Everyday dizziness while walking, standing and feeling unbalanced on my feet.

I have dizziness everyday while walking, standing as well as feeling off balance, unsteady on my feet like I am gonna fall over. I have had my ears checked by an ENT doctor in 2014 and he said I had menieres disease so he treated it as that but medicine didn't help so went to another ENT doctor in 2015 who said I don't have menieres disease but have hearing loss in both ears and did a test on my vestibular function which he said was normal so he referred me to a neurologist and I went and had an MRI done which was normal as well. I have had blood work done in November last year and my white blood count was a little high but not concerning and everything else was normal....no diabetes. Also had a stress test done on heart and was normal. I am at my wits end with this cause I don't know what's going on. I plan to see an eye doctor soon. Oh and I was diagnosed with anxiety 4 months ago but this dizziness and off balance feeling has been going on for 2 years now. I am on blood pressure medicine too. don't know what else to do. Does anyone have these same symptons ?

Hi I'm so sorry you're going through this, I know exactly how you feel! I've had the same symptoms for three months now. I have a constant feeling of dizziness and imbalance and also a dull headache. The symptoms vary in intensity, I've had two episodes of really intense symptoms that last around a week and my third episode started two days ago and is still ongoing now. It too is ruining my career as I'm currently in my first year of training to be a pharmacist but I've already had to take severe days off of work and had an informal meeting regarding my absence. It's incredibly difficult to concentrate and sometimes I cannot stand up for long periods which my job requires me too. I have always been incredibly active which I think is the most difficult for me as I now struggle to go to the gym or do any form of exercise. I had to leave a gym class after 15 minutes this morning as I thought I was going To collapse! I have recently seen a new doctor as the previous two I have seen were useless. She has started me on Betahistine which I'm praying works! If it doesn't she told me to go back to see her and she will perform some head manoeuvres and refer me to a specialist! I just wish this would all stop! If it ever does stop I'm never taking being healthy for granted again!

      Hello Charlotte ,

I am sorry you are going thru this as well. It is really hard to deal with, especially when you don't know what is causing it. This morning at work I had an episode where I felt nauseated, shaky, dizzy, headache and felt like I wasn't getting enough oxygen. I have had a lot of tests done and still don't know what's causing it. Have you had your ears, brain and heart checked ? I have had all done and was normal. I am going to Dr again this month and have them do a complete blood work up , like checking my vitamin levels as well as my magnesium level too as I I have read it can cause dizziness and off balance symptoms.

I have had a full blood test done and everything came back normal. I haven't had in depth tests done on my ears and heart. Just the basic looking in the ears and listening to the chest xx

Oh OK . I am glad all was normal. Next time see if the Dr can check your vitamin levels and magnesium level too. When you get other tests done and they are normal then it will be hard to pin point where this dizziness is coming from. Idk what else to do.

      Hello Charlotte

I was wondering if the Betahistine has helped you. I have been dealing with this for a year.  All my good work has been normal. Going for more blood work and an MRI per my neuro. I have seen two eye doctors and not one has brought up vertical heterophoria which I am going to look into myself. I have been to the cardiologist and put on medicine to raise. Y blood pressure. That seeemd to help for a bit but now my BP is normal and I am still having this off balance issue and dizziness. It's starting to depress me. I have also been to an ENT and a vestibular therapist. No real answers. I am grasping for anything that might help. So I was wondering if that medicine has helped you.. thanks sooo much

I know exactly what you mean. I've had this feeling every day for years now. It's so frustrating. So many tests that always come back normal. EEG, EKG, blood work, glycemic test, MRI, hearing test, etc. They said it was panic attacks so I was prescribed antidepressants which I quit taking because it's not anxiety. I get anxiety because I feel like I'm going to fall over or black out or something. I'm tired of nobody having an answer. I am seeing an ENT on 2/1 so we'll see what he says. I think a balance test would be good, and after reading this discussion I'd like to check out vertical heterophoria symptoms. I never feel like working because of this feeling. It always comes on a few hours after I've been awake and it lasts for hours, if not all day. Has anyone gotten results since the last few replies?

This is exactly how I feel on a everyday basis Michele I've had 2 mri , which were clear, x2 lots of anxiety tablets that made me sleepy and worse! Waiting on ENT appointment but they won't do anything for me now til I've had my baby in may! It really gets me down and I feel so unsafe on my feet like I'm going to pass out wherever I go? What is your final diagnosis then please? How u been doing? Thanks Kirsty x

Hello Michele, I've had all the same problems plus tinnitus, which I've had for 2+ years. About 18 months ago the dizzy spells started and I was prescribed Betahistine 16mg (3 times daily) which helped during the day, but I was still getting them ar night. As soon as Iay down, the dizziness starts. Went back to GP who prescribed Cinnarizine, one at night, as well as theBetahistine. He also said I could take more as required(up to 3). This helped but recently it has stopped being effective. I feel dizzy all the time. I'm restricted in what I can take as I had a stroke 5 years ago and am on Warfarin.

I am contemplating seeing an alternative therapist to see if that helps as I am desperate.

Hello Pauline. I am sorry you are going thru this too. It is debilitating at times. I am now seeing a chiro for adjustments to see if that helps. Who prescribed you the betahistine ?

I actually experience the same thing as yours and I can't overcome the dizziness that I'm having as well. I tried to eat Panadol, Paracetamol but nothing works for me too. I have been experiencing this for more than a few years. I'm still trying to find out how to get over this dizziness because it can affect my daily activities. I'm going overseas soon and I'm afraid that the dizziness would worsened because of the movement in the airplane.

Hi michelemuffin how long have you been taking blood pressure medications?
    • Posted

I have been taking blood pressure medicine since 2012. I started with 10 mg, then went to 20 mg and now at 40 mg.

Do you recal if your symptoms started soon after you medication was increased? Do you only take Lisinopril or is there also a diuretic?

I keep thinking that my symptoms didn't start til after I started taking lisinopril but not sure if it was cause of the mg increase. No diuretic
