Hi Gloria
Unfortunately what you are describing - continuing pain including back, disrupted bowel movements, depression and frequent peeing, are typical of an attack and recovery from Diverticulitis. The antibiotics, all of them, have side effects which can be very strong, and do disrupt your bowels. I too pee'd a lot, particularly at night, and suspect it is pressure on the bladder from the internal inflammation. It does take a very long time to get over an attack - hopefully 4 - 6 weeks, but sometimes months. A recent report from one poster stated they were finally feeling much better but it's taken 6 months. My last attack it was almost a year. This is not what you want to hear, but the positive thing is we did feel better, it just needed patience. You can help yourself by drinking plenty of water and start on probiotics (after finishing the medication) to help replace and build up the gut flora the medications have killed off. I also took pure Aloe Vera juice - 1 teaspoon morning and night. It's revolting but it's a natural healer. You should aim to eat soluble fibre (not insoluble so much, as that irritates your insides, and you already have a bleeding issue). Also avoid Aspirin and NSAIDs for the same reason. Paracetemol (Tylenol) is the recommended pain killer, as long as it doesn't clash with anything else you are taking. I use heat pads and massage for my tummy and back respectively. I hope this helps.

Hello Gloria
I'm so sorry to hear of the tough time you are going through at present. As always, such a measured response from Felinia.
I'm not on antibiotics, and have no pain at all, but I too am sitting here wanting to cry, as my GP referred me for tests this morning to rule out anything other than DD as the last 6 weeks have been very difficult due to bowel pattern changes.
When I am out and about I often look at other people and wonder what things they may be coping with that I do not know about. It can all be so hard to deal with can't it?
Hoping things settle for you soon. You are not alone in feeling down and depressed, others on this site do understand.
Best wishes
xx

I have found drinking warm chicken bone broth is very healing when I was recovering from an attack. In fact, I always have it on hand and start drinking it like crazy anytime I start to feel a twinge or get some loose bowels. Roasted or boiled beets are also good, and I too drink aloe vera juice. There are some brands that are actually pretty good. Be patient, and tell yourself that you will get through this!

Gloria so sorry you are having a hard time, this sounds like CDiff, from antibiotics, have you been checked? What tests have you had done, cat scans, blood work, stool tests? Colonoscopy? I've been still recovering from my first attack for 8 months now, it's very hard and causes anxiety, and depression. I also had major back and abdominal pain but that's due to inflammation and the diet, plus antibiotics tear up your gut flora. And that takes time to heal. I too have arthritis in knees and back so this inflammation effects that issue. But pls know things will get better in time. Breath, meditation, heating pad, tylenol and make sure you get all tests done to eliminate any other issues. Make Dr do them for your peace of mind. I pray you get some relief soon. I finally took Imodium for the diarrhea.

Hi Gloria, I'm new to the forum and in the exact same boat as you. Suffering for nearly 4 months with diverticulitis. The Dr's didn't take it serous for the first couple of months saying it was trapped wind, until I pushed them to see a specialist, CT scan & colonscopy that showed all ok apart from an abscess and diverculitus. Sent home with no help and some antibiotics that I have now been on for 5 weeks. I also suffer the back ache and hip pain that can run down my leg to my foot (similar to sciatica). I can only sleep for about 2hrs at a time because of the discomfort, lost so much weight and I'm soooo fed up with it I could cry

I'm wondering IF I'm actually starting to feel better as the pains are hardly there but I feel quite low, kinda like run down and wonder if this is normal? I tried CBD+ oil and you're right, anything is worth a try!! How you feeling at the moment, Gloria? It's a dreadful illness and the support and guidance from the professionals is just as bad!!

Hi Mandy, sorry to hear you are struggling so hard with this aweful dd. I was diagnosed in Feb, been a tough road. Had abscess also. Was on antibiotics for over a month, developed anxiety and panic attacks due to it all plus lost 50 lbs. I have had many Cat Scans, stool tests, blood work, Endoscopy and colonoscopy, and a breath test, final diagnosis is Severe Diverticulosis (3 spots) in sigmoid. IBS/SIBO. I now do Physical Therapy to help with building my core strength and muscle mass, cuz I lost a lot of weight so fast. I also go to Chiropractor/massage. And see a dietitian. The diet is so important and a hard part of having this DD. I personally can’t handle high fiber, and do a lot of supplements. A good probiotics daily, digestive enzymes, IBguard, Miralax, vitamins B12 and D3, plus a multivitamin. And Xanax for anxiety. Can’t do dairy anymore, or eggs. I drink teas a lot. Apple cider vinegar with warm water and lemon daily and pineapple or cranberry juice. Some people do pure Aloe Vera Juice also. My diet is Low FodMat for IBS and I mix in the DD diet. I still have pain in lower left abdomen but PT says it’s due to the pain in lower back, leg pain like you feel, it radiates to front abdomen muscles. Due to the inflammation. Takes a long time to heal, but I am getting better just takes time good diet and the antibiotics tear up your gut flora that takes time also to get good again. So things will get better, have faith, breath, and be patient.
Prayers are with you
I am also going to try CBD oil, let me know if it helps.
