I was given 5mg prednisilone tablets taking 8 tablets, 40mg per day for 5 days. I felt so good & full if energy, I could have scaled Snowdon no problem at least that's how it felt. However come the 5 days & I feel heavy like I'm wearing steel sheeting instead of clothes. I feel irritable & absolutely horrible. No energy & very tired & anxious. Bloody tablets are good for a few days but after you finish the course, wow, feel like a zombie!! ?

Hello all,
I just want to thank everyone for sharing their story and tips- it really helps as I go through this difficult time in my life. This thread has given me new hope!
My story:
I had nose surgery 5/10/18 to fix deviated septum and broken nose. Apparently the surgery was much worse than anticipated and I was prescribed Prednisone 60mg-10mg over course of 6 days for severe swelling. I'm anti pill person but I took it still under influence of anesthesia. I'm 33 male with no prior physical or mental health issues.
Right when I took it, I felt off, but I finished the full dose under instructions from my physician. I didn't sleep for 6 days. I was starting to lose my mind and had severe anxiety. After finishing the medicine on 5/17, my symptoms have changed. I no longer feel anxiety like I did while on the meds (thank God), but now I have dizziness, fuzzy brain, blurred vision, crazy acid reflux, I wake up every hour...I mean every hour consistently at night, random skin rash from heat, no appetite, fast heart rate, derealization.
With a wife, toddler and another baby on the way counting on me, I will beat this.
I appreciate everyone's encouragement and story. I will continue to provide my updates.

God bless you and your family. I hope you told your Doc. About the symptoms, sounds different from anything I've heard. Maybe cause you are the prime guinea pig? No , please don't take that wrong. These Doctors have to be held accountable for there decisions, My God, we trust them! !!

No offense taken I think you would find that most of these Dr's would not be caught dead taking these medicines...
My prescribing Dr, my surgeon, just wrote it off and said it can't be the medicine. Conversely, my primary care physician told me he sees this all the time with prednisone and most Dr's don't understand the risks, even on short term dosing.
I know a lot of people that have taken it and had no symptoms, but there's definitely a large population that are impacted severely...Just look at this forum...

After 3 days I stopped. I was so sick I thought I was dying. Disoriented, so weak I couldn’t hold my head up. Dizziness like I never had before. I am on day 4 being off it. Although it is only slightly better, I still fell miserably out of it. Only thing that helps is Benadryl tablets, 2 every 4 hours. This is a horrible drug and wish I would’ve never takin it and I’m terrified on how long I’m going to be like this. The bad part is reading so many different opinions on it, some say you won’t have withdrawals after you been on it for just a few days. Others say your in for weeks and months of this horrible withdrawal. You just don’t know. Scary drug.

Good call on stopping early! I think it will actually help your recovery. Hang in there...it'll get better. Your body just needs to recalibrate after the atomic bomb.
I saw my primary Dr a week ago and he was very upset that I was given this medicine and this dose. He says he sees people come in the ER all the time from adverse reactions. He said it would take somewhere between 2-3 weeks to feel better and functional. He thinks, regardless of half life, it stays in the body much longer and needs to be metabolized. Over the course of a week I felt much better and noticed improvements in the symptoms. I had new symptoms pop up but I figured it was just my body rebalancing and reacting. A neurologist told me if it impacted any of the brain function, it would take months to get back in balance.
Here's a few things that worked for me. Everyone is different and you need to consult your Dr.
-Get out and walk. I know it can be difficult but I think it's important.
-Micronutrients. Eat well. Like really well - ton of vegetables and protein, lower carbs.
-Keep stress low and don't go overboard on reading about prednisone (it doesn't help).
-Sleep at night as much as you can at night; try to stick to a strict bedtime. I don't recommend napping
-No medicine for the prednisone symptoms (sleep meds, acid reflux, rash, etc.)
-apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and probiotics for stomach issues. Prednisone ruins your gut and you need to build it back up. These also help with the acid reflux. Just do it preemptively.
Like I said, I feel my body slowly coming back to life. For example, I didn't sleep at all on the medicine. Once I got off, I could sleep for 1 hour at a time. Then I could do 2, etc. Now I'm where I can do a 5 hour stretch. So my body is just figuring out its 24 hour cycle again and when to release cortisol, etc.
If anyone is desperate, I recommend consulting a naturopathic Dr. I know a lot of people that have had good luck with this route. After a few months, If I'm not back to 100%, I will absolutely go this route.

