Feeling low. Struggling at the moment.

Have been having to treat daily with clob to try and prevent my urethra from fusing totally.  Now on top of that I have an infection and am constantly on the loo.  I do not normally have infections.  Only ever had one once when I was pregnant.  I know that things are going to flare if I am not careful.  Started antibiotics tonight so hopefully things will improve with those.  Due to go on holiday this weekend and we are camping so I hope things settle as I do not fancy running back and forward to the loo (antibiotics give me the runs sometimes as well).  Just weary with all the problems I have at the moment and fancied a winge.  Drinking plenty to try to flush my system.  I found a nurse at my practice who knew all about ls and we had a good chat about things.  She offered to check me whenever I wanted if I was worried about anything.  Instead of being happy with that I have left the surgery feeling very down.  Don't know why!  Just this horrible disease. blah blah blah...........I think I've winged enough.  Sorry everyone...

Life can be pretty bleak at times and I know from experience there are few people we can off load on- however this is one place you can- so dont apologise. Remember to  eat live yoghurt when on antibotics -it helps restore the natural flora of the gut and may stop the squits! Try and squeeze out the las - painful drops of wee - use your spray bottle at the same time - it may lessen the discomfort!

I had an email from my sister saying she and probably Ihave a MTHFR mutated gene that could be a reason for the autoimmune condition! This means that no matter what I eat or drink I can change little, perhaps a tad by eating more green leaves and reducing the wine refined carbs  and the sugars - but as my only REAL weakness is the red wine I say a reluctant fairwell to my comforter!

Pecker UP Chrisy when the antibiotic kicks in you will feel a lot better and the weather hopefully will be kind so that you can really enjoy your trip. I emphathise about leaving a listening ear making you fell  lower than a snakes belly - somehow  by hearing STUFF from informed others can pull our heads from the sand, and make us face our issues!

Take care and hope you have a lovely time Sue

      Hello,

Do.you find drinking alcohol exaserbates the LS pain and discomfort?

I drink vodka nightly, take a pain blocker and use valium as a muscle relaxer. These helpers allow me to sleep. Some days I wake up.pain free and others it is hell to manage the say without three baking soda baths.

      Am I drinking too much?

Elizabeth, It might be best if you decrease alcohol intake since you are also taking  a pain blocker and valium. The three together are not really good for you to take. I wish you could find relief. Please be careful.

Thank you Sue.  I am very interested in this mutated gene theory.  Once they find the cause they can hopefully get working on a cure.

Good advice about the yoghurt.  Off to get some now.  Thanks.

I am not sure it does exaserbate LS but it sure as hell isnt good in excess- Weight gain/ headache/ bad sleep patterns and liver probs - apart from dependency! Remember that alcohol will make the drugs you take much more potent and  thus make you vulnerable -to falling and worse! Having said that  if a wee dram helps why not? There are some people whose inflammatory conditions AREmade worse by alcohol - a food, fluid intake and mood diary, together with daily descriptions of your undercarriage will help you work out what helps you and  what makes things worse, Not forgetting you look regularly and taking the odd photo - with a camera NOT a phone that can be hacked. How are you feeling now? are your spraying withthe bicarb after each visit to the loo as the baths are helping you?

      Sue,

My problem is all perianal. I can never go a day without pain since I started the clobetisol. I clean my self each morning after "the daily"and then shower, and soak in the tub.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist next week and then with Dr. Goldstein's physicians assistant in October.

Not sure why the vulva etc.has not been effected yet......

      I am a mess.

Everything I try just makes the redness, inflammation, and pain worse.

I will just stop all creams, ointments, soaks for a few and see how it goes. I can barely sit down.

Sounds like you're in bad shape Elizabeth.  Did you try baking soda baths and rinses at all?  How about coconut oil?

Did you check your diet - sugar intake, alcohol?  Gluten? Dairy?

There are indeed times that nothing one does seems to make any difference. LS is full of surprizes. (not funny)

      How's your stress level?

