Feeling unsettled - surgery on Tuesday

Posted , 15 users are following.

Hi fellow hippies. My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, posterior left THR. I have been running around getting everything done and prepared as best I can. Then it hit me today that they will be taking part of my own body out sad and replacing it with a foreign hip. It just made me feel a little strange, a little sad and a little scared. Did any of you feel that way? I know that this is a wonderful thing to remove all of the pain but it still felt strange today. Love you all more than I can say. Thank you all for being here for each other - Cindy

I felt the same, it was part of me that they were going to take away, I didn't want bit's of metal stuck in me.  But you know what, you can't tell that you have bit's of metal in there, and the best part, no pain, no crunching, able to move better even now and that will only get better. I'm 4 weeks. It is so worth it.

Wouldn't it be nice if our prosthesis pipped at each other as we passed, because unless we were told we probably wouldn't know. There are lot's of people leading totally normal lives out there after THR and we will join them biggrin

You will be fine, no escaping the fact the first two weeks are hard, but then things fall into place. Take care.

Thank you Lynn. During my first two weeks I will read your post again. It will remind me that things get better and the challenging part does get better, and in not too long of a time. This will surely help me during those first weeks, knowing that there is and end in sight. And you, being 4 weeks ahead of me will hopefuly continue to remind me of the progress biggrin

Its like all of a sudden reality hits, might before my op watching paul ogrady batterse about a dog who had to be put down because he was to broken, i just sobbed i was broken sY the cant fix me, well they did and 4 months later i am living my life, not existing it.  Give your self up to fhe people who will help you get your life back, the recovery will be long and sometimes hard but believe in yourself, listen to what your body tells you, and ask here as this family will get you through it like they did me.

good luck hun, thinking of you.

I do feel that I am not alone and that I have a family of hippies who love me.Yes, I have truly been just existing, its been a tough 2 years in more ways than the hip. You help me see the light. Summer is coming.. I love summer as my street ends on a panoramic view of Long Island Sound, beautiful water, sky and sun! Happy thoughts razz

Cindy, just think of those hot summer evenings when you can walk not limp down your street to the view of Long Island, have a chilled glass of wine feeling fabulous, no pain, pills or problems, giving a toast to this big family that you will be able to help.

      good luck xxxxx

    Cindy,

I think that almost everyone feels like that, even the very strong guys here if we're truthful.  We're all here for you, and you'll be a 'proper hippy' very soon, free of that pre-operation pain.

thank you Graham. I was surely blessed the day I found this forum. I live in the United States and here I have the best support system from so far away. I live alone so it will be challenging. I have 2 grown daughters that don't live too far and friends that will come by but its a little scary. I am grateful to have you all here as I transition to a "proper hippie".

    Hi Cindy,

What a sweet way to look at this ....

I believe that there is a deep connection between our organs, cells, bones etc-

Sometimes I think that the emotional roller coaster we are on , post-op blues, is somehow mourning the loss of something dear to us ...

Yes, it hurts now and probably for a long time and it is going to be replaced..

why not give thanks to the old hip for supporting us our whole life -

When I was facing my 1st THR I was angry and felt so betrayed - how dare she fail me !!!   With the 2nd hip I did thank her and for some reason it felt so much better (no less pain thoughcry) -

Of course you are afraid and that is okay - no need to resist it -

We all have to go through this alone eventhough we have so much support here and around us ...

    Sending you light and love

    big warm hug

Hi Renee, It appears that you and I think very much the same on a spiritual level. The first thing I read this morning was an article about a womans lawsuit against a doctor who took out the wrong rib!!! And this was at Yale New Haven Hospital one of the most prominent hospitals in the U.S. And it is the hospital I am going to have my surgery at.. hmmmm I thought, I better go right over to my hippies forum for some positve energery wink. The first thing I saw was your post... there are no coincidences are there?  Your timing could not have been more perfect. Yes I do honor my body mind and spirit. I love your thought about thanking my old hip, and I will welcome my new hip. I am smiling now. Thank you

    Hi,

I've  been loitering on this forum getting lots of encouragement over the last few weeks as my husband prepared for his hip replacement. Well, he had the surgery on Friday morning, was able to walk with crutches the same afternoon and came home yesterday, just one day post op. We both know that this is only the start of the recovery process but it's a great start.

I'm  sure things will also go well for you. Wishing you all the best

Thanks for the welcome and good wishes. No,  he had a posterior approach. The hospital has an early mobilization program and they actually have people walk from the trolley to their bed with PT when they come from the recovery room after surgery. We are told they do a nerve block during surgery so it's not painful to walk on it straight away. Quite a confidence boost.
