Flashing arcs and blobs in left eye for 9 years
Posted , 5 users are following.
Persistant flashes in left eye for 9 years. Been to several retinal specialists over the years. All see.nothing wrong and won't offer treatment or any explanation besides traction on vitreous. I can't deal.with it much longer. Why is this happening? Please help. Losing hope. All started after a severe black eye.

How often do you see flashes? I get hundreds per day. And I had shadowing in the left corner a few years ago. I also have a little pain now and then in and near my eye. I'm scared and really don't know how much longer I can mentally deal with this. Is this normal? Because it doesn't feel like it. 9 years is impossible to suffer with this. I am working on a lawsuit soon against the doctors who won't perform vitrectomy. I don't have any other options anymore. Sorry so long. Thanks for replying

wish I had a answer there is no device to detect this problem so many have and doctors are blowing people off with the wait and see bull... Go to face book type in negative dysphotopsia.

I've also had shadowing a few years ago in the injured eye. I can't believe doctors don't take this seriously. I have about a couple hundred orore flashes per day, depending what lighting I am in. I can't even relax and read or use my smartphone anymore because of this. I think I have to file a lawsuit at this point because this negligence and non treatment. Of this has left me mentally spent.. 9 years of my life gone. Oh and I get pain in and near my eyebrow from this. Thanks for replying.

How long have your symptoms been going on? Mine are getting worse which I hope means the traction will release soon. It's so hard to deal with. I can't believe it's been 9 years wit this. I might have to get on anxiety meds, but I'm afraid they won't help since I will still see the arcs constantly. I have to wear an eyepatch a lot and I hate that. I cant even relax anymore having this. How often are your flashes? I get hundreds per day, and now they have stared happening going from light to dark without even blinking my eye. Otherwise when I blink it flashes 4 to 5 times in a row.

Why don't doctors treat trauma related pvd? It makes no sense to me. I have heard of treatment for this in other countries but not the USA? Ugh.

Thank you for responding
I feel like I am the only person in the world suffering with this. I am only 45 years old. I feel like a case study. I don't know if suing the retinal docs I've seen would help either.

Yup. Went to 3 retinal specialts a couple times each over the years. Then I went to my mom's eye doctor and she found the beginning of cataract and scarring in NY damaged eye. The retinaI people saw nothing wrong apparantly. I am a high myope so that doesn't help. I have had Oct scans, optical mapping and every thing short of a floracine angiogram of my eye. I also have sporadic.pain in and around my eye.

I don't think they realize how.much this affects lives. They do vitrectomy for floaters but not for severe flashing from forced pvd.

To me the flashing constantly is far.more disturbing than the worse case.of floaters. I would rather be blind in my left eye at this point, even thought of ramming my fist down my eye socket to finish the pvd off. Sorry, I'm at the end of my rope on this.
