Feeling Useless!

Posted , 6 users are following.

Approaching my 3 week post op tomorrow and having been active to the MAX before the op - on our farm - I am now climbing the walls with inactivity.  So far I feel well (apart from still bleeding).  Feel like I am nagging for chores indoors to be done.  I do light bits etc.. My hubby is flat out on farm and my son (18) works 7am-6pm off farm and comes home to cook! I am truly grateful but I feel completely useless.  I think my lot feel I should be "pulling" myself together by now..........  Sorry to moan xx

You moan as much as you want, it is really 'b' frustrating, I like lyn am about 14 months post op and still suffer a bit when lifting anything heavy, you really must take things easy at this point, I can't stress that enough, I know what farm life is like, it is tough but the men folk have got to manage for now, I also have sons, it doesn't hurt them to do a bit of cooking when they get home from work, you can't just pull yourself together you have had major surgery and it can take up to 2 years to be completely well again, I'm not saying that it WILL but it CAN so in the short term ie. now, you must just relax, if you do too much you could end up prolapsing which would mean more surgery and even more time off so please be careful.

Thank you - it means a lot to me to have you guys supporting my moaning!  Feeling isolated is a problem,  its probably akin to "having a baby" - after the first 2 weeks - the visitors stop!! x

I know it's hard but you really need to take it easy till about week 5 as you don't want to undo good work enjoy letting others take care of you I was glad my husband was good to me I couldn't manage without him then the quicker you get back to normal

As we were often told...there is only one chance at the best recovery...,the first few weeks and months..,take it easy....It drove me up the wall too, but am hoping to reap the benefits and not do myself mischief. It has been hard. The run up to getting the op and having to cope was bad enough/long enough, so would be silly to undo the work through impatience...mine or anyone elses's.  Thankfully family have been amazing.  Must be hard with very physical farm life, but you need to take this time Elaine.

I love my slow cooker, so once the meals (from friends) ran out, 'ole trusty' became our best friend...could sit and peel the veg...but got the family to seal off any meat and pop in/take out the cooker (too heavy), and was easy enough to direct finishing off..  Unfortunately I am having probs and poss facing more surgery-had lot of other work done besides LAVH BSO, (major, major adhesiology), and now have an obstruction or adhesions reforming causing probs, so still need family's help 5 months on. Swelly belly club member too lol...esp when overdone it.  Try to walk our little dog daily if I can now, to build up stamina. Just have to listen to your body in this time....and follow recommendations for best recovery possible. No other way round it. Xx

Thanks Karen, sorry you have to have more surgery! I have driven my car today - just a short journey to my daughters farm (plus its an auto) and back. All felt ok but must say the seat belt across tummy let me know it was there!  I feel so good at the moment - I think this is the problem - as there is no restriction on me.....  I have to stop and think!

Yes I drive an automatic too...a lot easier than hubby's shift stick...that was such hard work...  I wore a pillow, then a folded towel for months, under the seatbelt, to keep pressure off smile  It is so easy to overdo it.  Take care. X

I still carry one for longer journeys and when I know going to be in uncomfortable chairs for a while! Never mind bag lady, I am the 'pillow-lady' I think..lol
