Excessive head and face sweating

Posted , 301 users are following.

I am 63 and for the last 22 years have suffered with excessive sweating on my head and face, which seems to be getting worse.  This is uncomfortable and embarrassing.  If I do anything even slightly energetic (hoovering, ironing etc.) it is worse, and it takes a long time for me to cool down.  I was referred to a dermatologist who prescribed pills, which just dried up my eyes (red, sore and bloodshot within 30 mins) and mouth (making it impossible to eat or even speak).  She point blank refused to consider any other treatment, even telling me botox does not work for the face, which i know is untrue.  This condition, to other people, seems trivial but it is not.  In the summer I cannot go outside, so I can't even play with my grandchildren.  I certainly couldn't go out shopping or to a social event, the sweat drips off me and my hair is drenched within minutes.  I obviously cannot use make-up, or even have a decent hairstyle, which zaps the confidence.  I do have a thyroid problem but that is well controlled.  I am a little overweight but not much.  I have other non-related medical conditions (arthritis, fibromyalgia).  Has anyone any experience of the new gadget around which includes a mask for the face, plugged into a machine - sorry I can't remember the name of it.  I know they are very expensive but I am desperate.  Any helpful tips would be great.  Thank you.

So it's only been about 3 years since I started dripping from my forehead, back of the neck and all over my scalp and it is so out of control!

Now when I was in middle school I started sweating profusely on my armpits, so much so I would take a shower in the morning, put a shirt on and by the time I got to school I had a sweat stain that traveled halfway down my shirt. I wore black so that is was not noticeable. When I got in high school I was over hiding it so I started wearing tank tops thinking that maybe the air would dry it up...nope. my armpit looked like a leaking water faucet. Finally I had my mom make an appointment to the doctors and he told me about drysol. Very skeptical yet out of options I thought why not. So I tried it. I put it on my underarms the first night and kept it on all night washed it off in the morning got to school and I had very little sweat stains. I tried it the second night and the next day when I went to school my shirt was dry. I could not believe that it actually worked. My underarms have been trying ever since.

Skip ahead many years and now I have the same problem except it's happening to my head. I found this discussion doing some research online hoping I would get some answers but nothing I would be willing to try. After an exercise class and my baby hairs on the back of my neck kept dripping down my back I thought this is it I am going to out the drysol on my head. After doing some research and seeing that drysol can be used on any part of your body I tried it and IT WORKED! Drysol has been amazing to me once again. Please please please look it up make sure all the ingredients you are not allergic too and get it. It's a topical liquid. No pills or injections just topical liquid. I hope this works for you as it did for me.

Coincidentally, I started using Natural Crystal Deodorant Spray which I spray on my fingertips and apply to my skull - back of the neck and around the ears.  I must say it does help,   Instead of dripping literally, I just feel moist in my hair on top and back of my head.  Drysol?  Did you have any skin irritations?  When you get hot, does it feel like your blood is boiling within?  OMG sometimes I cannot believe the intensity.  Thanks so much for the information - Diana

There was one time I used it and it itched really bad, it was because I had shaved under my arms but that was the only time. After the first 3 uses my underarms were completely dry even in the hottest of days and I never felt over heated. My doctor said that we are supposed to sweat but when it gets out of control it's due to over active sweat glands, medication or an underlining medical problem. Since I didn't have any medication that was causing it or a medical problem the excessive sweating wasn't to cool my body down it was an excessive gland issue. Drysol was an unbelievable miracle in my life because the excessive sweating felt like it was taking over my Life

Well...I can see I am not alone. I had enough and googled excessive facial sweating and this discussion came up.

I just lift my arms, and I'm sweating. Lol. Exaggerating a bit but it doesn't take much more than that. It's dripping in my eyes and my hair soaking wet makes me want to die of embarrassment.  Seeing a woman with sweat dripping off her eyelashes is Aarrrgghhh!!  I'm going to ask my Dr about that pill. I'm a bit overweight maybe that's the issue?

I can't even start doing a small household project. I'm running to find a tissue with my eyes closed bumping into things. If I MUST get something done, I turn my air down so I can accomplish it. Also, It's just my head too. I thought for sure Botox would work. Is this pill something you take forever or temporarily?

    Thanks for discussion!

Hi everyone contributing to this forum, I would firstly like to say thank you to everyone for being so honest and open about this hugely embarrassing condition, I was beginning to feel like I was the only person that is having this experience!

I have always had excessive facial sweating for as long as I can remember, mainly when its hot weather or during any kind of physical exertion, however since being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 4 years ago, the problem has got progressively worse, to the point where I don't even want to move. I certainly avoid being seen in public as my face and head literally drip with sweat constantly. I do not seem to sweat excessively anywhere else on my body, mainly my face. I have just turned 40. I would like to share that I have just tried this product, Neat 3b face saver gel. I am amazed with the results. I understand that it may not work for everyone and it isn't a cure, however for the first day in 4 years I have not had any sweat running down my face and while I still feel hot the improvement is notable. I applied it and dried my face with a fan, until it was completely moisture free, then put my make up over the top. Again drying with a fan. That was 12 hours ago. I have done house work, walked up and down flights of stairs at work, walked the dog and still no sign of sweat on my face, the same can't be said for my scalp, but its a small price to pay! I will be asking my doctor about the oxy tablets mentioned on this forum, but just thought some other sufferers may want to give it a go 😊.

