First fall

Posted , 21 users are following.

There was some water on the tiles in the bathroom, I didn't see it, and I have slipped and fallen, not very badly, but my operated leg skidded from underneath me, and a horrible pain shot through my hip. I am fine I think, shaky but fine. I know I haven't dislocated my hip, as I can still stand on it and walk, but the whole hip area is very painful, as well as my lower calf area. My groin especially feels bad why would that hurt so much? I feel quite shocked too...I was dreading this moment, which must come at some point to most of us.

I think my hip is okay in the sense there is no serious injury, even if it is really hurting, I know others have fallen too, how bad was the pain? And do I still need to get it checked by a dr? What can I do to ease the pain? Any suggestions. Any reassurance that I haven't damaged anything would be good, I am limping very badly when I walk.

Oh, Rose, I am so sorry. It must be a dreadful shock!

With Easter around the corner, I would makean appointment with the doctors as it will give you peace of mind and a comfort blanket. You can always cancel it if you find you do not need it.

I am sorry I can not offer more help.

Thanks Michael, I went to bed for two hours and slept in the end, I felt ill from the shock and now can walk a little bit better. I am just recovering from respiratory flu so don't really want to take my germs to the dr surgery with all the young families, pregnant mothers etc unless it is completely necessary.

I think a fall is inevitable at some stage - but I think it is going to be fine. Thank you so much for your post.

Oh no! Put some ice on the sore areas to help reduce swelling. I would be shocked too. Maybe you pulled a muscle in your groin or overstretched a ligament.

All the best to you. 💟

I am hoping Bridie that is all it is! Thanks for your message smile x

Oh Rose, and you were doing so well.

Rest, ice on the affected area, cup of tea, look after yourself.

Possibly pulled something a bit?   If in doubt, get checked out before Easter when it will be difficult to see a doctor.

Think, if you had slipped and fallenbefore your THR, you'd have been in some pain too, so you have probably (hopefully) done less damage that you imagine.

Yes you are right, and it can't be anything bad as the pain has eased considerably after a few hours in bed with my leg rested and elevated. I haven't slept so deeply in ages or for so long.

I knew the day would come when I would fall or slip, and I have been so very careful not to rush around or take risks, just didn't see the water in the bathroom, I would have 'ran' a mile had I seen it! I broke my fall which was good, and no harm done.

Thanks so much for your message. Now I know how Maggie and Lyn felt when they had their falls, it takes the wind out of your sails for a bit!

Hi Rose, sorry to hear that and i feel your pain as I've done the same. Best thing is to ice it and elevate your leg also would she a doctor as you could have fractured it which is easily done.

I had to go to bed for a few hours Sue! I felt quite shaken. It is much better now so I think I was lucky. It caught me unawares, I was having such a good day - the sun is shining, spring has arrived and I am due to go on holiday in a few days!!

How did you fall? I don't feel my sense of balance has completely returned, I wonder when that changes...

    Awwww.... Rose ...

I agree with Michael - better safe etc .... darn it, it just sneaks up on you, doesn't it -

I remember getting out of the car as a normal person , one leg at a time, and pulled that muscle in my groing so badly, I could barely stand on it and and not drive for at least a week -

What a bummer ... how do you feel about using a stick for a couple of days to help you walk?????   it sucks , right

I don't think you damage anything, but have it checked anyway ...

Giving you a big warm hug

It does definitely have the element of surprise, one minute fine, next...not so fine at all! Maybe this happens when we begin to completely relax and take our eye off the ball. I have been pretty much forgetting about this ole hip of mine of late, and usually my eyes are out on stalks 'looking' for anyting that may potentially be a problem, lately I have relaxed a lot...a sharp reminder to keep being careful perhaps.

I remember your car moment.!!! It feels like yesterday...time flies when you are having fun right??? smile

I might need to use my crutch again today - need to walk around and see if I can manage...

Thank you for your hug, sending you one back!! x

Thanks Sue, I slept away the shock, have a face the colour of snow but apart from that feel a little better...I was scared more than anything. Tiles, water and new hip the worst combination!!
