg for 3 months but I have no evidence it has reduced the size of them at the moment ( I have many small ones which accummulatively cause pelvic pain) and following a two month break I am gonna restart it again in the next couple of weeks as it is worth a try. (I have not had a scan to confirm but how I feel is enough). It is helpful that your periods stop whilst taking but I am more keen to seek a reduction in the other discomfort they cause.   (Carole - If you are still on this forum I never heard of a dose of 30mg of ullipristal acetate for fibroids I thought that was 5 or 10mg. I have heard of 30mg for the morning after pill use as a one off dose). It would be good to hear how you got on.

My daughter had 6 subcutaneous Zoladex injections. Her fibroid was 12 X 12. About size of a melon. It shrunk by 3cm in 3 months then to size of the surgeon's fist when she had open abdominal myomectomy to remove. She is now 5 days post op and recovering well x

agree with Shell i have only heard of low dose for fibroids. a dose of  30mg of ullipristal acetate is what is used as morning after pill/emergency contraception.

    Hi Carole

30mg does seem to be a high dose. I am on 5mg daily and I understand that this is the recommended amount for most people. I think you would need to ask your doctor whether there are particular reasons why you are on a higher dosage. My only side effects so far have been a few spots so I can't complain about that but the fibroid does not seem to be shrinking so far. Am only three weeks into taking the tablets so I need to be patient!
