Finally beat Threadworm, here's how I did it.

Firstly I want to say that I am not a medical doctor and so medical advice should be taken before taking any medication listed below.

I started having the itchy bottom symptoms around September 2011 and booked in an appointment with my doctor. The doctor said it was nothing serious and told me to take Anusol cream for the itch. There is no doubt that the Anusol cream did relieve the itching symptoms for a few hours but I was constantly waking up throughout the night with a horrible urge to itch. It got so bad that I was getting constant baths every few hours just to provide some sort of relief. I was very tired and irritable the next day in work and started feeling depressed and even started losing weight as my appetite had gone.

At the time I was single (30 year old man) with no kids and so thought threadworm would be unlikely the cause and perhaps it was piles. The itching just seemed to get worse and worse even during the day so I started researching the internet for hours and hours and decided it must be threadworms. I also confirmed the presence of threadworm by excreting into a large piece of tinfoil around the toilet seat and the small white thread like worms were visible although not in great numbers.

I took the Ovex (mebendazole) tablet and after 2 or 3 days the itching decreased and finally stopped. I was so thankful that this ordeal was over, then to my horror the symptoms started to appear again after about a week. I immediately took another Ovex and followed a very strict hygiene routine of changing my sheets every day and washing the bath / shower etc with bleach. All carpets were vacuumed and door handles wiped down.

Again I was given several days where the itching stopped but it wasn’t long before the dreading wriggling sensation returned as soon as I got into bed at nights and I was back to square one. I remember feeling so down, I had to cancel a date and just sat in the house depressed and looking up websites about threadworm for hours and hours. It finally got to the point where I was so depressed that I wondered if life was worth living any more. I read many posts online about people who have had this condition for 20+ years which didn’t help my situation.

I remember one night while sitting in the bath at about 2am having being woken up by the itch, I said to myself I am going to beat this problem once and for all. I decided to research herbal remedies and read pages of useful information on how to beat the worms once and for all. I must say that a lot of the useful tips came from this website which is why I have decided to post my experience here in the hope it helps others out.

Materials Needed

The first thing to do is order the following 3 products from Organic nutrition:

50ml Black Walnut Hull Extract (extra strength tincture)

120 Clove Capsules

120 Wormwood Capsules

Full instructions

Total cost = £36.75

1 x Dust Mask which can be bought in a DIY store

1 x Nail Brush

1 x packet of Ovex

1 x Packet of pumpkin seeds from a health store

1 x packet of odourless garlic capsules

4 x packets of chopped up pineapple chunks

Once all the materials and capsules have arrived, you need to do the follow:

Take 1 ovex tablet with water and while wearing the dusk mask you need to vacuum every inch of carpet especially in your bedroom. (The eggs can easily spread during this method so to prevent you from getting re-infected it is advised to wear a dust mask which covers your mouth and nose). After vacuuming, you need to change your bed sheets and wipe down all door handles, tap handles etc. Place the bed sheets and any towels in the wash at 90 degrees and iron once dry. This is the only way to be sure the eggs are killed.

The process must be repeated everyday for at least 10 days, I know it is a pain but believe me the end result is worth the hassle.

You should also start taking your Black Walnut, clove and wormwood capsules as per the instructions that come with them. Also try and eat a few handfuls of the pumpkin seeds throughout the day and take a portion of pineapple chunks daily. These are all well know anti-parasitic remedies that actually work. Follow this routine for 2 weeks.

Finally and very importantly, the eggs that may still be in your house can survive up to 2 weeks in normal conditions. If these are re-inhaled again then you are back to square one. I read in many forums that if the house is warmed up to 50 degrees then the eggs can only survive for 2 hours.

Every morning when I went to work, I left the heat on full blast for 9 hours at the highest temperature and opened the curtains in every room as the eggs are also sensitive to sunlight. Vacuumed every night with my dust mask on and tried not to eat fast foods but stuck to things like brown rice and vegetables.

I am happy to say that so far 2 months have past and the wriggling feeling has not returned and my life has got back to normal and I am now in a relationship again. I never found out how I originally got infected with threadworm but hopefully I have got rid of these horrible parasites once and for all.