Hi, I've just joined and I too am struggling with severe sweating from my head and face. I completely relate to those who say their hair is soaked in seconds - I've lost count of the number of family occasions where I arrive and immediately am soaked with that just washed hair look and wet face, neck and chest.

?I have gone through the menopause (well periods stopped completely about 3 years ago). I have a number of health issues M.E./CFS osteoarthritis and have been having night sweats and insomnia for about 3 years. I am prescribed Amitriptyline - currently 30mg each night - they help with sleep, pain from joints, hot sweats and depression (my Dad died 3 years ago). This head and face sweating is debilitating, I wear cotton next to my skin I shower daily. I have tried all kinds of deodorants. I change my clothing 2/3/4 times a day because they become soaked with sweat.

When I do get a break in between sweating I feel headachey and very tired.

?If anyone has any suggestions, anything they find helps, please please let me know. Short of spending my days in a bath of cool water, I don't know what else to do.

    Thanks

Hi Gill, I'm so glad i found this discussion. I thought I was the only woman who has craniofacial hyperhidrosis. I have been sweating since I was 20 !! I am so scared the next summer in before winter begins. It's a nightmare , l would love to go back to Germany, but I'm almost 70 and I think it's not easy starting over with only my $900 in social security. I feel so hopeless and alone. When I started on oxycodone, l thought it would take care of this issue, but it's only good for my pain and anxiety !! I've been on it since since 2011. I have RA, torn rotator cuff, FYBROMYALGIA, 4 herniated discs in my lower back, 2 on my neck, and 6 months ago I slipped and broke the bone on my right wrist. My wrist got better but the bone is protruding and I have mobility issues with my right arm. I spoke to my pcp, and he is giving me klonapin for anxiety and to help me sleep. I spoke to a neurologist who suggested I smoke medicinal marijuana, but it's not helping me. How I wish there was a cure. The only thing that would help is moving back to Germany or any part of northern Europe. Wish I had a friend who'd like to move with me to a place that's forever spring. If anyone has any ideas, please keep me posted! Or if you're in New York city, I'd love to chat with you or we could meet . I'd give you my tel. Number, if you'd like!!! I wish l never had stayed here. My son was all I cared about, bought a condo that he loved , and put it in his name. Biggest mistake in my life. He's a partner in a law firm, very successful and is married to the daughter of one of the greatest scientist, they have 2 children, 3 and 1, haven't since them nor my son since 2012. He just bought a 3 million house in San Francisco! Please accept my apology for changing the subject !! If you have any ideas about the excessive head and face sweating, please let me know, and of course I will do the same. Thanks for listening to me, and it's comforting to know I am not alone!!😍😍😍

I have the exact problem as you. Worse yet I am on OXYCODONE 30mg since 2012, due to a bad car accident. I am 68 but I been in this situation since I came to New York from Hamburg, Germany. So I can't deal with the heat and humidity in the summer, I've never been exposed to this kind of weather in Europe! Unfortunately I 've been here for 39 yrs! When I was working, I spent my 3 months vacation overseas but now I'm on social security and I get exhausted flying, and of course I don't have the money I had, but worse of all I don't have any friends to travel with. So besides that I am depression, anxiety and panic attacks from the heat and humidity! No doctor has been able to

they all say it's all in my mind. If I can get myself to go to Canada or Germany, I'm sure I will find a cure to control the

Wish someone would go with me, but all the ladies seem scared or cautious, specially when I offer to pay for the trip😔so sad. Since you have my email maybe we could chat in private?

Hi Salwa15551. Sorry to hear about your struggles as it is like a mirror image. Yes my Work Accident became over the year caused many problems. I was on oxy but it does not stay in your body for long periods. I found myself totally disabled in the morning in so much pain that I could not move. I am booked into having Botox Injections Fri 3rd Aug. Will let every one know how I get on. Salwa have you tried Acupuncture. Some get great results. Also Germany has a big Natural Therapy push. I have German Friends & over the years I was told tske Chamomile Tea for any problem from Wisdom Teeth, Tonsills, any swelling as well as any problems with Animals. So I wonder if they have a cure.

If Botox does not work I will try Acupuncture as I am desperate to go have a life as this has been so debilitating for me. I want to travel but camt with this. Great talking to you Dana

I have been taking the CBD OIL from CBD WALES its amazing stuff. They have now brought out a moisturizer cream, lip balm & soap. I've not tried the other things yet but i have every intention on doing so. The reviews have been absolutely amazing, it's like a gift from heaven. Just a warning don't bother with Holland and Barrett it is useless, I wasted £40 on it from their and it done nothing. CBD WALES is online look it up to see the reviews and how remarkable the cream is doing for people's skin. XXX

      Hi lindylooloopops,

Not helped me as of yet with the sweating but pain wise amazing. My doctor has just put me on Clonidine to help with my over heating as I call it because that's what it feels like to me, I just can't cope with it anymore.

