Hi all,
Advise needed please, my last posted question was when is to much toooo much.
I was very grateful for all the encouragement.
However, having felt well through pacing definitely have done tooo much.
Planning a vintage type garden then making the Apple crates to go in it, was nothing short of stupidity., I have been in and out bed all week and in a lot of pain.
I am on 10mg pred and have been for a few months, would anyone advise me to increase this for a few days.
Fatigue so bad I haven't walked my pup, thankfully have large garden, need to get up and at it as they say.
I hope you are as well as you can be.

Hi Julia, it sounds as though you've been doing a lot of physical and mental activity because you've been feeling good - uh uh, PMR is not happy with this and is telling you to definitely slow down, rest, and perhaps go up a couple of mg to get the inflammation back under control. If you only increase for a few days you can go straight back to your 10mg.dose ... BUT, big but, be gentle with yourself and don't overdo it .. we've all been there, thinking oh great, I feel really good, I'll just do this, that and the other. There's always a complaint from the PMR department Take it easy and hope you feel better very soon, vertically after horizontally for a bit!

Hi,
Thank you for you're prompt reply.
You are so right, I was thinking the other day how well I had been feeling and the jobs I had completed, mainly adding twelve foot onto a large garden by taking out a hedge, utter madness, then making things for the front garden too.
I have always been lucky and had a lot of stamina, Hmn, not anymore.
I appreciate you're kind words.
Hope you are well.

Hi Julia I started on 20mg of prednisolone in March for three weeks then went down to 15mg i am now reducing 1mg each calendar month. I have taken a lot of advise from this forum, reading what is happening with other PMR sufferes, I do get days when I have over done it but I rest and then take it easy for a couple of days which enables me to still take 11mg which I have been taking since August 1. I am trying to,be sensible and listen to my body, so taking it easy having a good book to read takes my
mind off all the things, I wish I was doing but I know by taking it easy I will be able to
achieve those goals. I love Michdonn's advise keep smiling😀 Which is what I try to
do.
Take care Julia keep smiling we will all beat this together.

Increasing the pred will not deal with DOMS, delayed onset muscle soreness. It will help with PMR stiffness and soreness due to inflammation. DOMS is different - it is the response of your muscles to being asked to do too much - the pred doesn't change the disease process, it continues to chug along in the background and makes your muscles intolerant of acute exercise and also unable to tell you that you are doing too much. You have to learn to recognise your limits and keep within them to avoid the problem.
There are things you can do, there will things you can't do without making yourself ill. It is your choice and no-one can make it for you. Everyone has been there - when you are new to PMR you don't really know your limits and some people don't make the connection between the good and bad days: you have a good day, you do too much and then you have a bad day. On the bad day your rest more - and so you have a good day.
But that list of tasks in that time span would make me quail when healthy - you need about 10 times as long with PMR and you also have to insert rest days between the active days!!!!

Hi Eileen,
Thank you for you're reply,
I have been really silly and paid for it, I have felt really ill.
You are so right 're, good days, just get cracking which is what I have always done.
Sensible would be to do one "small" project one day and rest the next.
I am sure all would agree, nothing worse than the "mind willing and body weak".
Hope you are well.

Dirk, I in 8 days I will be 80, last winter worked 4 to 6 days a week as ski instructor, skied 5-7 days a week, plan to do the same this winter. I am having some problems with my balance so I have not been riding my bicycle, but normally walking 15,000 step a day, first 5,000 swing 5 lb weights. I work every day trying to get better and stronger. Some days I over do it, like the other day, backed off increased Pred and only walked 10K steps with no weights. Today going out with my weights and see how I do with a smile on my face. 🙂
Life is good!

I'm smiling laying on my bed. Just ran out of gas. Have a great weekend. I'm going to the theatre tomorrow (New York City) to see Bronx Tale. Not used to such a long busy afternoon. Going out to lunch then the show. I'll rest in the morning.
