Finally getting some sort of help :0)

Hi everyone hope you are all well & fighting fit today :0).

Well one week away from my knee op & I started to cough up blood again ! Luckily I had a sputum container handy so used that to cough into, filled it three quarters the way up in 5 mins of coughing ! Took it to the doctors & asked if I could see the SR nurse & was told she was busy & why did I need to see her, showed the receptionist the sputum container & she said take a seat & I will book you in now as she has free spot in 10 mins, surprise lol. Saw the nurse & showed her the sample, she was shocked at how much blood I had coughed up as I don't think anyone believed me in the past when I told them how much I was coughing up. She went & had a chat with one of the doctors then came back, she has taken a picture of the sample & saved it to her computer & is going to send the picture to the specialist at the respiratory clinic at the hospital along with a load of other notes, she is going to try to get me seen quicker now as I shouldn't be coughing up this much blood. I think the sample scared them a bit as now they going to also see why I get a burning in my chest everyday & why my chest & back hurt everyday, progress at last. Shame it took a sample bottle full of blood to get the ball rolling & not them taking my word for it, hay ho. Only thing is it might mean my knee op is cancelled next Monday as they might say my lungs aren't fit enough for the anaesthetic, will have to wait & see when I get to the hospital & see them.

They have even got you antibiotics sorted so I will have a supply at home to take straight away if it starts again so that's good news too. Well I'm sure I've waffled on enough now so I'll stop here lol. Hope you are all well & fit today, remember everyone, keep smiling & laughing & never give in :0)

Good luck Dave, be interested to hear your results from your Sputum/ Blood sample. If your op is cancelled it may be the safer option for you. Keep us informed and take good care.

Maybe something like this is what it needed to get people to notice! Anyway good luck & let us know the outcome. 😊

It's a shame it takes something like this to make them listen 4jean but I suppose its the way things are. I'll let you know the results when get them Friday. Take care & thanks for your comment :0)

    Hi Dave

It will be good to know what "bugs" were in the blood.  It so annoying that it takes something like this for them to take you seriously! I expect you will be seen quicker now .... which is a positive thing!  As for the op prob a good idea to wait a while till  you are over this nasty infection.   All the best.

Hi trish, I was thinking that too but I'd also like to know where the bleed is coming from & why it keeps happening ! Get the results this Friday so will let you know the outcome. Will have to wait to see what happens with the op when I get to the hospital next Monday, all depends on the sputum test I'd imagine. Take care & thank you for your comment :0)

Hi cofalot, I suppos it's one of those things & maybe taking in a sample bottle full of blood was what was needed for them to listen & believe me, like you said tho it is a shame it takes something like this to get someone to listen, makes you wonder who else is in the same boat as me. As for the knee well all I can do is wait till Monday & I see the consultant & the  anesthiest & see what they say. Take care & thank you for your comment :0)

Hi everyone, hope your all well & breathing easy :0).

Spoke to the nurse yesterday to get the results from my sputum sample, well I say sputum but as you know it was a sample full of blood, she checked the results & they have come back completely negative for any infection & there were no abnormalities in the sample, now I know that's great news but it still doesn't explain why I cough up so much blood but no mucus ! I'm totally confused & so is the nurse as to why & where this bleed is coming from. I'm on a two week course of amoxicillin, 2 X 500mg 3 times a day again even tho no infection found ! In the last month or so I've taken that many tablets I sound like a packet of smarties being shaken every time I walk lol. Was hoping for some answers to what is causing the bleed but got none. I'll just have to wait till see the specialist at the hospital in August & see what they say & what they can do to find out why I do cough up so much blood, I'll keep you posted when I know anything. Take care everyone & keep smiling & laughing everyday :0).

Hi Dave, I'm sure you're intrigued to know where this blood is coming from and why. Just wondering why more Antibiotics when there's no infection. Take care and keep us posted, you are intriguing me. X

Well Dave that is strange, i know Joes consultant said some people cough up blood but i think he ment a little bit. Wonder if it is because you are coughing hard? you might have torn something

Hi Susan, I too would love to know where the blood is coming from & what's causing it as its a mystery at the moment. As for the antibiotics the nurse told me to finish the course even tho I haven't got an infection. I have seen others say they started antibiotics before sending a sputum test then when the test came back clear they stopped them so I'm not sure. When & if I ever find the cause I'll let everyone know, till then take care & thank you for your comment :0)

Hi jeannie, you are right that some people cough up a small amount of blood with bronchiectasis but I seem too cough up lots which is a rare side to bronchiectasis, typical me !! It's not due to coughing too hard as it usually starts with a couple of small coughs followed by crackling noise in my chest then the blood starts, it can happen at any time & I don't get a warning or any signals as too it's going to start. So every time I cough now I wait for the crackling noise just in case. It's a pain but until I see the specialist at the hospital & get some answers or more tests I'll just have too wait. Hope your well, take care & thanks for you comment :0)

Same. Once i coughed up big amount of blood and doctors don't find any infection. Other time when i coughed up a small amount i think i've heard some crackling noise in my chest, like a capillary is blowed up or something.
