First stage of two tomorrow

Posted , 18 users are following.

Well after several months of waiting I am finally going to have my first stage tomorrow. So by this time tomorrow I'll have no hip joint but will at last be stuffed full of antibiotics.

10 days in hospital will give me lots of time to visit the forum?

Wishing well on your journey to recovery.

two stages of THR usually means you had infection in the hip area? Is that what you are referring to when you mention two stages?

I will ill keep looking for your posts. I want to encourage you to get thru this with as much spunk and determination as possible.

many healing blessings sent your way.😊

Yes, the joint has a chronic infection and so they will take it out tomorrow. All being well I will get my new joint in 6 weeks.

That is so much to cope with, how do you do it. I am very lucky after three THR have not experienced infection.

Do you know what type of infection or what caused it?

Is the infection in the tissue, hopefully not in the bone ?

This last revision I was instructed to take a shower the night before and sleep on clean new sheets and not with my huby. Also was given special wipes to wipe my body down after the shower and in the hospital before surgery. A different wipe for each area of the body 5 .

These wipes were designed to kill the natural bacteria that lives on our skin. Now they do this proceedure along with special intake air fans and surgical space suits in order not to cross contaminate the patient or the equipment.

It has gotten very complicated which is fine considering so many infectious diseases have become antibiotic resistant .

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that there will be a great outcome and you can get back to your life soon .🌞

I think the infection was as a result of bowel surgery. Got rid if the cancer but... Still it is susceptible to antibiotics so should respond.

And this time I'm doing the wash in special stuff, clean sheets etc routine.

I think I did for the previous op too.

      Off to hospital now.

Many blessings thru your journey and post when you can . You are very brave to have endured all that you have, so far something tells me you will be strong and knowing what lies ahead your mobility and the opportunity to walk again is a great incentive. You have survived many health issues you are a survivor.

Good luck Michael. This was a prospect that I faced, as they were worried I had an infection too - fortunately I didn't. It wasn't my first option for the procedure, and I'm sure it wasn't yours either. But you are in good hands and they are doing the best thing for you. So time to chill out and catch up on the reading list? Take care of yourself.

    Hi Michael,

I'm just now seeing your post. So you're already in the hospital.  Let's get to the good stuff right off the bat.  (1) how's the food? (2) are any of the staff hot? (3) do you have a room-mate?  If so are they fun?

Come on this is important when you're going to be there 10 days?   teeheehee

    Keep smiling

Food is so so. From my perspective as a 68 you most of the nurses aattractive.

But the surgery went ok. It's an odd sensation as the hip creaks when I move.

I did manage a few steps yesterday.

Hello Michael I'm quite new to all of this so apologies if I sound a little dim. What exactly are you having done as you have said you won't have a hip joint and will be in hospital for 10 days? I wish you lots of luck with your operation and please keep visiting this forum I have found it invaluable as I really didn't know what to expect following my op. These lovely people have all had very different experiences and it's great to share them with everyone.

Good luck and please keep us up to date

      Hi Happy

I've got a chronic bacterial infection between the femur and the metal.

The cure is to remove all the metalwork and then pump me full of antibiotics for 6 weeks until the infection clears. I can then have a new hip.

All going well so far though it is a bit sore still.

It's a pretty unusual complication so most if you hippies should not get it.

      .

Keep looking at all the positive hip posts and don't worry about complications. I got 8 years out of mine and probably cycled 10,000 miles on it.

Hope to be back on the bike in the summer.
