Extreme dizziness

I have been suffering with dizziness for some months now but up until 3 weeks ago it was only when I moved my head from side to side. In the last three weeks, I have had constant dizziness 24 hours a day and I really dont feel with it. My doctor though it was bppv and asked me to the the modified epley manoevre at night which I did for over a week with no improvement. Now over the past weeks, I have become worse. The doctor has given me stemeil which didnt work and now betahistine dihydrochloride which make me feel sick all the time. I have now been referred to Ear Nose and Throat at the hospital with several weeks waiting list. In the meantime, I am not fit to drive or do very much. I feel dreadful and do not feel at all switched on to do anything?
Anyone any ideas Please?

Your symptoms sound like all the women in the menopausal section of this website as it can start in your 40's and it's all hormonal related.

Therapy. They will send you to it sooner or later anyways. Get your primary to send you there while waiting to go to ENT. If they haven't already , may order a MRI to. ENT will probably order a VNG test. Determine what's going on with vestibular system. PT will do tests as well. Those people know alot. They can give you alot of answers as well.

Thank you for your reply. When you say "therapy" what do you mean please?
I have just had another chat with my gp and I have got to see him this
afternoon. Is there anything I need to mention to him do you think?
Thanks

Therapy = vestibular rehab . They can easily determine what's wrong most times. Which ear is effected if not both. What excercises to do to help retrain your brain to deal with it. Can also find them on youtube. But if you don't do them right or push yourself to much, they can make you worse. Giving docs and therapist as much detail as possible helps. Tell them everything you remember about the symptoms you have. Vertigo/dizziness is a symptom not a disease. Theres so many things can cause it. The more info you provide, the better they can diagnose you. Not sure what kind of doc you have but some you have to make them.listen to you. Don't let them just make a quick evaluation. I heard to many people say there doc blew them off saying they had stress. Tell him the stress and anxiety came AFTER you got dizzy.

Lol the specialist told me the same thing so I did - I made a list and then was told I was too preoccupied with my illness which makes you feel worse because I wrote a list! And it wasn't even that long. 😆 good luck

See an Otologist or a Neurotoloist. Don't waste your time with any other type of doctor. This is their specialty

Neuro wouldn't see me without a referal from a ENT or my primary. Tryed to call them. They wanted all the tests like VNG done first. Had to go to a ENT to get the orders for that. They are so booked up , they don't have time to waste seeing people before basic tests are done first. I tryed cause I knew my primary and ENT would do nothing. Tryed to save the money they would charge. Been threw this a few times in the past 10 years. They refused to let me cut corners. I was not happy. Wasted almost 2 months to finally get a referal to neuro. Now I have to wait 3 more weeks for that appointment.

That's stinks. Are you in the USA or U.K.?

US . Sure does stink. Waste of time and money. Past 10 years I have had the tests repeated. So it's not a new thing. They know what's up and have test results. But it is worse. Only 30 percent response on left side. 10 years ago it was so close my therapist had to figure out what side was messed up. Now it's easy to tell.
