fatigue + weak achey legs ! Any advice appreciated

Hi guys,

Sorry in advance if this isn't the right place to post - new here!

Basically I've been suffering from fatigue and aching muscles for a few years now, I'm only a 23yr old man but feel about 3 times that. I'll wake up and feel like I haven't slept, with legs usually aching, if I do anything physically too demanding the exshuation I feel is to the point where I can't stand up properly until I rest. It's been suggested that because I wasn't active atall for years that could of caused issues? I'm trying very hard to jog and walk as much as possible to strengthen but it's very difficult. If it's just weak muscles then what is causing me to feel like I could sleep at any given moment?

I've alway wanted to be a photographer but I've had to change my vocation to behind the scenes so I can be sat down all day. I just want to feel like a normal person again, doctors help to and extent but I don't feel like I'm being taken seriously.

I've done sleep studies and all my results suggest I sleep normally.

Just wondering if anyone had any advice or similar issues and could suggest what to look into next ?

Thanks so much for reading and your time.

Gary

Keep looking for help, something is wrong. Try taking a good B complex, b-12 and d3 vitamins.

Take walks instead of running, check on line for energy foods. Eat fresh fruit and green veggies along with good protein, eat all organic if you can and please let me know how you feel in 2 weeks.

    Best to you

Thank you. My diet isn't amazing so I will improve and take your advice on walking. I have had low vit D in the past but had no idea it could affect health so much. so I've bought some vits now, but I do have a lot of soya.

Can you get your vitamin D level tested? Your symptoms could be vit D deficiency, they can be quite nasty. Also your B12 and iron could be low.

I've had low iron and vit d in the past but never really felt a difference from taking the supplements. Can these really have such a negative impact on health?

Vit D deficiency can cause excruciating pain. If you are deficient you probably need a larger dose for a few weeks than you can get over the counter though. It takes a minimum of three months to get back to normal.

Have you had any blood tests to ck for vitamin deficiencies or rule out other conditions.

I was low on B1 had similar symptoms and D-3.

How did you feel when you was low on these? Similar to me? I've had low iron and vit d before but wasn't sure if that even connected or not

I'd second Ptolemy with advice to get your vit D levels checked. I had similar symptoms eventually leading to complete collapse. Deficiency leads to demineralisation of bones causing deep, aching pain, and muscle wastage and weakness, especially in the thighs and glutes. Sound familiar? Get checked. It's a simple blood test. Best of luck.

Thank you. I have no idea. I've had low vit d before but my doctor never warned me of such things. I'll try supplements again. It does sound like how I feel and it's getting harder to live with.

If you are actually deficient, it will take a dose of ~50,000IU per week for a minimum of 6 weeks (and likely many more) to raise your blood levels. An over the counter dose is just not going to cut it if D is the problem; you'll take it for a while, find little improvement and still be looking for an answer. It took a year to reverse my osteomalacia (rickets), so get the blood work done and find out if this could be a factor because recovery can take some time.

    Hi Gary,

Ask for blood tests as suggested by the others and try and think back to whether or not there was a trigger to all this? I have cfs/me (chronic fatigue syndrome/ myalgic encephalopathy ) and the unrefreshing sleep is a massive part of that along with aching muscles and what is called post exertional malaise- feeling bad after exercise. Do you also have memory issues and or brain fog? If it is cfs/me, all other things need to be ruled out first such as deficiencies and diseases. If it is, then ask to be referred to the nearest cfs/me clinic.

    Hope that helps

    Best wishes

Yes! That sums it up perfectly. I feel a consistent foggy mind which I feel clouds my judgment and conversation skills. What do you use to treat this ? I'm trying to look into excersizes that might help but I'm basically on here because I haven't had much support from doctors.

My blood previously has shown a low vit d... But I wasn't even sure if this even had a connection. I'll try vits again but apparently it take months to even know a difference?

      Hi Gary,

With cfs/me it's a case of pacing and resting to get better. I Take a multi b vitamin and sometimes iron and vitamin c. Sometimes vit d and calcium. Rest is the important thing. Have a look on me action to see if your symptoms correspond? Do check your vitamin levels though as as vit d deficiency does cause the fatigue and often pain.

    Thyroid?..

Find out about this....get your levels checked and compare....

Thyroid problems, diabetes, anaemia and as Beverly has said...ME...all could be the reason. Has your doctor done any blood tests?    Are you overweight?

thank you. I've suggested things like this but bloods never show anything of interest. It did a while back show low vit d but my doctor didn't really stress on it ? I'm about adverage weight with just abit of flab haha it's why I'm trying to run but I may swap with for walks until I can gain more energy
