Everyday dizziness while walking, standing and feeling unbalanced on my feet.

I have dizziness everyday while walking, standing as well as feeling off balance, unsteady on my feet like I am gonna fall over. I have had my ears checked by an ENT doctor in 2014 and he said I had menieres disease so he treated it as that but medicine didn't help so went to another ENT doctor in 2015 who said I don't have menieres disease but have hearing loss in both ears and did a test on my vestibular function which he said was normal so he referred me to a neurologist and I went and had an MRI done which was normal as well. I have had blood work done in November last year and my white blood count was a little high but not concerning and everything else was normal....no diabetes. Also had a stress test done on heart and was normal. I am at my wits end with this cause I don't know what's going on. I plan to see an eye doctor soon. Oh and I was diagnosed with anxiety 4 months ago but this dizziness and off balance feeling has been going on for 2 years now. I am on blood pressure medicine too. don't know what else to do. Does anyone have these same symptons ?

After feeling light headed/ dizzy for a while a few weeks ago I went to see my GP. It was then that they discovered I had very high blood pressure. The medication seems to have lowered it to normal levels now and although dizziness is usual associated with low blood pressure I had hoped that the dizziness would subside. I don't drink alcohol now and have not done so for some years but if someone were describe how I feel I would say like a bad hangover as I sometimes get headaches with it too.

My bloods came back normal but I go to see my GP this work and I suspect they will refer me to neurology. Having said that, since I have suffered with anxiety and depression for many years I think the the doctors have so far put it all down to that. If I want an MRI I am going to have to insist on it. Since General practitioners now manage thire own financial budget I always have it on my mind that they may miss something because sending someone for an MRI scan costs a lot of money.

One thing I have noticed is that when I do start to feel dizzy my hearing seems to be sensitive and sometimes everything seems loud. The doc checked my eras and said there wax build up but no infection. My condition is very debilitating and effects my work because I work as a church minister in media which involves working on audio production. This involves staring at a computer monitor and more often than not I get a kind of fuzzy, heaviness in my head that prevents me from getting any work done. I am afraid to walk too far as I don't feel totally secure on my feet and imagine that I would probably walk as though I am suffering the after effects of drinking alcohol form the night before, still slightly tipsy.

Barry are still high bp meds? If so what kind? Bp meds have lot of side effects dizziness and headaches, cough and nausea to name afew.

Dizziness and room spinning is how mine started. See an audiologist. I think I had Meniers disease. I went deaf.

Good you are going to neuro route too. They can help you focus and concentrate when at your computer.

Currently I can relate to to the "drunk" walk. I got a rollater to help with stability. Without it, I wobble all over the sidewalk or parking lot and fell daily. Now no more falls. You should try one.

      Sincerely, Tro

I have been told I have labrinthitus but without wishing to worry anyone on hear I believe that the same symptoms care also related to early stages of MS. This is why it worries me that my GP has not sent me for an MRI scan.

He tells me that this condition can last days, weeks and even years but I have had this for around 8 weeks now and don't understand why I am not being sent for tests. I would suspect that an MRI scan it is quite expensive and since I think it is paid for by the medial practice I do worry that their budget is being put before my health.

Hi Barry, CT and MRI are very expensive, see how much your Insr will cover, If you only have to do this once. It may be worth the expense just to find out what really is causing the dizziness.

      Hi Dee,

It sounds to me like your problem has to do with the vestibular part of your brain malfuncting. I don't think an ENT will help unless you are vomiting too.

I spend tons of time in bed as well. I cannot drive. This sucks as I am only 45. I can't bring my chair with wheels in my house. So, I can and have lost my balace on flat surfaces like the kitchen or bathroom. But for walking on sidewalks and in store parking lots it has proven invaluable. My rollater helps my stability. I don't go shopping or to restaurants without it.

      Sincerely, Tro

It's like only when I stand on my feet when I'm laying down it's fine when I'm sitting up I start feeling funny and no I can't drive and then I start panicking due to not knowing what's going on with me it's horrible I'm also 45 years old to it sucks ive actually ordered the oil called di-vertigo you should look it up its cost me £30 but everyone swears by this so I've brought some and awaiting delivery hopefully this helps me thru the day they say it takes effect with in 5 min so let's see if that's true so really no one can help me with this then it's something you have to self medicate and get on with life

      Dee,

Wow I've never heard of this oil. Let me know if it helps you. I do suggest you get a rollater to help when you are up and about.

      HI Dee

What is the diagnoses you have been given?. I too find it very debilitating. I can walk around the house okay but not for long without having to sit. My cognitive skills are effected too as I have noticed that I have to think about every little thing I do before I do it. It is like when you are learning to drive and everything you do is stilted and is not natural to you but then over time you become one with the car and just do things automatically.

I no longer feel one with my body and so can no longer automatically shift from one task to another. My job can be complex, involves a lot of multi tasking and requires careful planning and focus. I can do most of my work from home but it is just impossible with this thing. I have been unable to work for about two months since this thing kicked in fact some days just peeling an orenge can be a complicated task for me.

My GP tells me I have labyrinthitus but I am not so sure. The worst part of this for me is the uncertainty because there are so many neurological conditions that have the same symptoms. This is why it is difficult for doctors to properly diagnose it even with MRI scans. What can make things worse is the feeling that you are alone. I am sorry you are suffering but I thank you and the other guys for sharing because it is good to know we are not alone. Please keep in touch so I can hear how things are going.

      All the best

      Barry

Hi Barry I haven't propley been diagnosedas they keep telling me it's vertigo and libriaithis and tbh my ears are fine they don't hurt keep telling me I have a infection in left ear and waxy in the other but I've had several meds and it's not helping I can't even stand and cook a slice of toast without having to run back to the sofa to find my comfort so it calms down again the only way this is controlled is laying down Barry it's the most herrondouse feeling I've ever experienced

      Hi Dee

I have also been told that my condition is due to Labyrinthitis too and my heart goes out you you, it really does. Obversely I won't say anything that would depute what your doctors say in regard to an ear infection but I understand your frustration. It is unusual to have an ear infection without any pain. That being said, it can manifest itself in headaches. This is certainly my experience anyway but at any rate, difficulty with hearing is as you may know typical of labyrinthitis

When you start googling and read that it should clear up in a few weeks it can be quite scary because it is easy to imagine that you in fact have something else far more sinister. This is particularly when the symptoms are as bad as you describe. It is also easy to lose confidence in your GP but the condition is notoriously difficult to diagnose and treat What has helped me however is not so much articles that provide a medical judgement on the condition.

Some articles on the subject have the effect of making you feel even more anxious because you quickly learn that the condition is diverse in its effects, in other words an unknown quantity. No, what has helped me is rather getting a comprehensive perspective of it from those who have experienced it. The website below is really encouraging and informative. It has helped in that regard and if you go through the pages my hope is that you will find some comfort in it too. Stay strong Dee, I am rooting for you. http://www.labyrinthitis.org.uk/diagnosis.htm

HEy there, unfortunately I'm still not able to find The solution I would request you to consult a psychiatrist before going anywhere else also go for a MRI as psychiatrist would recommend you that. Get yourself tested from an ent because after reading all the comments done by people here I have found out they have exactly the same problem which gives me a little relief as I used to think my symptoms are rare and weird and no one faces it except me. Here we have to stay strong and positive we have to find a cure and don't panic dear try to Be happy Ik it's not easy to Ben happy but keep your mind happy
