Feeling like I'm drunk

Hi I'm new here and i've had vertigo for at least 9 months now and is starting to really get to me. I feel so dizzy and everything feels like it's moving around. Does anyone know what I can do to get rid of this vertigo.

Thanks in advance

I give birth three weeks ago ever since I've had severe dizziness I feel like I'm walking on a bouncy castle it's started with randomly I would feel I was spinning or turning to fast I then had a near passing out episode and ever since then I have been dizzy and can't stop been dizzy it's similar to the dizziness I get when I'm unwell but I've had antibiotics for suspected infection I'm now on iron tablets I really don't know how to cope with this because obviously I have a tiny baby to look after and my other children but I can barely function because I'm so dizzy all the time I have got low iron but doctor give on tablet a day for 30 days so it can't be that bad to give me these symtoms surely I feel like ill never be able to leave my house again

All the symptoms you describe raise the suspicion of a vestibular disorder.  The eyes blurring is probably due to nystagmus.  The long history (9 months) tends to argue against a vestibular neuritis, but the spinning with head movement could be due to benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, which can be easily diagnosed by a neurotologist, or by an ENT specialist with special interest in neurotology.  You should visit one of these two specialists.

      Hi

I am very grateful you have joined this site. When I went to an ent consultant he thought I had oscillopsia will this be confirmed by vng balance tests? Sorry to add this question here. Kind regards claire

Oscillopsia is evident on the clinical examination and does not need confirmation.  The VNG may have been asked for to determine the CAUSE of the oscillopsia.  Sometimes it can remain normal depending on the cause.

Hi thank you for your answer, do you know what is the best treatment ?

The treatment depends on the diagnosis.  You will probably receive a diagnosis after you do the examinations.  Let me know the results.

The vng I think was normal today. The tests I had was following a red light left and right and up and down. Plus cold and warm air in each ear and asked questions. At the end. The computer they had was playing up but the lady said she would analysis it later but nothing was jumping out.

      Brief history of myself

1st bout After 48 hour very rough crossing suffering very bad sickness I was dizzy ie felt i was still on the boat felt drunk lots of brain fog for 4 months. I did vestibular exercises and recovered. Tablets only for 2 weeks at beginning.had mri scan which was clear ent consultant said inner ear damage.

2nd bout of this started end of January after a many colds one after the other. Very similar symtoms feel of being on a boat more pronounced. Very bad disabling headaches . My poor balance made me walk oddly like I was walking on the moon. Feel like either I or my surroundings are bumping and bobbing around. Drunk feeling. At first i needed to hold onto someone for support for first 4 to 5 weeks and it felt like they were going to fast and my vision at the sides was wizzing by really really fast. Worse balance. Ent consult gave betahistine 32mg x3 a day. I have started to feel alot better after being on for month and a half but came off the tablets for a week prior to balance tests and now feel by balance has worsened..but not as bad as the start. I feel almost as though there is shifting happening in my head. Have you any ideas.

One other point may be insignificant. I have noticed my right eye pupil on both ocassions is ofter larger than left. It is reactive equally with a torch light but in normal day light even if the light is brighter on the right side. It will often but not always be larger. When I was fine no balance problems eye pupil equallity was normal. During the first bout vestibular exercises made that eye want to close. This time at the beginning I had a blister on that

Eye ball clear small blister. May not be relevant.

If you could offer any help advice..questions...answers...I would be forever grateful. Claire

By the way otherwise healthy apart from being on my period for over a year. Hormones tested as normal. Dr brought me off the pill recently to try to stop them ...i am not anemic. Being sent for scan as I have previously had a cyst on an ultra sound over a year ago. This I feel will be not relaxant all all but you never know holistic health?!

I have not be working. I work in a fast paced environment where I have to think clearly quickly and more around busy environment I'm a secondary school teacher. I am hoping to get back soon once I get settled on the tablets again and feel a bit more normal. But I know it will be dreadfully hard and at times think I might have to have a career change. It's an awful feeling...but there we are!!