Elizabeth - OUCH- is all I can say

Do you suffer from piles? (haemorrhoids) sometimes anal leakage  causes horrid soreness, where the faecal fluid carries on digesting the skin making it red and raw.

You MAY be allergic so one of the ingredients in the ointment or potions you're  using - read the label and check it out with you doctor - perhaps have an allergy test to determine your status

Sweat rash too can be a problem in that area, an anti fungal may help

Try keeping the skin surfaces apart- a soft cotton hanky folded - so each side has its own fold - it shouldnt rub then, however it may stick and you would need to use the shower to remove it if the area is raw.

Lucky you to have an appointment with THE man's assistant - do tell us how it goes

ps use a very hot iron to kill off any pos bugs on the hanky

Why does LS have to be so GD awful! I had a number of issues in the anus area and found that after I installed a bidet toilet seat (Japanese Toilet seat) it changed that issue significantly. Combined with Clobetasol the skin in that area went back to normal very quickly (4 months for me). My gyne never acknowledged that the toilet seat had an effect but I know it did. If you can afford it (they cost about 700 CAD at Home Depot) you will be amazed. I think you can also order it through Amazon.

What have they actually said about your urethra Chrisy I do hope the infection improves with the antibiotics especially before your camping trip, if it's not one thing it's another with this bloody disease, at least we have each other to moan to I would be lost without this sight I find it really helps me. Do keep drinking lots of water.

You take care Chrisy I really hope things improve soon Xx

Thanks Karen.  Yes I am drinking lots.   The urethra has stopped closing for now and the clob has done its job thank goodness.  The nurse has said I can get her to check for me whenever I am worried about anything.  If you read my reply to Barking above you can see that Hubby has been wonderful.  Can't wait to go in the morning and get away for a while.

Thanks for caring. I was coming along quite well and had a set back. I have new areas of burning and don't know if it's irritated from steroid and/ or olive oil hitting it and it's healthy skin or if it's new areas of LS needing steroid treatment. Finding it so time and thought consuming. Frustrated with adjustments of diet. Sometimes I feel really upset at the changes this has brought to my life. i know I could have much worse conditions.

Hello sandra..It is difficult to deal with something that doesn't seem to have any positive answers so we have to keep looking for other solutions.

I'd second the comment on severely cutting down on alcohol it is doing more harm than good.

I'v replied to a post by elizabeth recommending sea salt soaking.

I stressed it must be sea salt not table salt.

Perhaps you may care to read it and consider trying it as the magnesium absorbed from sea salt is also a calming relaxant along with it's other virtues. Try to be positive if you can.

Hi it is always a puzzle about WHY it happened  is happening or changing, this is why if  your condition isn't steady a mood and intake and what applications you are using, the amount, where, and the frequency diary is very helpful. Writing stuff down does several things - it does put  the situation in perspective, it allows you to monitor the situation and see the slow and hopefully sure improvements. It also gives evidence to your medics about how and what is happening, and the timescale.

I must bore every one rigid with my mantra about stress management. a little stress is good  prolonged stress IS BAD!!

Do try and find an enjoyable  mind absorbing occupation preferably with fun people about you so you can laugh a lot - this IS the best stress relief around apart from running...as if anyone in their sense WANTS to run after the menopause........!!

Hope  the patches are getting smaller and fewer Take care

Everything I've read here and everywhere talks about how sugar can cause flare ups.  I had not noticed with me because for one reason since being diagnosed I haven't been completely free but getting better.  For the last 4 days I've eaten sweets.  Well now more irritation, hurt, and stinging.  Sugar is BAD !  I changed Emul Oil brands..could that be it also?  You are right, I am  constantly trying to figure out what helps and what makes it worse.

Sugar, for sure. Funny how we have to keep proving it to ourselves. In my case if I'm upset, that's when I'll break my rule and eat a dessert. Then I've got the double-whammy of stress and sugar = flare-up.

I'm a bit afraid of any type of salt burning. Would a magnesium supplement work as well?
