Fibro & TMJ

Hi All,

Just joined this site today on recommendation of my Dr. Today I have been diagnosed with TMJ, after suffering extreme pain for 6 weeks. It has really began to get me down.

I was diagnosed with fibro 2 yearsago and cope fairly well as my wonderful hubby does a lot around the house. I work from home as a childminder and tbh, some weeks I don't know how I do it. But I am learning to pace myself.

I am looking for any help or advice particularly with the TMJ pain altho would like to get to know other fibro sufferers too. Lou x

Hello everyone!  I am new in this forum but not new to the horrible pain of tmj. I am actually having a really bad flare up right now that is not going away...and really bad anxiety and depression kicked in.

The worse is that I live in Sweden, not a great place to get medical care. So I am struggling and searching online all the time wanting to find something that I can help myself or even get to know that I am not alone. Because I feel really alone suffering tmj in this country....

I have been using night guards done by orthodontic for more than a year but they are not helping. Dentist keeps on denying my case will become arthritis but now doctor suspects it is the case.  I am currently on corticol suggested by doctor but it is not helping with the swollenness and pain. I have been taking dicofenac for a while but I cannot take it when I am taking cortisol. I haven't tried any anti-depressant or stronger medication yet. Any of you have experience of using other medications? Or any suggestions on supplements?

Oh and one doc did mention I have developed CFS....but then that's it, no help, just gave me big scary name and then told me to accept it...

      Hi,

Sorry to hear that you don't seem to be getting 'cured' . I believe it is possible to almost do this by 'managing' the TMJ. After over 10 years of pain, I visited a Chiropractor based on someones advice on this forum!! I'm not sure if you have such in Sweden? They can show you how to massage around the areas of the face and temples to eviviate pain in the jaw and surrounding areas. I now only go three times a years, as I can now do these munipulations at home everyday and when ever I feel a flare up coming on manage it immediately. I rarely take medication now, just paracetamol every now and again if I get the headaches, jaw pain, but they are much less servere than before and I carry on my life normally now. Maybe you could look into Chiropractic care, or a the very least look up the massage exercises you would receive by checking on the internet and trying them? You don't have to suffer with this pain, please let me know how you get on.

      Hello Clair,

Thank you so much for your reply. I noticed this is no longer an active forum so I never thought anyone would reply me at all. So thanks!

I am glad to know that you can manage your tmj conditions and live a normal live. That give me a bit of hope. It is just that I cannot find any Chiropractor that have much experience in this area in Sweden. They are good with back pain but they admit they don't know much about the jaws. But I will keep on searching more info into whether I can try those trigger points maniputations myself. Have you heard of something like that?

I don't know about you or others that suffer tmj. For me I feel really stressed out because of the pain and the swollenness. Not to mention the tinnitus and sound sensitivity that comes with the whole package in my case. So honestly I am not doing ok and that's why I try to reach out to others in similar situation. I am glad that there is such platform in UK and US. There is no such thing in sweden...

Again I am grateful for your reply
