Im having pain on the inner part where the big round bone is on the ankle.Im 3 weeks post op.

Will i get to a point where i won't feel pain from the hardware ? I'm guessing its where the screws are where i feel this dull aching pain.Enough to keep me awake sad

Had same experience with both ankles. Right almost 20 years ago. Left this past March.

The first surgeon just got irritated with me when I said the inside ankle hurt.

My current surgeon explained that there is a major nerve coming down the leg to foot in that area, so may be more sensitive. This not a problem for me now. Almost 5 months post surgery.

I am having trouble with numbness from between my great and second toe that goes over top of foot to outside of ankle. This is suppose to pass...Just can't remember this kind of numbness after right ankle break.

Sorry your in so much pain. I am three weeks 4 days since accident. I have a vascular disease in which surgery is a high risk. So I didn't have surgery. I don't have screws to compare all I know is that I have lots pain. Left tibia is a displaced fracture at ankle. Right spiral tibia fracture. I have burning pain like it's on fire.

I really hope you find some relief soon. Stay strong!

How is ur fracture being treated? What kind of pain management are u allowed?

Luckily my spiral fracture is in line so it would heal faster with surgery but it will heal just take longer with a full leg thigh high plaster cast. The left one is slightly displaced again screws would help but it can heal with knee high cast. So here's hoping.

I'm so sorry you're having so much pain sad

I had that stabbing burning pain before the surgery and it was horrible! After the bones were put in place with the plate and screws, the stabbing, burning pain stopped.I hope and pray your pain gets better! <3

Hardware removal seems to be based on doctors' attitudes. I'm staring 60 in the face and my doc offered to remove plate and screws if they become uncomfortable because close to surface.

Broke other ankle almost 20 years ago. That doc recommended removal of hardware because if I fell and rebroke ankle, could do significant damage. Never did because I was in hospital and off work so much that year. Now, I can rub my fingers across incision and feel the hardware under the skin. No discomfort what so ever. Just feels odd.

I have read other posting in the forum of people removing because of discomfort. That may ultimately drive ur decision.

Yup,If it does not bother me after fully healed,i will keep them in.If it does cause a lot of discomfort,i would look into removal.

You may have seen this posted already but I also saw yesterday that once everything is said and done.... we are up and walking (maybe even running!)- that often the ankle remains swelled in the evening- or after work.. or whenever- that ankle cold wraps are really great to have.  Also I saw something about using a leg brace after also- I saw one on amazon that has some padding on the ankles- wonder if this is recommended- something to think about down the road..... I think I will be happy that I wear scrubs and sneakers at work!  It is hard to imagine every wearing a shoe again.... though we will for sure.
