Experience of THR by Mr Witt at UCLH
Posted , 10 users are following.
Dear All,
Having been denied my first choice of hospital and surgeon I am researching to find the best option for my needs.I have been told that Mr.Witt is in favour of the Anterior procedure which I prefer.
Please does anyone have experience of a hip replacement by Mr.Witt?
There are so many helpful posts and willingness to advise others, but very few mention where in the country (or indeed in the world) and by whom their thr was carried out.
To me,a devout coward, this is the reassurance I am seeking.I am interested in individual experience and details of hospital/surgeon and after care received.
Thank you for any help you can give and best wishes to all recovering from surgery.

Glad to know you are doing well. Two in one year must be something to deal with, but you seem upbeat,so that is good news.
Best wishes

Welcome to our wonderful hippies family ...
Good question though, however I don't know how to answer ....
I am in Holland and was told about a lot of different orthopedic surgeons and hospitals ...It is such a personal experience. .
I ended up in a regional hospital in the north of Holland .. my surgeaon's nam s is Dr Idema and considered a very experienced orthopedic
surgeon .... hospital is, as I mentioned before, regional. ..shortstaffed
Li ke everywhere but so much more Relaxed. .. ...
Dr Idema has good bedside manners... 😋Takes time to explain the
Procedurest whend when you are in operating table and goes over it post op ...visits you twice a day...
This was my first e😑😠experience with him and trusted him with
The 2nd one ....
Good luck honey, trust your intuition. ..
Warm hug
Renee
So sorry about those smileys ... this tablet is alien to me ....

Thank you for your reply to my question.
Pleased to know you have a surgeon you could trust and who looked after you well.
As you say trust my intuition,(I hope it does not fail me) but it is all we have so must try to rely on it.
Thanks again
Such a comfort to have this forum for encouragement.
All the best

it was supposed to be Peter Kay who did the op but I got a long phone call off a Japanese doctor to tell me Mr Kay no longer did hip resurfacing and did I still want the op to go ahead
I have an 8" scar on my ass which I never give a thought to.it was glued and never gave me any bother.
If I ever have to have another hip op i hope it's at Wrightington again.I even got a private room even though I was with the nhs.
The difference a new hip will make is incredible.
I know a bloke who I always thought was disabled and hobbled round as if one leg was a lot shorter.I saw him at a party after his op and I could not believe it was him.
He'd never moaned about his hip like I did so I'd no idea???

Many thanks for your reply. You sound really positive which is encouraging. All positive messages are a great help.
I wish a few would crop up from my region of the country,Dunstable/Luton in Bedfordshire. There is a noticeable lack of response from my area.
Anyway it is reassuring to hear from THR patients with a good result.
Best Wishes

welcome to hippie world,
I had both my posterier thr's done by Mr Jason Roberts at the golden Jubillee hosp in Glasgow, I have both scars in the middle of my hips about 4 in long running down with the line of my body, I am 7 weeks post opp. on my 2nd and the first was back in nov.last year, I feel great and the hospital was built as private but the NHS bought it and turned it into the centre of excellence for orthopaedics and coronary care in Scotland, all private rooms, wifi, ensuite wet room, good food, staff great, hope this helps , oh and I had a pinal with sleepy meds, did'nt feel a thing.
good luck,

I was talking to the anaesthetists assistant about cycling and dancing to northern soul, then she gave me some headphones to listen to music and finally she asked me if I wanted some sedatives and off I went.
Your hospital sounds like a heath farm, lynn

I had both of mine done by a Mr James Holland at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. He is wonderful and has an excellent reputation and is very experienced. He also does private work at the Newcastle Nuffield and is a very popular choice for private patients.
I hope you find someone suitable. It's a bit of a minefield.

Many thanks for your reply to my post. Interesting that you were able to use choose&book.
My GP practice do not allow this and use a referral service which refused my choice. It seems that there is great variation in quality of service available across the country. To use a cliche there appears to be a postcode lottery as regards both the type of hospital, experience of surgeon and quality of after care.
I am pleased that you had such a good experience.
Best wishes
