Feeling like I have something in my rectum... IBS?

Posted , 25 users are following.

I am 29 yo. For the past month I've felt like I have something in my rectum, like I haven't emptied it completely and I have a piece of something stuck in there.

Sometimes I can even feel a sort of tickling there, it's very annoying and disturbing. I feel it more when I focus on it and this symptom started after I've been paying attention to my BMs because I thought I saw bits of red in it (which were proven to be food). But the feeling of fullness, tightness and foreign body inside persists. Some days it's better, but in the last 4 days it's almost constant.

I don't have diarrhea or constipation, just gas and minor bloating in my colon. I go around 2-3 times a day but the feeling persists even after a BM. And it's more noticeable when I stand up.

I also had this feeling last October after a bout of diarrhea and it lasted a couple of weeks and disappeared. And it started again this January after being stressed over my BMs.

Is this feeling common to IBS? Or maybe hemms? I'm a huge hypochondriac and worry about having a polyp or a cancer there.

My last colonoscopy was 4 1/2 years ago and nothing found.

Hello guys, Hope everyone is doing well. From last few days, i am experiencing the same issue. It feels like there is something in my rectum. I ca't say a ball, but it feels like there is some pressure built in the rectal area. Feels like gaseous ball kind of thing. I ave the similar symptoms as you guys do. I just wondering whats going on. Have anyone of you heard back from your doctors? What did you guys find out? I am really worried and want to find out from you guys what's going on. Reply from anyone of you would be a sight of relief for me.

    Please advise.

    Hi again,

So my situation got worse actually. Started to have more swelling and pain. First, gp found a small fissure and we thought that was it. The fissure healed but I continued to get worse. Anal exam showed no hemorrhoids or other fissures or abscesses. I am having a colonoscopy this week. Look up proctitis. It is either inflammation of the rectum or something worse that I don't even want to type.

I do not have UC so if it's proctitis it started from a food poisoning episode I had about a month before this all started...or it's idiopathic.

I am just praying that's all it is. I have been on bed rest because it is too painful to sit or get up and walk around....

Hi ej21467, how old are you? And if you could tell me your ethnicity as well, that would be appreciated. And are you male or female? These factors may have different meanings for the same situation.

Good luck for everything and i hope you will be better smile

      -Thanks

Curious. Are you a nurse or doctor? My gp says this type of thing does not discriminate by gender or ethnicity.

I agree symptoms can mean a variety of different things but if I said I was Asian would that mean something? Please explain.

Just reread your posts, I see you couldn't be a doctor. Sorry.

I wasted time searching online, going to forums, when I should have seen my doctor. Had I done that ages ago when my symptoms appeared, I would not be worse now.

The internet can needlessly scare people or make them dangerously complacent, believing they will be ok because someone online had the same symptoms and it was nothing.

      Lesson learned.

I suggest you go see yours as well.

      Dear ej21467,

Hope you are doing well. I meant no offense. I was just trying to relate myself to you. I’m South Asian actually and I’m 26. So, what did you find out? What did your doctor say what was that? I had an appointment today with my Gastroenterologist specialist and she said that it seems like Hemorrhoids. She Is recommending Sigmoidoscopy and just to confirm that. I have an appointment next week for that. I want to know what are you diagnosed with. I hope you have nothing major! I wish you good luck smile

It's been a long time since I had this symptom, but I wanted to let people know that there was nothing wrong with me physically and that sensation just went away on its own after I stopped paying a lot of attention and importance to it. It might have been (partly) psychological or something. I had to go through an unnecessary colonoscopy (quick one, that just looked at the lower colon) in order to get it out of my head, it was clear.

Yes. I was also very worried about that and I had to go through a sigmoidoscopy and doctor found out that I had Hemorrhoids. She doesn’t recommend me anything and she asked me to change my diet. It has been 3 months now and I have not hanged my diet yet and now I feel more uncomfortable. I have to change my diet ASAP. Changing diet solve the issues like that.
