Finally found the cause of my Prostatitis

After my 2nd test of just providing a semen sample, Staphylococcus was found to be my problem causing prostatitis.  This is good news to me since I have been dealing with this for 7 months and on and off for years.  I was on 2 weeks of Cipro and since it did not work and I am allergic to shell fish so Bactrim will not work, the doctor would like to administer the antibiotics via poss IV ABX, every day for 28 days.  The clinic is close by me thank God and will be in an out in an hour each day.  Does anyone have experience with this procedure for Bacterial Prostatitis?

Michael, i have found this thread really interesting, and my prostatitis seems back with a vengeance and normal A/B's are doing nothing. Am going to ask about a semen test but wonder if it will be possible because of my E/D.  Just feel something is trapped in my Prostate but thankfull that I/V for a month gave me 3 good months.

Dave Are you able to ejaculate. Like me you have had the TURP and this causes retro ejaculation.

Steven,  No can't ejaculate as cannot get an erection even with Sildenafil. Seeing E/D nurse next week.  Convinced I have trapped infection.

Michael , Gone back to pain in penis and testes tender to touch. Pain passing water plus flow is slower again especially night and early morning. If I have a shower I itch like mad on my penis and testes while washing and drying. Also got infection below my foreskin again.  Don't think many Doctors really know how to investigate and treat this condition.

I see, get the urine dna done and give the results to the docter if needed. call the lab and see about sending off your urine yourself .

Dave, I wish you well, my friend. I am so sorry for your problem. I can get an erection and have orgasm, I just can't ejaculate.

Steven,  Thanks for that, but feel fortunate as others are far worse than me, and at least we can talk about it and learn other ideas to pass to our Drs.

Good to hear, I have been on Levaquine now for 3 weeks with little to no improvment.  I have one more week and will get retested for both urine NDA and semen.  I did see on my DNA report athat Avelox was recomended.  Please let me know if it knocks it out.

Another Update....  Staph Epidermidis was fond in my semen, I did a urine test, (Twice) and nothing was found... Did a urine DNA test and it found Serrat Marcescens and Stap Aerococcus...Doc moved me from Cirpo to Levaquin for 4 weeks.  Fleeing much better but still have a stinging in my urethra.  Went back to the doctor and did a cystoscopy and a rectal ultrasound.  Prostate is still swollen on the left side and is a "31 in size".  This is on the top end of normal, normal being 30 or smaller.  Found a small cyst on my prostate but the doctor was not concerned, bladder and urethra looked good.  Doctor feels the Levaquin killed the Serrat M but still have 1 or 2 of the bugs left.  His point was you are feeling better but until  your urine DNA and semon come back clean you are being treated for bacterial prostatitis.  I did another semen and urine sample yesterday and waiting on the results next week for the DNA and tomorrow for the semon.  According to the DNA results for the bugs I have, Levaquine will not kill the Aerococcus or the Epidermidis only the Serrata.  Doctor said if they are still present (I am sure the are), it will need 6 to 8 weeks of Bactrum/Doxe combo according to the DNA report because no one antibiotic will work on both strains...  Few things I have learned.  The DNA did a great job finding bugs not found in normal cutlers but the semen sample is also very important.  According to my uro, 95% of all prostatitis cases are bacterial and most often they require several different kinds of antibiotics to kill what you have.  I have also come to realized that more often than not, it's several bugs causing the problem.  I am 8 months into this and I live almost a normal life now, I can manage what is left and can finally see an end in site.  If you have prostatitis and you are not getting your semen and urine DNA done, you are guessing on what the next steps are.

      Michael,

I have BPH and enlarged prostate, 120+ cc.  I also have some symptoms of prostatitis and my PSA has not come down since my biopsy 2 years ago.  The Bx showed no cancer. A second multi-parametric MRI showed nothing suspicious aside from large median lobe.

However I can't find a doctor who will do more than a urinalysis. No one will look at prostatic fluid under a microscope.  All I can do is try to build my immune system with oil of oregano and vitamin D.

Where do I go to find a doctor to rule out chronic bacterial infection?

It's frustrating to deal with this (LUTS) and not to have answers.