No, No, You are ok. Not a lifetime of misery.Drink lots of water with half lemon or lime juice. I HATE THIS DRUG, I have Lupus, been taking it for 10 yrs. I am trying to find a natural healthy option. I heard about tumeric curcumin, it has the same inflammatory act. But not addictive. Hope you all can search it out with me. Presdnisone should be outlawed! !! Thanks y'all

Thank you for the reply, its good to know i am not alone on this and others are fighting it to. Had a somewhat better day this afternoon, but the morning was not good. This is the scariest thing I have ever experienced in my 62 years on earth. One day at a time. I hope everybody dealing with this gets better. I cant overstate this enough, but this is a very dangerous drug. My doctor told me nothing about its effects, tapering off, the risks, etc...NOTHING ! And that just makes me realize how much they dont care, and your just a number to them and just cause they have a name tag that say DR. on it, doesn't make them a know it all. I hate my doctor now and will never go back. I called her office twice and left a message, and didn't even get a return call back. Time to look elsewhere,

Keep fighting Karina - you are not alone! It sounds like you are doing a lot to rebalance your body. You never know, you may just end up healthier at the end of this ordeal! That's how I'm looking at it. It's a temporary stress to the body and it may take many many months, but we can rebuild and retrain. The body is amazing what it can endure.

As i previously mentioned in comments earlier.. we all need to look at your prescription bottle and look where it says "manufacture" if it says "Roxane" file a complaint to the fda .. im sure they are aware of them . Presdisone is now manufactured under them i believe and when my lawyer gets this class action lawsuit on the way and your part of the list documente youll get a pieace of the pie to. Im tired of pharmaceutical companies doing this to people who have thier trust in them

Every forms of corticosteroids is not safe for everyone. I have read about the corticosteroids nasal sprays (Flonase) and what it did to people, it was really scary how even such a low dose can cause much side effects. I believe now there are millions of people suffer from depression and anxiety from this drug and don't even know it's the side effects of steroids which can last for weeks, months or years. This drug is worse than any drugs in the market, it changes who you are to a person you really hate. I'm so mad why they keep prescribing this drug for people like a candy while the side effects are ranged from fatigue to depression or even suicidal even after stopping the medication. So the terms "RARE" or "Impossible" is what the doctor used in our condition. I don't think this is rare or a coincidence anymore. This medication do more harm than good to people. God bless us all.

Hi tk95740'. i have to agree. i am in 60% poss- recovery from prednisone -triamcinolone cream and 1 injection of triamcinolone 10 months ago at an er room for a rash induced from a product i bought from a store. i went through still going through depreshion - waking fog - steroid phsycosis adreanal fatigue and lost respect from family for they do not believe or understand it. many people i know going through madness from taking these drugs. i told a Doctor i was taking care of his house i took this medication and he understood for he said he took prednisone and drove him mad and his wife cathy also agree's very well. the withdrawl for me are still hanging around and makes me loose hope in Faith with God for it feels like i am in hell. but there is some light at the end and grave feelings are starting to fade away i hope for it now comes in waves.

I agree that this drug is insanely dangerous, yet most doctors hand it out like candy and when patients have a bad reaction they play dumb and treat them like they're crazy. I also think the research is flawed. For example they literally claim that the half-life of prednisone is 4 hours, meaning that within a day or two it should be completely out of your body. Yet as we can see here people continue to experience extreme residual effects for weeks to months after their last dose. There's clearly an inconsistency here.
