First fall

Posted , 21 users are following.

There was some water on the tiles in the bathroom, I didn't see it, and I have slipped and fallen, not very badly, but my operated leg skidded from underneath me, and a horrible pain shot through my hip. I am fine I think, shaky but fine. I know I haven't dislocated my hip, as I can still stand on it and walk, but the whole hip area is very painful, as well as my lower calf area. My groin especially feels bad why would that hurt so much? I feel quite shocked too...I was dreading this moment, which must come at some point to most of us.

I think my hip is okay in the sense there is no serious injury, even if it is really hurting, I know others have fallen too, how bad was the pain? And do I still need to get it checked by a dr? What can I do to ease the pain? Any suggestions. Any reassurance that I haven't damaged anything would be good, I am limping very badly when I walk.

Aww rose you must have got a huge fright. I had a slip after my first thr but l was that aware of my hip l managed just on time to get my hands to take the force of the fall l was shaking but new right away l had not done damage as l had caught it just on time.

It sounds like you have maybe just bruised it if there is a bit of pain but if l was you l would just get it checked out as michael said for a piece of mind. What a shame. The fright would be worse than the fall. Try relax get some ice and maybe call the hospital or your gp and tell them whats happened.

    Hope your ok

It does happen, and when you least expect it. I am not certain my balance has returned properly yet....it doesn't take much. Your fall sounds similar to mine, I broke my fall, but my operated hip slipped very fast and painfully...but has settled down a little now. Had a long sleep and feel better.

I am sure it is fine. It is scary though isn't it?

Yeah very scary l was shaking like a leaf l think l got more of a fright than l did hurt myself.

As long as you are ok rose xxx

Oh Rose, such a shock and something we all worry about. I agree get it checked for your own piece of mind. Rest and give yourself time to get over it, I'm sure you will be fine. Rosemary x

Rosemary thank you for your message - the shock is horrible and the worry, I don't want to start at the beginning again!!! Can you just imagine...so maybe a warning to slow down again.. sleep does wonders for shock. I feel better now.

    Hi rose,

See the doctor for reassurance by all means but I think if you had dislocated it you would not be able to use the leg at all.

Take the weight of it, keep it up and stretched out/extended.

    Ice and painkillers.

Try not to get upset. Most hippies have these setbacks. It is all part of learning how to respect your new joint. Water on the floor is a real problem at first but becomes less so as the new hip gains control. A few months down the line your new hip will cope with any little problems like this. Surprising as that may sound.

    Hugs,

    Shirley

I definitely haven't dislocated, I would expect to be in agony, and I can still stand and walk, be it with a limp.

I can't reach the painkillers as my husband has put them away high, and there is no way I am climbing up to get them!! smile so will do without and keep resting it.

Most hippies do have slips and falls, you are completely right and most are perfectly fine. I am glad to hear I won't always have to be this careful....I have been so mindful of every movement, not sure I could live like this forever - that is so reassuring thank you. I am sure balance comes back, and also confidence.

Hugs to you - thanks for your lovely message

Oh Rose, I know how your feeling, get the doctor phoned, always best to get checked out, Possibly just pulled the muscles but the doc can put your mind to rest.

I fell while I was in hospital, fell off my zimmer, seemed like slow motion and tried not to fall on my bad hip, hurt my elbows but hip was ok, very frightning and I admit I cried, thought I'd damaged things.

    Hope everything is ok.

I remember your fall in hospital, oh my goodness, I think that is a much more serious scenario when you are only just out of surgery. I think i would have cried too....especially because we have to learn to trust our new hips early on.

I felt very shocked earlier and went to bed, feeling less sick and more calm now.. all is fine, and now we have our first falls out of the way I guess..and will pray for no more for either of us!! xx

No fall is good Rose. does not matter when, I would hate to think I fell and was by myself,

Did you have someone to help you?  Are you feeling a bit better now, hope the muscles are not feeling too bad.

Rose, with any luck it is just soft tissue/muscle damage. You might have some small tears/sprain in any of the muscles in the buttock/hip/thigh. Rest, elevation, ice as others have said and time will tell the extent of the damage. Glad you are feeling better after a long sleep!

Rose, I'm so sorry to hear you had a fall.  That must shake your confidence hugely and I imagine for a time will make you quite fearful of falling again.

I'm late to the discussion so by now it seems that apart from the inevitable shock and extra soreness no real damage has been done.  I very pleased it wasn't too serious.

    Sending gentle hugs,

How far we've come with this journey eh?

Staples out is liberating - like having a zipper taken out.

      Best wishes

Yes, much more comfortable now they are out, they were starting to prickle.  Some were hanging on for dear life though.  They didn't want to come out at all and now what was a lovely clean wound is bleeding in several places.   Grrrrrr!  New dressing on and we'll see how it goes.  I hope it doesn't get infected sad

Ooh, mine didn't do that, either time.  They just came out, nursey gave it a rub to dislodge any loose 'bits', and off I went with no dressing.
