Excruciating pain after Hydrocele surgery

Posted , 26 users are following.

I had a hydrocele surgery 7 days ago. At this time, I have excruciating pain when I stand up or walk. It's a charp burning pain as if someone was pinching my suture area. However, the pain is almost none existent when laying flat on my back. It's the only position to get relief and become comfortable. Furthermore, I can't lay forever. Pain medicine is not relieving this pain. Is this normal?

I'm been told that the pain will go away between 7 to 10 days post surgery, but I'm not seeing any pain improvement. I have the same pain I had on days 2 & 3.

I'm hoping this pain will go away soon. I'm not worried about swelling because I read it will go away with time. But this pain is horrible. It should be noted that I have a high tolerance for pain but can't help it with this.

Any suggestions???

Can anyone help with my Hydrocele post surgery pain? I had the surgery 12 days ago and I'm literally bedridden. If I stand up or try to walk, the pain in my scrotum and just into my abdominal area is excruciating!!

I can see many posts on here and I'm aware it's been years since the original post, but in desperation and frustration at our useless NHS over here in England, I long for some helpful information from you and this thread.

How long before the pain goes?

What pain relief did you use?

I appreciate any help you have.

    Thank you.

how big was your hydrocele in the first place? I currently have a small hydrocele roughly the size of an egg on my right side and I am currently debating whether to get the surgery or not

About the size of a big Apple. I originally had the surgery 2 years ago but it came back within 6 months, although not as big as the first time. Still very uncomfortable sitting down and playing sports. The surgery I had 12 days ago was more painful afterwards and the recovery is longer. I do have quite a high pain threshold, but the pain I'm getting from just standing is like someone literally standing on your testicle!

I should also add, I had a bilateral vasectomy at the same time so this will almost certainly add to the longer recovery time and possibly pain?

I just wish I knew how long the pain will last for, then at least I'd be prepared for it. I'm currently just laying in bed most of the day, with trips to the bathroom and fridge every now and then.

The pharmacy sent me some Tramadol today as I had asked for something strong from the doctor. I'll take these and see how my pain goes.

Thanks for the reply, I'm no doctor but from what I have seen online it appears pain after vasectomys pain is typically more common than pain from a hydrocelectomy. Hydrocelectomys definitely cause pain/discomfort but this should mostly subside after a few weeks

My surgeon claims less that 2 percent of people will have long term pain after a hydrocelectomy with the fast majority of people suffering temporary bruising and swelling for a few weeks/months. However with vasectomy the chance of pain afterwards is around 10%.

In my opininion the pain is probably being cauaed by the vasectomy, the pain should startbto decrease eventually over time if it halts and doesnt improve or gets worse i would contact your urologist.

i currently have a small hydrocele that I want treated but I think it may not be worth the risk due to it being quite small (egg size)

Egg size?? hopefully not an Ostrich egg!? I would just say if you can put up with it then leave it, but discomfort can be an awful thing to live with if you don't have to.

I've actually been to hospital twice in the last week. The first time I had 2 doctors give me an examination and a a few hours later a urologist saw me too. He ordered me an ultra sound scan the next day (That's lightning fast for the NHS in Britain). At the scan the guy said everything looks ok and wants to see me again in 4 weeks. However, it's the part on my left hand side where the testicular tubes go into my abdomen that is extremely swollen and painful.

The guy taking the scan said it was outside of his expertise and he would send the results to Urology. Watch this space I guess. meanwhile I still can't get out of bed without taking Tramadol and Ibuprofen, even then it's still so painful.

Day 13 here and it's still as painful as day 0.

Wish it was the size of an ostrich egg as it would then give me the motivation to get it removed hahaha. Probably will eventulaly get it removed as the constant readjusting at this age is annoying and makes me look weird.

Have any of your symptoms improved?
