Fiery hot sweats

hello

I have experienced a number of night sweats over the past 3 months since becoming unwell (no not the menopause before you ask lol )

I have noticed that since I started on 'pred' last Tuesday these seem to have increased in intensity  and frequency ..... Waking dripping from the shoulders upwards !!!! Pillow ,sheet wet !!!!!!!

Is this a symptom others have also experienced ?

i had noticed over the past couple of weeks through out the day I also find that I appear to be really flushed feel very temperaturary on and off ...... it's like a burning furnace out of control .....

Helene

the more I reflect the more I am becoming aware that I have had subtle symptoms for a very long time until my body decided to crash ! We often are kinder to others than recognising that we also need to be kind and take much more care of our selves ....

    Hi Helene

I have GCA and am currently on 60mg Pred. I only have to stand up from sitting and I begin to sweat profusely immediately.I seem to have taps on my scalp as well as everywhere else!

Unless I stay seated and still - usually at an open window or outside (even when it's chilly) I sweat profusely.I don't have PMR and don't sweat at night - for which I am so grateful.

My hair  and clothing are permanently damp or wet (because I do have things I want to do). I have changes of clothing stashed all over the house and, on average try to limit the changes to 3 a day. I also have small towels strategically placed around (out of sight).

The washing machine is on every day for all of this in addition to the usual wahes.

I'm in and out of the shower as and when I have to! I drink loads of water to keep hydrated. I've given up on hot drinks as they seem to start me off too.

While I was tapering down, the intensity of these daytime sweats decreased dramatically and I suspect they will for you too.I can't comment on your night sweats as I don't experience that.

Things will get better for you as your dode of PRED is reduced. Hang on in there.

All the very best to you.

      Thanks Jean

interestingly the sweats started about 6 weeks ago before starting on Steroids , but the frequency and intensity had increased Big a Time ....to furnace heat ! since popping 'pred'

I have experienced similar day sweats ... That just pop out of no where !!! It's like being in sauna , but 10 times worse lol .

I am only on 20 mgs as well .

im hoping that these sweats are therapeutic .... Cos they are sure not pleasant .

take care and thank you for sharing your story with me .

I think of all the side effects of pred I have had this was the one I would have liked to get rid of most. My rheumy said that HRT helped but I don't know of anyone who has backed that up.

One lady who had GCA has been on HRT for many years - made no difference to the sweats, she sat with a towel round her shoulders some of the time! The HRT almost certainly helped her bone density though.

Yes Helene - totally "normal" for both PMR and pred. I had sweats with PMR when I wasn't on pred (5 years) and had sweats with pred (5 more years). I'm down to 4mg and now it is just gentle glows rather than shower-like episodes...