I hope this helps some of you to rid these parasites and should you have any questions then please feel free to ask.

A few questions for those battling threadworms and finding the medication is not working:

    1. Were you treated for worms regularly as a child?

    2. Do you have hemorhoids?

    3. Do you suffer from constipation?

Hi Carly8, did the albenzadole cure you? I have the exact same story, it's been 3 months, I am on my second round of Albenzadole (first taken start and mid dec, second round Dec 30th and then a few days ag) but I am still having wiggling in my eyes and ears so not convinced it's working for me. Please can you tell me if it worked for you?

      Hi Dash74278,

How is your itchy system? Is it get better? I have been taking albendazole also. I have been taking 8 days continuous. I still feel wiggling but like one time a day at night. It's very weak and feel like Jeeeeeeez less than a second.

I will keep taking albendazole for 14 days then I will take a 7 days break. I hope I get better. I want my parasites to go away.

How do you take your albendazole?

         Hope you get better.

    Hi everyone

Thanks so much for the really helpful posts - comforting as well as informative, especially as I had a really horrible night with virtually no sleep as the ear tingling was back with a vengeance during the night.

I'm really hoping my GP will find a way to prescribe Albendazole for all of us as I think it's the only thing that has a shot of getting this bout under control, if not cleared (I wonder if in some people they ever really clear). I will then try the natural routes again if that fails, following the tips you've given. Like I say, my main fear is that the girls will succumb to chronic infection. I hate not feeling able to protect them.

Meantime, I've now cut out all white carbs and sugars in an attempt to starve them of their beloved sugar (on the upside maybe I'll finally shift that half stone I've been wanting to lose). Can't see that working for the girls - the only way I was able to bribe them to take the horse-pill sized herbal tablets was by dangling a malteser as a bribe!

Interesting what you say, Carly8, about the ear nose and throat thing perhaps being referred sensation rather than necessarily an indicator that they are physically present in those locations. The tickling is so constant in my left ear that I can't see how it's an actual worm moving around. On the other hand, I am pretty sure I had a dead one in my throat mucus the other day, which would tend to suggest they are physically in my ENT area.

In relation to the 3 qus you asked

My mum says she has no recollection at all of worms in my childhood. I'm pretty sure my first contact was 2.5 years ago and that the route was my daughter's school. That was the first time I ever took Ovex.

    I don't have hemorrhoids

As to constipation, readers of a sensitive disposition may wish to avert their gaze... I do have a bowel condition - a structural injury as a result of childbirth injuries, which means I have difficulty, umm, evacuating. But I do empty daily albeit with some difficulty; I don't have slow gut motility or IBS slowing things down. I have been wondering whether the difficulties evacuating might be contributing to retroinfection. But the frequent ovex should, in theory, should be killing off the newly hatched ones before they reach maturity and are able to start laying eggs of their own. It's one of the reasons I'm pretty sure that the ovex isn't working properly for me in the first place.

    God this is undignified stuff.

    Thanks again

    Hi everyone

I'm thirteen and I live at boarding school but go home every weekend.

For the past 1-2 months I've had really bad and unusual stomach aches and I didn't know why. About 2 or 3 days ago I found a worm and I'm pretty sure it's a threadworm. I've had these tingling sensations but no itching whatsoever. I'm really scared to visit my parents because I don't want them to get infected, should I tell my mom about it? I really don't know what to do I mean can I even sit in a car or bus without leaving eggs on the seat? Can you see the eggs? What do they look like? Can I visit my parents without risking that they get infected? What about the eyes, I know it sounds weird but can you put can t eggs into your eyes and can they get into your system by rubbing your eyes? I made a list of all the things I have to do to get rid of them but sometimes I think that ending my life is the best option since I don't want anyone else to suffer from my infection. Thanks for sharing your stories btw, I spent the last 2 hours reading them desperately.

If you do have worms then they are not a serious problem , they will not kill you or maim you so do not be too concerned about spreading it to others at this stage.

