Fentanyl and pregnancy

Holy crap I'm freaking pregnant and on fentanyl. Obviously I have to stop wearing the patches asap. I'm probably one of the youngest people in here l who is on this medication, but I'm needing ideas to get off quick and with minimal withdrawals as I'm high risk as it is. I shouldn't have even been able to get pregnant!!!!! I'd also love ideas on safe ways manage my chronic pain that is about to triple in severity in a few months. Thank you all. I'm freaking out right now.

Thank you. I go to the ob tomorrow and pain mgmt on Wednesday. I'm freaking out like crazy right now. I don't know what I'm going to do or what damage has and could be done to my baby.

Hi Brandelyn you must be in shock. You need to see your pain Dr immediatly and an obstetric Dr. It wouldn't surprise me if your a first to get pregnant whilst on this drug. My heart goes out to you and your baby, for the tough time ahead and I hope you get all the support you need from medical staff and your family.

It wouldn't shock me either if I was the first. The only reason I was allowed to start this medication was because a specialist told my pain Dr I couldn't conceive without medical assistance. I just moved, so this is going to be my first time meeting with this Dr. I'm still in so much shock and terrified at what this medication has already done and will continue to do. Thank you for your support.

I just hope you get the support I'm due to get. I have my Dr and a support worker now, but having being discharged by Pain Mgmt in April and told I have to reduce Actiq but will always be on Fentanyl Patch, I'm now being refered back to pain managment and have to see a psychologist for support as well. No one has worked out my taper plan I've done that myself as no one seems to have any experience of detoxing from this drug.
I hope you get Psychological support as it is going to be a very worrying 9 months till you find out what the effects have been on your baby.
I know we all have our own opinions, but I firmly beleive this drug should only be used in pallative care for terminal patients.

Don't panic until you see what your doctors have to say. I don't want you to stress out and make things worse for the baby, ya know? So just breathe and try to remain calm until you see someone tomorrow. Do you know how far along you are? You may not be far enough along to have caused any harm. OB's are educated to deal with this stuff so I'd def follow their orders....praying!

That's the one thing I hate about being so young. It's not my fault I broke my back 6 years ago, or ended up with fibromyalgia and myofascial pain syndrome before the of 25. It was the military who let me ( let me rephrase that- made me) go around with a broken back for over 5 years with nothing. Finally ended up having emergency surgery in October of last year because of how bad the damage was. But that apparently doesn't matter, I'm just a druggie that got knocked up by her husband. That seriously made me want to scream.

Brandelyn my heart goes out to you as this should be the best time for you and your partner having a new life to look foreward too. Nobody should pre judge you or anyone else as we are all someones loved daughter or son. Those judging should remember it could be their son or daughter next requiring help for drug addiction.
I am saddened to hear you have been treated in this manner and shown no respect. Were they not concerned about what a pregnancy will do to your back it certainly will not help.
I hope your PM Dr is more helpfull. Personally I do not think they will have anyone pregnant before on Fentanyl. If they haven't I hope they are honest with you. At least my Drs and Support worker admit they haven't had anyone who was given it for their cancer treatment thought to be terminal and then survived. At least they are looking around for someone to help me. You should have a psychologist to help you come to terms with your situation as there are a lot of issues there too regarding how you came to be in this situation. You need to be able to move foreward with your life.
Sending you lots of good wishes and warmth to surround you at this difficult time. I hope you are getting good family support too.

I saw a new ob and they are referring me to the high risk fetal specialist and then I will also be seeing the high risk specialist at that office. Sorry it's been so long. I've been running around like crazy trying to find Dr's and a new apartment. Which luckily, I think we have found both. Hopefully the referral gets approved asap. I have two more appts today, so we will see how they go. I have to tell my neurologist I'm pregnant. But I'm pretty sure she will be able to help me. I also go to the internal medicine Dr today, another Dr I hate, but oh well. I'll keep y'all updated. I'm sorry it's been a while, I've been am over Dallas trying to find Dr's and an apartment.
