Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

Posted , 480 users are following.

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

Thanks.

i have been experiencing something similar for months. slight trouble breathing and the inability to take a deep breath, i have to force myself to yawn in order to get a deep breath. after many tests we discovered that my issues were down to SILENT REFLUX! let me know if this helps

and are you taken anything for the reflux? if so, does it help and are your symptoms controlled ?

im taking prilosec, and yes the breathing problem is completely gone. if i stop taking prilosec for a few weeks it comes back ans peogressively gets worse, so ive been doing 2 weeks on 2 weeks off (its not great to take all the time). let me know if this helps. 2 weeks prilosec is about $15 and you can het it at any pharmacy

how did they know it was silent reflux? can you tell me if you felt bloated or a weird feeling in your stomach when having trouble breathing? please let me know.

no- no weird feeling. just a tightening in my chest where it felt like my lungs couldnt expand enough to take the deep breath.

i was on meds for allergies, and then i lost my voice badly so my specialist thought silent reflux, the meds for that have helped 99%. i also found out that my dad and 2 sisters have acid reflux so makes sense too

I have found some relief but have to say not sure why ... thinking we all may have different reasons for this but if it helps will tell you what I have discovered .. if my head is lower than body I find relief .. I have a back inverter where I discovered this but also have sat upside down in recliner .. this made me think that my blood is not circulating to brain so started experimenting on all kind of circulation supplements ..vit b1, ginger root ,ginkgo biloba ...I find relief after taking the b-1 but only for an hour or so.... then tried regular dose asperin ..1 in am and 1 in pm .. lots of improvement(you s/ck w/dr b4 trying) what I read says it doesn't thin blood just keeps it fr clotting ..after a couple weeks was too hard on stomach so had to quit .. in the mean time I started takin folic acid (read its brings oxygen to all cells)..long story short after quitting the asperin I have not lapsed back to the 24/7 gasping ..still not back to normal but closest I've been in a while ..hard to believe its the cheap folic acid supplement after I have spent $$$ on drs and supplements but also find in hard to believe would be the asperin as have been off for about 3 weeks ..I have also discovered that arm exercises help .. I love bball so I shoot hoops at least 30 min a day ..read that arms are the gateway to the airway ..have also discovered a hot bath or massage helps..I just talked to dr about the folic acid ... she is running b-12 and homocysteine level test??seems that's a folic acid deficiency test ..will be anxious to see results ..hoping this may help you or someone else 😃

Ufortunatley, I am dependent on KLONOPIN 1mg TID. TRIED EVERY TEST KNOWN AND IT ALL COMES BACK TO ANXIETY. I personally think its breathing incorrectly. breathing exercises daily helps. breath in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds and breath out for 8 seconds. do a set of 10 of them 3 times a day. I HAVE HAD THIS FOR 16 years. WE DONT BREATH CORRECTLY.

I think benzos is the only med that helps with this mysterious illness. How long have you been taking klonopin for? And will it help after years of consent use or the effectiveness will wear off ?

This illness is destroying my life, I'm going to request klonopin from my gp on my next visit soon, if he refuses like the last time he did I'm just gonna ask him to refer me to a psychiatrist.

its a dependent drug but it helps. I WOULD RATHER BREATH

ALSO, I am a weight lifter ex football and soccer player. 215-220 ish. I TAKE 1mg TID ( 3 times a day) THATS CONSIDERED LOW-dose but works. sometimes depending on stress, you may need to take them as needed.

Hey! I think we are all in the same page. How did it go with the sleep test? I wonder if we behave like that when we sleep as well. I think that's the main difference, because if we don't do that unconscious sleeping, so consciously is like an OCD behaviour. Let us know about the results of the sleeping test!

you are on the right track - download the DARE - break free from anxiety app - listen to the free things and if it resonates with you pay the $12 and do the one week health anxiety program. once you start thinking of your breathing as anxiety and not a medical condition you'll be amazed how quickly it can turn around - good luck

did multiple sleep studies. Besides mild apnea, this problem does not exist . its a bad breathing pattern that throws our ph off and in turn gives us shortness of breath. Im the opposite of hyperventilating though. I breath shallow and 12 bpm. I dont " FIT" the medical text book of tachycardia and hyperventilation. I calm when it comes on suddenly. it starts with yawning. oxygen starved. then increases to extreme. Its something that pulmonary doctors need to take seriously, because im not anxious whatsoever.

they may find some sleep apnea but thats not it. there are lots of people with our same symptoms but they dont connect the dots. SSRIs dont work. tried every anti-depressant in America. Im not depressed, Im short of breath. They say anxiety! No kidding genius! You would have anxiety to if you were oxygen starved. Its real! Im an ER nurse. The yawning is when i know its coming. My pulse Ox actually decreases at this point. I drop from 97% to 92% during this time. This is when i need to take klonopin to decrease the panic part. Yes, dependent on benzos now but able to breath better and the yawns have decreased.
