Feel like I'm relapsing on Naltrexone

Hi All,
Been doing really well for the last 5 months on Nal, a slow but progressive cutting down of the alcohol.
However the last 3 weeks it has been going up again :-( not sure why.
Naltrexone has killed my urges and ability to drink wine, I actually dislike the taste and struggle to drink it, however I have now switched to vodka to avoid this issue -.-
I find Naltrexone doesn't work as well with spirits and I can still easily drink half a bottle of vodka in one night while on Nal. I really want to get this down. I'm also back up to drinking four nights a week instead of two.
Don't get me wrong this is still an improvement but after 6 months almost on Nal i was hoping to be doing better and be more stable with drinking less nights.
I can still easily drink 10-15 units per night and suffer a blackout.
Do you think upping the amount of Naltrexone will help me? I'm struggling and feel like I'm going backwards

I just started on Naltrexone about a week ago. I have been completely abstinent for 2 weeks. This has been helpful as I also have been a wine/vodka person. I am really committed to 0 consumption. So you really don't feel that euphoric buzz anymore? I am afraid to even try.

Is there a private FB group devoted to the Sinclair Method? I just started taking 25 mg of Naltrexone and I think I am having an allergic reaction. My lips and front upper gum area are numb and tingly, major thirst, itchy tingly skin, excess urination (not dark) and itchy eyes. I feel sick. It has worked, however, as I have not wanted to drink at all. The thought of it makes me sick, actually. I am worried I may hurt myself due to withdrawal because I do not want to drink and I was drinking heavily, like 2-6 glasses of wine per night, depending on night, with occasional no alcohol per night. Should I lower the dose so I can taper and not feel ill from withdrawal? Thanks

It seems to depend on the individual, but as far as I recall, engaging in other endorphin-releasing activities in general should be delayed until the medication has largely worn off. That is the premise of "Selective Extinction" wherein one waits till about 48 hours after the last dose to participate in endorphin-releasing activities, as your opioid receptors will be upregulated at that time and you'll get an extra "blast" out of a good workout, sex, watching a really good comedy, eating spicy foods, etc.

Glad it works for you! You are very lucky. Doesn't work for me nor the 80%+ of real alcoholics. Only TSM works. Read the book: The Cure for Alcoholism ...it is a brain disease and can be cured like other illnesses. You'd never tell a breast cancer patient, so no meds for you, go to the gym and work out that cancer.

I also was EXTREMELY sick from the Nal at the normal dosage. Luckily, my psychiatrist understands how I process meds and lowered my dose to start to 12.5, and after a month I increased to 25 mg. I've been on this for over 2 months and it is totally working for me. I still feel a bit sick, but better than drinking too much. If I hadn't have had this excellent advice, I wouldn't be successful and here having this conversation. Please go to a specialist and ask about trying again. People here have good intentions but they are not doctors.
