Exercise and Emphysema

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi i do not know yet how good or bad mine is until i have the test in 2 weeks. but have read you can stall it or inprove it with exercise.

But have read loads of things and exercise can soemone tell me how much your meant to do and what kind. IE threadmill walking biking ?

I have only done 2 miles walking so far that was yesterday, but even doing that i thought about all the rubbish from cars going past i breath in.

PS only reason i have not done much is because i am still loseing weight and doctors don't why. But i do think it's this acid reflux and me giving up loads of foods.

2 miles walking daily your lungs are probably not bad.

Although you may want to check out what I said to pauline about for days ago on exercise and copd:

Hi Vee2 yes i seen your posts infact read them all and keep note and will ask about the Pulmonary Rehabilitation there is one 8 miles from me which is fine.

That's what i find strange i can walk 2 miles very easy up and down hill and could do lot's more if i wanted. but don't want to over do it because i am still loseing weight, but i am sure it's all the foods i have cut out don't eat much only 3 smallish meals a day and fruit.

Yes I can understand that if you are still losing weight, you need proper guidance on that.

I can't remember if you said you had a diagnosis for COPD or are still having tests, of course you won't get PR referral if you don yet have a diagnosis.

Your GP can prescribe fortisip or something similar if you are having difficulty maintaining weight.

      Best wishes V

Specialist at hospital you told me results from ct scan just said emphysematous changes and a few other problems. I had to call my doctor myself to see what to do next so got a lung function test in 2 weeks.

      What is a fortisip ?

Ask for hard copies of your results I would, so you can compare when you are retested in the future.

If you put " fortisip nhs " into google search engine you will find the information of fortisip and under what circumstances it is prescribed.

Well, it sounds like ur lung capacity isn't too great. Mine, at last testing, was 30%. I go again on October. Idk what it'll be by then. It doesn't help that I just cannot stop smoking. I know that's what caused my emphysema, and have taken full responsibility for my condition. I don't want pity or sympathy. All I ask for is understanding. I know it's my fault. I don't deny that.

I wonder, do I have to sign a DNR order in front of a notary and a doctor, or can I simply write it as a letter or a note?

Why do you think it's not to great ? i have had no test plus i can walk 2 miles very easy plus more if i wanted. had no shortness of breath or anything yet.