I've been taking them 9 days now and the first couple of days I didn't head sweat as much as I normally do but that was very short lived. I've only got to get up out of the chair and by the time I am in the kitchen I can just feel coming out of my pores I am just so fed up. As I am writing this now i am soaking but he said to ring him up in a week if their is no change so I am first thing. Will let u know how i am getting on. XXX

I just started w the CBD oil, sublingual, and for the past 2 days, NO MELTING! I call it melting, that’s what I look like I am doing. I purchased the 30mg dosage. Diamond CBD. Crossing my fingers that it continues. I must say, a couple of times, it felt like it was going to happen, then went away without breaking into a waterfall on my face!

I had been on clonidine, very low dose, ( usually used for blood pressure issues) for like 5-6 yrs. it helped off and on, but still had episodes out of no where and increasing doses did not work. I quit taking them.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the CBD oil continues. It’s totally natural n helps w depression, aches n pains, AND HOPEFULLY, these melting episodes!!!

350 mg. Diamond CBD. 1/2 dropper full under tongue. Try not to swallow for 30-60seconds after you put under tongue so it will absorb faster. 1 time a day so far, in morning before I get in shower.

I wonder if it helps to stop taking OXYCODONE 30mg, i am trying to take 2-1/2 instead of 3 pills. I went down to 3 instead of 5 pills a day. Let's see if I can go to 2 and 1 month later maybe 1. This is the biggest wish I have. I started klonopin for anxiety, wish may slow down my sweating. If u have any ideas, please let me know. I'm so happy to have found this site. Thanks to all. One hand lifting the other 🙋🏻???🤗

Aww, I really appreciate your help. I want to get off OXYCODONE 30mg by all means! It's ruining my life

I'm 68 and don't have time to be miserable. Oh, I just received my med. Cannbis i.d. but I got pure THC, which is not helping me to get off the oxy. Still have the craving. Is the oil better than smoking? Let me know!!🤗😍

    • Posted

There is no THC in the CBD oil so it would be the best bet for you after you wean off the oxy. It is great for anxiety, pain, SWEATS, (so far for me day 3 no Head melting!! ) CBD will not give you the HIGH effect of THC. Next of luck!

    • Posted

3 days and NO HEAD MELTING! So happy!!

I dont know why you take oxy, but I do know it's highly addictive. I just lost a neighbor due to her addiction to it and my sister has fought it also. Oxy should not make you sweat. Drug companies push the meds to line their pockets. They are not interested in people getting better, just dependent. I take zero drugs and the head sweating is very excessive whenever I move around.

It's definitely down to Fibro I 100% believe that plus other illnesses cause it to happen. I myself thought it was down to medication and it does play a part in the excessive sweating by making it worse because it's proven by saying it's one of the side effects of certain medication.

I have never been on Oxybutyninn but i have been on Clonidine the last 11 days & all though the first couple of days I never broke out in excessive sweating which I thought was a miracle after all these yrs of suffering, I have to say Chlonidine is a fail for me because after the 3 days it was back to the full blown head sweat, devastated is an understatement. I have to phone my doctor today to see what he is going to do next. I do take a lot of medication but truth be told I would try anything to sort this situation out because it's ruled my life for far to long I feel so trapped. I have tried and bought everything u can think of but it's all failed and I personally can not live this way forever and I know their are thousands more just like me who feel the same way, and hand on heart we don't enjoy having to pop all these meds nobody does but its all part of life and if their was none then i am sure alot of us wouldn't be here today....

I was in a car accident, flew out the window 80 feet, broke my back etc...so I was put on oxy. Been on it since 2012!!!!

I'd do anything to get off !!!

      Hi Salwa 15551,

This is what annoys me when people go on about why are u taking this that & the other. When we are in daily pain day in day out I don't care what anybody says if they where in our shoes they would try anything to lead a normal life, it really gets me down when people say such stupid remarks. Do they honestly think we are popping tablets for fun, if we didn't need them we wouldn't take them. I for one am supposed to take quite a few of my meds 4 times a day but i dont because I try my hardest to stick to 2 times a day and yes i get my days when I do have to take more, but not for fun its because we are in pain. I say good for u to those who decide not to go down the same route as us but what I say is thank God for my medication because if I didn't have it i know for a fact I would not be here today. But all I ask of u that don't go down the medical route don't judge those who do because we don't judge u, and I can assure u I will keep trying different meds for this excessive sweating until i find what right for me and if that turns out to be Oxybutyninn Keri 56 then i will take it so i have a better quality of life end off...

      Very well said Missy7581.

There is a big difference between taking these drugs for pain and taking the to get high.

People who take them for pain don't get high on them! Bodies do develop a physical dependence on them, making them hard to get off of, but without them, the choice is constant pain.

For some people, opioids are the only thing that works to get pain relief.
