existing pain issues prior to pmr diagnosis

i hear a lot of people talk about some chronic pain issues before pmr diagnosis, things like back problems, sciatica , herniated disk, shoulder problem, tendonitis, bursitis, some of these issues apparently presented symptons on and off for years, is is possible these conditions, not really have being treated, have led to what drs are now diagnosing as pmr, after body has fought with these conditions for so long, body wears down to point where boom,PMR diagnosed ?

I suffered with back problems, cronic fatigue, some depression, constant low grade fever but sluffed most of it off.
My Dr told me to take 3 mos off and during this time my symptoms progressively got worse to the point of excruciating pain.
For me it was slow onset PMR.

Hi Cheryl, It makes me wonder also : I found some old blood tests showing 4 years : In everyone my inflammation was high, yet I was told I had ostero arthritis, possible Fibro. No real tests done at the time.
I ask now, why? if my inflammation was high every time. I didn't have a set Dr at the time, I used to just go to a medical clinic and every which Dr was free I saw. Never again!!
I think my PMR was creeping up on me for a long time. In Australia they don't seem to know much about it ...
You may be right :

yes, i think that,s whats happen to a lot of us, dr,s just don,t seem to have the time or inclination to be as thorough as they should, either they become to complacent with you, if you,ve been a long time patient of theirs, or they have too many patients, to actually spend the time, and some seem to be reluctant to refer , i don,t know why that is, so we all have to be responsible,, and proactive with our health issues more now than ever, keep asking questions, and persist, i guess for answers, and myself,, i have a hard time accepting the answer " we don,t know what causes pmr",any best of luck for future good health to you dea13

I don't know about others, but I had absolutely no symptoms (other than backaches) before the onset of the Polymyalgia body aches and pains. I was fast-walking 3 or 4 days a week and doing sprints during the walks and was just always on the go. Then one day all of a sudden I felt like 100 years old and it got worse each day until I was diagnosed and started Prednisone.

I remember the day at work I had to call a co-worker over to take a pile of books out of my arms because I suddenly didn't seem able to move enough to lift them so I could set them down onto the top of the counter beside me. But I'd had other pain I now think must have been PMR or at least some sort of inflammation-related "niggles" for years before that. Took about a year from that incident before I was diagnosed.

health conditions (fibromyalgia\undiagnosed pmr?) was
triggered I believe by stressful events in my life from family
problems as well as the sudden death of my mother.
I also have osteoarthritis head to toe.

I agree too thinking back. Seems I have so many balls in the air I'm always stressed but the the fatigue causes more stress because you don't know how you're going to cope with all you need to do. Very sorry about your mother.

she passed,it was a very hard day .Your right about the fatigue.

Well my back pain has been with me for over 10 years. I injured it while I was working out in the gym. My PMR diagnosis came this year in September. And my thought was when I started the prednisone it would help my back too but it didn't. In fact my back has been in the worst condition it has ever been in. My rheumatologist says it's not connected to my PMR but my pain management doctor says it is and I think it is. But I don't believe my back pain started the PMR.

Well that's just crazy. Prednisone is good at treating inflammation . Your back hurts partially because of inflammation. So you take one plus one and you come up with 2. Now my pain management doctor agreed with me that the prednisone should have helped my back pain. But apparently the PMR is too much for my back.

May be crazy, but he was right. My back ached most of the time once I was on lower doses of Prednisone. Actually it has ached for so long, I can't remember if it ached on the higher doses or not but don't think so. Seems like I remember a break in the back pain for awhile...not long enough.
