I bought 2 pair of sketchers. They felt good at the store i got home wore them to work a couple of times now i didon't wear them anymore. My problem is my toes. I must have some hammer toes because if my toes dont fit right and they land just right on the floor it is painful and then i find myself walking on the sides of my feet. Grrr. I am a nurse and on my feet alot and i have so much trouble with shoes.

Have you seen the Alegria shoes? They aren't the prettiest thing ever, but they are comfortable, and have a wider toe box, which helps when my toes swell.

Two things that really help, besides finding the right shoes, are warm water soaks as soon as possible off shift, and light compression stockings.

(Compression stockings don't do anything for the pain or stiffness, but they do help the fatigue I get in my legs when I start walking weird due to the pain & stiffness.)

I was astonished at how much those compressions stockings helped me years ago when I was standing i my job all day. I never expected a pair of tights to bring such relief!

      About those Alegria shoes...

I checked them out online and they're kind of expensive....but I'd do anything for a really comfortable shoe.

I quite like the mary janes but why that upturned toe and those thick soles....? any connection to their comfort, do you happen to know?

Trouble for me is size. I am tall and have very large feet and can only rarely get the size I need.

They are expensive, and that was my hesitation with them.  I wore Dansko clogs for years and loved them, but they don't accommodate the swelling I'm having. One of my friends swears by the Alegria shoes and that is all she'll wear; she has several foot problems.

The way the sole is made, it forces you to stand up straight, and it "rocks" when you walk (yes, like a rocking chair rocks).  You can't roll your foot to the side in these shoes--they force you to walk correctly--

The footbed is made of material that will conform to your foot over time, and it has an arch support.

The up side is that once you're used to them, they are great.  I love the roomy toe box.  I love that they help my posture.  But it takes some time to get used to them.  You're not going to slide your foot in and immediately go "ahhhhh."  :0)

I would find a shop that sells them, try several styles on.  I would not order them online.  You really need to try them on to be sure the fit will work for you. I actually have the mary janes, but they fit differently from the other style.  I find that I hurt less all over (muscle fatige, not joint pain) when I wear them.

    hello all

i feel so sorry for you people still working with such pain. i had to bite the bullet and stop work in jan due to severe flare ups in hands and feet. i struggled for years and felt i just could not go on. i have been grieving my loss of independence but now im thinking that every cloud has a silver lining and now it is heaven getting up when i want and taking my time. i am still not much better but least i have the day to take things slowly. I also just brought som expensive sketchers but worth every penny as they are ones that just go over the top of my feet as i cant get get any shoes or trainers on. pay the money for comfort and i take my hat off to you all still working. I wish i was still well enough to do s. good luck!!!
