Eyesight Issues after Cataract Surgery
Posted , 39 users are following.
I had cataract surgery 1 week ago and the lens fitted corrected my astigmatism. On my follow up appointment 2 days post surgery I was told everything was as expected and my eye was now -1 instead of -5 prior to the surgery.
I explained to the consultant that whilst everything was clearer (well it should be once the cataract was removed) I am getting blurred vision and it feels like I can see the edge of the new lens. He totally dismissed this and did not even provide an explanation. I believe the new lens is not fitted correctly but cannot prove otherwise.
Has anyone else had (or heard of anything similar) to this?
Thanks

Which lens did you have? It may make a difference.
In general, multifocal lenses are more likely to show halo and glare than monofocal lenses. The Crystalens and Tetraflex are monofocal (single focus) but have some accommodation so the focus can change by your eye muscle moving as it does with your natural lens at about age 50.
This article shows the halo and bench vision at different distances-

As you can see, there are trade-offs, and YMMV.

I had both eyes done, cataract replacement with Toric Lenses.
In My left eye there is a permanent shimmer on the edge, but more worrying
is a floater in the form of a grey patch which passes over the eye from left to right,
My surgeon said don't worry it's all settling in at the moment, but it's now been two months, and it's no better.
Has your problem resolved itself ?

I had my left eye cataract operation in November - no idea what type of lens - and afterwards noticed the dark strip at the extreme edge of my eye. I 'phoned the A & E Dept who said I was seeing the edge of the Lens but my brain would learn to ignore it in time. The consultant (not my usual one) advised against my having the right eye cataract done as he didn't think I would see much benefit. Literature on the subject says if you get this problem in one eye it is likely to occur in the other eye so perhaps this was his reasoning. I lost central vision in my right eye years ago through earlier AMD so this could also have had a bearing on his advice.
So 4 months later I still have the dysphotopsia and also have the small floating cloud that whizzes to and fro across my vision. My regular Consultant who I saw subsequently said to give the dysphotopsia 6 months to see if it will resolve and that the floater I am seeing was there before the operation but I couldn't see it because of the cataract. Not sure that is true! He is also still keen for me to have the cataract done on my other eye!
At the moment the AMD in my left eye appears to have dried up and the intervals between injections have been lengthened. With my new IOL I now have great vision and can drive again so I think I will be able to put up with these minor irritations for the time being.

i had cataract surgery in my right eye . i went to all the follow up visits and at the last one i asked when i would get my improved eyesight as it was still blurry the surgeon said "we didnt do the cataract surgery so you could see better" i said what did we do it for then. he said that it was so the other surgeon that did a membrane peel in the back of my eye. the only problem with that is the other surgeon asked me which surgery i preferred to have first. any one have any thoughts on this.

Wonder what happened over your eye problem. I thought I could see the edge of my eye but now I've figured itcand it's my kid and surround that overhangs the eye and makes it look like the edge of lens is not right.
I realise this is an old posting but now I'm wondering the outcome you had. Thanks Maude

Yes. I can relate. My cataract surgery was awful. It was very painful and the doctor refused to call my usual retinologist to come help. I didn't go to the follow up because I didn't trust him. Now I am seeing my lens and can even feel it sort of move,So I made an appointment to see him and he said there wasn't a problem. I know there is because I can see it, and when I told hiim this he got angry. Now I am looking g to find a new retinologist because I know i can't trust this team.

I just wanted to something I found out. I think what I'm seeing and much like you describe, the skin which is more droopy now and I read this due to the drops stop the situation should improve. I think my problem of seeing the edge is improving so I hope for you to.
I think anyone wanting a different surgeon should stick to your guns. I changed knee op surgeon because he was too smart in his own mind. His attitude dreadfully pompous.
Anyway hope the eye improves after drops finish
which relax the muscles and it said when the drops stop the

I had my right eye cataract surgery done one month ago (10/24/2017) with a Tecnis toric monofocal IOL.
I recall the day of surgery while my eye was super dilated, I could see strange jagged circles/rings inside the house around bright light sources like blue LEDs and a digital clock display. But they went away by the next day when my eye's dilation pupil size had reduced.
However even now after one month, when its dark outside including while driving, I see a half jagged circle above bright light sources when my right eye's pupil is naturally dilated to its maximum in a dark environment. If I reduce the pupil size just slightly by looking for a second at a flashlight or the car's overhead cabin light, the half circle/ring disappears until the pupil gets a bit larger again.
I suspect this is probably light scatter thru the incision scar on the cornea that is still healing and can only be seen when the pupil gets large enough? Anyone else experience something similar for the first month or more after cataract surgery? Does it eventually usually disappear as the cornea continues to heal for months?

Well what I see is kinda of a half crescent above a light source that is in my central vision, not a light from the side or edges of my vision. It appears as a thin half circle arc above the light with a gap and perhaps some faint "spokes" going from the light source to the arc. The thin arc line is jagged however not smooth. I only see this at night outside when its dark enough that my pupil size is at its maximum, since just reducing the pupil size slightly makes the half circles disappear completely. I hope this reduces or goes away eventually with more healing time in the coming months.
