Excessive Yawning and Constant Need to Breathe Deep

For the past few days, I've been yawning a lot, much more than average (once every few minutes I feel the need). If I'm not yawning I'm breathing in as deep as I can to get similar "satisfaction". Often I cannot get the "satisfaction" from these and so the urge grows and grows, meaning it can get quite uncomfortable. When I do manage it, the urge is back a few seconds later. This is whether I'm tired or not, almost all day. 

I'm not particularly anxious about anything in particular, and get the same amount of sleep as before this started. 

This also happened at some point within the past year which continued for a month or two if I remember correctly. 

Does anyone have any idea what it is or how to make it a bit better?

    Hi! I am just wondering if anyone eve feels bloated when they are not able to take a deep breath? also, are there times where you can't even get a satisfied breath even with yawning? I don't know what it is but it is really stressing me.

      Yes I feel bloated as well sometimes. And yawning without satisfaction is also a thing. I have a fb page named after the title of this post where you may find some decent info. looking forward to chatting with you on the fb page

      Yes, it is a consistent inability to take a deep breath for me but a million times worse when I feel bloated.... also, the yawning is extremely frustrating because once I attempt a yawn that doesn't give me a full satisfying deep breath, my body keeps wanting to yawn again and again and it's exhausting. I do sometimes find a little relief when I put my arms up if I'm sitting or laying down - almost feels like it gives me more room to expand my rib cage and maybe get a little more breath

      have you ever thinked why you cannot have BIG satisfying yawn?

      Would there be some biomechanical blocker, like tight muscles why you diaphragm cannot work properly.

      Try to go through some vids about diaphragm release and check if it helps.

    I have been dealing with this for years!! I have the same symptoms except that in order to satisfy my breath( please don't laugh) i put my fingers in my ears and that somehow helps me take that satisfying breath. i have good days and bad. I'll keep yawning and sometimes i get that good breath in and if its too close to the previous yawn I wont. So I stumbled upon this group like 4 or 5 years ago and I realized that it was all anxiety. I'm not a very anxious person , i do not take any medications. It just happens to be that subconsiously i do stress and not realize how bad my anxiety is getting. Anyway i found that a breathing technique that was posted a long time a ago helped me tremendously. The only problem is that i can't seem to find that particular post. I had to go youtube and find guided meditation for shortness of breath due to anxiety. It seems to be helping but nothing like the one I find in this forum.

      Hi i sometimes randomly count out of nowhere in numbers by 3's i can be doing anything then suddenly i start counting 3,6,9,12,15 then start all over and do it multiple times. i was with a specialist and determined it is OCD with "anxiety" leta focus on the OCD first. i did some therapy treatments and went from counting out loud and flicking my toes to the tone of my numbers 3,6,9,12,15 while flicking my toes simotaneously to the tone of my counting and now i SOMETIMES count in my head randomly 3.6,9,12,15 and notice it then stop it takes some work but i think you can get help and stop putting your fingers in your ears. now for the anxiety part ive seen many doctors and specialists and im finally getting it through my thick skull that it is anxiety its all in my head and im slowly working on re-wirring my brain to not take that deep breath and breath normal, it takes alot of time but ive been able to go from taking deep breaths every 2-5 minutes to 10-15 minutes with the help of beuteyko breathing on youtube and taking amytriptylyne and i started with 10mg and im up to 20mg and i think thats a good dosage foe me its really hard but worth a shot. best of luck.

    the same thing is happening to me and im searching for answers as well. i keep needing to yawn for the sensation and if i cant get the sensation i take a deep breath to feel the sensation. & its happening every few seconds sometime if im not paying a attention i dont need yo yawn or take a deep breath! but the second i start paying attention to my breathing the urge to take deep breaths and yawning cones! ive been feeling like this for about 2-3 weeks. and now ive been doing this every day my chest and ribs kinda sore and tigh

      Let me guess..

      because lock down, you have been lying down in sofa or bed more (or bad home office working posture) and as you said your rib cage is even sore.

      Most likely your muscles between ribs are tight crushing you rib cage in smaller package blocking you diaphragm to work properly and causing it to forcefully expand (called yawning).

      Check youtube for rib cage/ diaphragm release/stretch to solve it quickly.

      It helped me. No more yawns.

      yes my back gets sore! from yawning every second and take deep breath over and over it get sore! for the last week almost my anxiety and the need to yawn and take deep breath have been really Minimum but today ive notice my anxiety got the best of me k started crying and my thoughts was literally everywhere! what helped me was writing my thoughts, feeling, goals, and just write in my journal but once i started feeling good and my anxiety wasnt getting the best of me i noticed which was today that my anxiety started to act up!
