    Hi T

I have been taking both Finasteride and Tamsulosin for 18 months and yes it has reduced/stopped ejaculation and it does not appear to have reduced or stopped the prostate from growing. I had a TURP that did not go to plan a month ago and have had a catheter since. The catheter was removed to-day and yeppee I have passed urine 3 times so far and it flowed like a pressirsed hose.I had a bladder scan and there was 35 ml left which was a good result. Long may this continue. I am also no longer taking the 2 drugs. Regards Peter

Well, as I have said many times in these threads, if you are already on the meds do your due diligence, choose the best procedure for your condition and don't delay, get the problem taken care of surgically. Let us know and best of luck to you. Ron

    Tonton,

I am on tamulosin and I believe it is killing me. My GP diagnose Labrynyhitis and thta my vertigo and chest tightness would go away in weeks. I eliminated all my meds and reintroduced them  a  few at a time. Apart from urinating maybe 8 times a night I felt fine. Today I took Tamulosin and within hours was falling all over the place.Enemy identified I believe. I am 78 and have a pacemker and take loads of other meds. I hesitate to have surgery for obvious reasons.

Is there another tablet or non invasive procedure available on NHS in UK??

after a physical exam, my family doctor recommended Finasteride (Proscar)  to shrink my BPH prostate, as I said I was getting up 2 to 3 times a night to urinate. Well, after taking Finasteride for about 2 weeks, I started having negative sexual side effects. I was not able to have an organism, which lead to a most uncomfortable feeling of congestion in my prostate for days on end. At age 71, i kept telling myself that the problem was that I am getting old, or was too tired, or needed more sleep. Then sexual desire started going away. I kept on with the pills for another 2 weeks, until I realized the medication was causing the problem. The negative sexual side effect is well documented on the internet. After seeing a urologist, and first filling out a medical questionaire, I realized i was drinking way too much coffee. Perhaps as much as a Mister Coffee pot of coffee a day. I cut way back on coffee consumption, and found I now get up only about once per night to urinate.

Imo, finasteride is not a good med. After reading much about the drug, it is considered a mild hormonal drug, designed to alter testosterin. No wonder the bad sexual side effects. It is sometimes prescribed for men in the process of changing sex to become a women. I am unhappy that my family doctor told me nothing of the bad sexual side effects. Reports on the internet list bad sexual side effects around 2-3%. However, one doctor thought the bad side effect around 25%. Over time, i bet that the percentage is even higher. Many users may be too embarassed to discuss the problem with anyone.. One previous user described Finasteride effect as a slow, but persistant drug leading to chemical castration. I agree with the opinion of others, that prostate meds are not that good, or effective. No such thing as cure from a bottle.
