Hi, I tried Sertrline for 5 weeks but I guess it wasn't meant for me, started on Escitalopram today 5mg for 2-days and then 10mg after. if you would share your feedback, side effects what to expect, how to best deal with them and finally I understand it takes about 2 weeks before I see any benefits...Would greatly appreciated! I'm suffering from Anxiety with slight depression. Thank you

    Happy Sunday friends,

I hope your both able to find some peace and happiness in the day. Even if only a few moments.

I have decided to fond a new Dr for a second opinion.

I am currently staying on the Escitalopram and ativan but I just feel with every ounce of my being that my current Dr has made some decisions for me that have not been in my best interest and want a second opinion. I have also decided to go see an ENDROCHRONOGIST because when I asked this Dr if anything could be hormonal causing this along with the meds her response was

"I am not even bothering to check hormones you are only 48 and hormone issues arise around 52"

With that ignorant answer i have decided to try a new dr because my mom started menopause at 47 as did almost all of the women in my family start early onset menopause.

I have no idea why i shared all of this with the two of you but I guess it makes me feel better since you both have been my support for almost three weeks now!

    Have a super day!

Brian I am only on 10 mg and i know that is a small dose as they say but the issue arrived after being on citalopram for 19 years and missing a week due to running out while i was in CT taking care of my mom.

When I returned i was taking double the amount of CIT 20 mg which is what caused my severe side effects of anxiety and depersonalization.

I was told to keep taking the citalopram and eventually it would level out. In the meantime she filled me an additional script so I would not run out again. I went to pick it up and it was lexapro not the citalopram.

I called and asked why she changed it and she said she made a mistake but to stay on the citalopram but that the Lexapro would be better for my anxiety and side effects that developed. i told her i just wanted to feel better so she advised me to start the lexapro and stop the citalopram since they are basically the same exact thing. SO I stopped the citalopram immediately and started the lexapro 10 right away with no tapering.

its been 6 weeks today and NO CHANGE at all only worse. She gave me ativan to calm my nerves which I take 3 times a day though I try to get by with only taking 2 a day because im so afraid of getting addicted to them and also i really want to work through this.

When i questioned the menopause she blew me off and then when i asked why she wanted me to wait 6 more weeks to test the LEX when there has been no change at all not even in the slightest and the side effects were so brutal she said because I switched from Cit to Lex, I was suffering from heavy withdrawl of the cit for stopping so fast and switching to the lexapro was giving me even more side effects because

they are two totally different pills. I called her out for telling me they were basically the same and she had mo answer other then just stick through it.

my dr also told me that cit and lexapro are the same but lexapro is a newer version with less side effects. i am also on 10. he may move my up to 20 when i see him in a month i dont know.

kate also said the lexapapro is known for less side effects.

yes i agree you probably having a lot of withdrawels from stopping cit and changing to lexapro during a time when your anxiety levels were so high. that happened to me coming off paxil for 13 years and trying to get on something else took forever for me to calm down. if you going to stay on lexapro 6 weeks is still early to be able to tell anything. im 48 too and my wife went through menapause early 5 years ago she was 40 . it was hard on her. dr said the ssris med would help.

sometimes i think some drs and theropist think to lightly of these meds . one little change can mess me up for 6 months or a year. they think its nothing just a change!!!

I just feel like at this point a second opinion is vital since shes been less then supportive the entire time and making mistakes such as telling me I didn't have to taper from cit to lex then says oops wait yes you should have.

My breaking point was when she refused to entertain the idea of possible menopause issues causing me more problems.

Its so bad. I wake with severe morning anxiety no matter how hard I try to prep myself the night before.

I cry 3-4 times a day and constantly feel

anxious and yucky with no emotions whatsover other than fear and sadness.

I try to stay focused on tasks to overcome the depersonalization yet I cant find interest in anything and wind up losing interest and going back to thinking about my emotional flatness and cry all over again. Then that leads to thinking about dying (I am NOT SUICIDAL)all the time because I do not want to be stuck like this for the rest of my life.

      vicious cycle

looks like you just got moderated too!!!

you would think since you were on cit for years and it worked the dr would have just started you back up on the same dose of cit after the week you missed. ??

have you talked to katecogs about this? she was on cit for years and stopped and then started back later.

its hard to find a good one. i had one out of 3 general drs that new how these meds worked and one out of two physichatrist that was really good and compassionate. i didnt have much luck with any of the therapist. they took me down the past and this was that and that was this and this caused that. at the point i was at i just wanted to move forward and get out of that hole . i pretty much new stress caused it. but as a man i did struggle with admitting i had this and needed help. that didnt help me recover any faster! the physc dr i have now is smart with the meds but not as compassionate. i think you are doing the rt thing . i had to make that same decision 10 years ago when i stopped taking paxil and my general dr just kept saying try this one try that one . i went to a christian counselor with the baptist accosiation and he recomended a good physchiatrist that helped me. i just left my general dr out of it except for the meds until i got in to see pshciatrist.

just dont make any sudden changes with the meds. a physchi dr knows more about these meds and how to change them . like i said before most people with anxiety like me are very sensitive to changes and side effects with these meds . do you have access to a christian counselor ? or any other way to get in to see an individual psychiatrist?

Brian I so agree and i feel like I am definitely with the wrong one.

I have an appointment with her today and I am positive it will be the exact same conversation.

These things take time. (Which i agree too).

but she will ignore all my other concerns and symptoms.

I will let you know how it goes!

for me all 4 ssris ive been on worked i just have to stay on them except for the one that hurt my tummy but it did work.

another thing ive found out is the general drs does not want to give out klonopin but the pshychiatrist will.
