Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

Posted , 480 users are following.

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day.

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started.

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly.

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

Thanks.

for me its like i can sometimes can a sayisfying full breath in but it barely goes up into my chest like im inhaling through a straw. but the rest of my breaths dont give me the same satisfaction no matter how hard i try. (or dont try) like an unbalanced breathing cycle of a deep breath and then shallow ones. never painful just uncomfortable. does anyone else have this?

Hi! i got this issue last month when i moved to another country, was super excited to be here so no anxiety! but then one night i felt heavy while going to bed! i got scared and my heart beat fast and i started taking deep breaths, this is where i realised i couldnt take a deep breath till that satisfying end point! i slept somehow and when i woke up, the first thing i did was check if i could take a deep breath! and i couldnt! hence the distress started! i went for heart tests ecg, echo, chest xray, spirometry, all came fine! one thing that i have realised it, it started after i got conscious about it that night, and the more i try, the harder it gets! so most of the times, i am sad and depressed about it! i am 27 and wont be ashamed to say, i have cried fretfully like an

infant! this has made me anxious! i tried taking anti anxiety pills that my doc gave me, they work

sometimes but what i have noticed more is that when i am happy or really occupied with things that are interesting, i forget about it and even if i remember this, i yawn and i find it easier to yawn! i know as i write this,i am convincing you all that it is going to get better coz right now i am not stressed but when i am stressed which was just an hour ago, i wont even listen to myself! we need to remove stress and negative thoughts! i know this is debilitating and hard to get out of, try to do something that makes you happy n occupied n most importantly takes this thought of yawn away! for me sitting under chilling AC and doing something does work to take my stress away!

here is the issue, thoughts about yawning inability lead to anxiety and stress which stop us from yawning properly which in turn pushes us to thoughts and the looop continues! for me it is nothing but stress, trust me as i say this i know in sometime i might be worried about it again n think that will it ever go away! it will, it came suddenly it will go away suddenly! but we need to break the looop! i pray for the comfort of all of us!!!

too long already, but one more thing, it goes away when the mind is diverted, means we dont let anxiety overpower us! had it been something else, it would always linger around!

try relaxing in bone chilling AC, may be it will

    help

    i pray for us all!

i've been trying to tell everyone on here that's exactly how it works. everyone seems to think they are going to take a pill one day and within an hour not have this issue. mine was exactly the same - never had anxiety or been anxious about anything in my life but woke up in the middle of the night 2 years ago and got up to go to the bathroom and felt like i couldn't get a deep satisfying breath - totally stressed me out but i managed to go back to sleep but when i woke up the next morning the first thing i did was see if i could take that deep breath and i was checking from that moment on until 18 months later when i finally myself (after seeing every doctor known to man) worked out that i had a form of OCD of being caught in a constant loop of thinking about my breathing and getting anxious about it and only being able to relieve the feeling by doing the deep breath literally every 90 seconds and if i couldn't get the perfect deep breath feeling like i was going to suffocate. i now have it totally under control by putting acceptance and exposure practices into place. i'm not taking any medication and feel totally back to my normal self. the glue that holds it all together is the anxiety you physically feel about your breathing. once you can sit with that feeling without feeling anxious it all falls away and you take back the control. its really hard and takes months of work (and feeling like you're not getting anywhere) but you will get there. i really urge everyone to look into somatic OCD recovery and strategies you can use to recover (and you can) from it. i know how totally consuming this can be and it affects every aspect of your life and every minute of your day. its a terrible way to live but i honestly feel like everyone can recover if they fully understand what is actually going on.

    Hi guys,

i had little symptoms myself and it got me googling.

I read almost all your posts and i see a pattern here:

caffeine (heart rate = faster breathing)

    anxiety (same)

    GERD, reflux (usually diaphragm hernia)

    Mouth breathing (insufficient breathing)

pulled rib (makes you diaphragm in wrong state)

    oxygen/co2 ratio (fast breathing)

Anemia (too low oxygen, more breathing)

    etc..

its all same root cause... diaphragm.

If you have tight diaphragm or it is in "wrong position" or it has hernia it will cause lot of problems.

When your diaphragm is not helping your breathing it will become more shallow and faster..that causes this all.

There is several free diaphragm breathing exercises and massage tips in web. I always get my diaphragm dealt with when i visit my osteopath for other reasons.

I have been testing the GERD theory the last few days just becauseI was almost certain something was wrong with my lungs or heart... I know I have heartburn and indigestion problems and I normally take Pepcid because it is not good to continually take Prilosec or similar. But, the breathing issue was getting really bad the last couple of weeks so I went back to Prilosec and it has improved greatly. I cant say it has gone away completely, but MUCH better. Considering a complete change of diet. My mother in law is on a diet called Low FODMAP. It is kind of bland, but anything to make this breathing issue go away

Hello This is Pankaj from Hyderabad, India. Due to COVID19, India is lock-down till 14th April 2020. Also, there are some news from last few days, that lock-down may extend up to 02nd May 2020.I have been staying in the room since 21st March 2020 did not go out side. Only in the evening for few minutes, I will go down and walk and come back. Due to this coronavirus pandemic, I have working from my room from 10:00 AM to 07:00 PM & again 09:00 Pm to 11:00 PM.

Here, my question is last few days, I have been feeling body pain and laziness. Here, if someone can point right directions, what shall I do. Thanks!!

I have been having similar symptoms since 2004...have been to several different doctors about it, and never found a solution. It started suddenly one morning when I woke up, and never went away.I've just learned to live with it (uncomfortably lol). Sometimes I actually feel like I am short of breath...it's like when I take a deep breath, it doesn't FEEL like I'm taking a deep breath.

If you find out what is going on, please come back and let us know; good luck!

Hi, I read all the symptom of this yawning and mine is just at night while sleeping. It doesn't bother me but I was wondering what it might be. I am not going to worry about it, for now.

When i had this issue i made little research.

I found out theres three categories of causes:

Physiological - Your heart or lungs have disease or malfunction. This is stuff that doctors check when you go to see them. Cannot help you with this. Most people here have gone to doc and never found anything physiological reasons.

Mental- I cannot help you with this either. But as far as i know some stress about these symptoms and it might make it even bigger or longer chain of events.

Biomechanical- This is my alley. My symptoms were about diaphragm. Diaphragm makes most work in breathing and if it has some issues you yawn.

My issue was 20 day flu. I lied on bed on my sides (i sleep on my sides) so long that all my rib cage muscles got really stiff and kinda crushed whole rib cage. Then my diaphragm did not have room to expand and work properly. I felt my muscles with fingers and found many sore spots around serratus anterior muscles. Massaged, foam rolled, streched..and voila.. yawnin gone.

Theres tons of vids in youtube about diaphragm release, massage, trigger, breathing ..and so on.

So if you sleep on your sides, make sure your muscles and diaphragm works properly