Take some time to be kind to yourself. You are not to blame. Find an adult to help to resolve this problem. Remember for most people an over the counter medication works perfectly. I am sure your parents will manage to deal with it. It is after all very common in schools. You could also talk to a teacher a school councilor or nurse or any adult there that you feel would be compassionate to your issue. Please stay in contact. There are many people out there that really care. Even if they are not around you at the moment.

    Hello amyc

My daughter is about to start boarding school also. As you are only weekly boarding, you can tell your mum this weekend. She can go to a local chemist and the pharmacist can advise which medication would be best for you. You won't pass these to your parents if you get started with the medication as soon as possible and follow the simple rules. Do wear clean knickers at night and have a quick bath or shower each morning to clean that area. Once the medication kicks in you will be fine. And no, you will not leave worms/eggs on car seats etc. And eggs are far too small to see. Please do not worry.

Also there is the school nurse you can talk to if need be. The stomach cramps, if below the tummy button area they could be your monthly cycle about to start. But ask your mum or the school nurse.

Let us know how you're getting on. You will be absolutely fine.

    Thank you all so much.

I told my mom and I'm going to the doctor's tomorrow. I just want it to go away, it's driving me mad and i can't sleep at night. Does somebody know how often i should wash my sheets? I read somewhere that you should wash them daily if you have threadworms. I mean i could do that but it's a lot of effort. Also, when they're gone, what can i do to prevent them from coming back?

    Thanks again

It would be a good idea to do an immediate thorough bedroom clean up if you can and then just once a week or will be enough.

Strip the bedding, and put it into the wash (pillow cases/sheets/duvet cover). Then damp dust the surfaces in the bedroom, bedside table, dressing table, chest of drawers etc. (some water on a duster will do it). Finally, hoover/vacuum the bedroom carpet. If you wear underwear at night time this will help prevent any eggs/worms from getting onto the sheets while you are on the medication. Then you can have a bath or shower in the mornings and then you must change to fresh underwear for the day. Put night time underwear straight into the wash basket. So each night you put fresh underwear on and each morning also.

Might be a good idea to have a new toothbrush for the bathroom as a precaution and always use your own towels after the shower etc. And see how you get on before worrying about them coming back. Best Wishes.

Right everyone, ive been to my new doctors and they are really good. I told them about these threadworms and how long ive had them and how many doctors have told me the same rubbish and that is to take tsblets etc.

well this doctor has sent me off for a blood test to check my liver and other things in my body to see if they are all working 100% so then she can give me a strong course of treament to clear out the whole of my body inclusing these worms, the reason they have to check my liver etc.. is coz this treatment is so powerful that if a liver etc.. isn't in perfect condition then the treament can harm the liver etc...

ill keep you all informed in the next few weeks what happens.

Ps. I can't remember the treatment she is gonna give me but ill find out soon as and find.

These are the blood tests they be giving me...

    full blood count (FBC),

    Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR),

    Liver,

    Glucose.

Hi MumE8, just wondering whether you had any success getting rid of the worms?

I took the 3 month course of Albendazole, but had symptoms return as soon as I stopped taking the tablets. I convinced myself it was psychological (having had an infection and worried excessively for so long). I saw a doctor who did a lot of tests. Blood tests showed a few irregularities but she was not concerned. She

also ordered Abdominal CT scans, which showed nothing.

I continued to have very mild symptoms. I decided to take action myself and went to a specialist who did a colonoscopy. I am waiting on the results, though it did show some irritation.

Strangely enough tonight I was sitting here thinking about my own symptoms and how strange the whole thing is, when my daughter woke very distressed. She complained about ticking inside her vagina. I looked and couldn't see anything, then hidden away I noticed a tiny threadworm. Most people would never have seen it, only I knew that what she was talking about were worms.

She first had symptoms about a month ago, but I couldn't find anything.

I am just wondering what ended up happening with you. I continue to get the symptoms in my ears, and I also notice that my throat gets very itchy as well. I also notice I grit my teeth at night, could be stress related. I'm just so over the whole thing, I don't know where to go from here.

    Hoping you've had success.
