Posted , 5 users are following.

Persistant flashes in left eye for 9 years. Been to several retinal specialists over the years. All see.nothing wrong and won't offer treatment or any explanation besides traction on vitreous. I can't deal.with it much longer. Why is this happening? Please help. Losing hope. All started after a severe black eye.

Can u imagine,i have this in both eyes im 59.ugh,and oh the anxiety med helps some, takes the edge off, also some wine now and then lol.

No, I can't imagine both eyes. But one eye for almost 10 years is enough to put me in a straightjacket. I'm only 45 and can't wait until my eye naturally takes care of this.

Yeah, beer for me but even that gets old. I can't even relax and read or watch tv without this visual nightmare, all waking hours of the day.

And no one understands how unnerveing it is,none of my family gets it. That makes it hard.

I know..hard to watch tv etc. I wea r sunglasses outside even on cloudy days, for awhile i wore them in the house, now with symptoms worse,i still see the symptoms. Im sorry you have to go through all this..i have thought about wearing an eye patch at times, seems the more anxious i get about it,the worse the symptoms get.

Hi I kind of have the same problem but in different way.

Doctors still could not tell me that what I am suffering from.

Few mounths ago I began seeing a dark dime sized blackness in the left eye only when I was laying down. But whenever I sat up it would go away slowly after few minutes. So I thought I was losing my sight therefore I ran to an eye dr. After I've explained everything to her she checked the eye pressures, took a picture from both eyes, then I did the clicking test, then she dilated both eyes and looked them up. She told me she couldn't find anything abnormal. She couldn't tell me that what I was dealing with. Then I asked my dr for brain MRI which didn't show anything. But I do have neck back back pain only in left side and I noticed that whenever I have pain specially when I am laied down I see the dark shadow.

I found out that this phenomena happens only when I am laying down.

Beacuse when I am up and around I don't see it at all.

By the way, when I sleep on my back the pain on my neck and head gets worse and when I open my eyes I see the darkness with the left eye which gets darker than when I am in a less pain.

This puzzles me that why this thing onlly happens in the laying position?

Is it beacuse there is a pinched nerve that gets more under pressure or is it a optical artery that gets blocked for few minutes?

Then I ask myself does those that sufferes from GCA has the same eye issue or theirs happen out of the sudden and then they get blind right away. The thing that makes me think is why it happens, why it's it stays for few minutes and why it goes away slowly? Is it the same with GCA sufferes of theirs is more perminant?

Other thing is that I have floters in both of my eyes they are very small they move around whenever I move my eyes. I don't see them often just sometimes. But the dime sized darkness in the left eye is happening only on the certain times and that is when I am in a laying position doesn't matter when any time I am flat.

This darkness does not move unlike the tiny floters and sometimes it's not dark I see it like a mirror or shiny thing or lense from inside.

It makes me want to take it away with my fingers.

Whatever it is it's annoying and confusing.

should I go and see another eye dr for second opinion?

What if the problem is not the eye but something else that causes it?

Is it possible that a pinched nerve from the neck or back causes this issue?

Or it's more like a lack of blood that gets to the eye?

I have hundreds of unanswered question.

Doctors are blowing people off , they know the risk and side affects. The wait and see  answer. it will go away give it time. give me a break.

Sorry about your eyes  unless people start bring the problems to the FDA or lawsuit more will suffer .

I don't know what that could be. Pvd maybe. I got shadowing in the left eye thst still flashes a few years ago and it went away in a couple weeks. And the flashing came back.

I have read cervical neck issues can caus eye visual disturbanes, maybe an mri of the neck. Also just think how the eyes change shape when laying down

      Thanks for your respond lee.

This is weird that I only have this visual disturbance upon my waking up.

It seems that I have a nerve pinched or I press on the nerve that is pinched when I lay down.

But scars me. I am afraied to loss my sight beacuse of it. Or something else might happen beacuse of this pinched nerve.

Just get a few more opinions, amazeing the weird symptoms eyes can get,and its nothing serious, just scarey, keep us posted ok?

I know huh. It's weird and scary to deal with unknown. I was resting today and when I open my eyes I could see the dark shadow in the left eye again. It's completey wierd beacuse this phenomena only happens when I am in a sleeping position. My whole left side was in pain too.

I will go to another eye dr this Wednesday for the second opinion. Let's see what he'll say about it.

      Hi Lee

I just came back from the optometrist's office.

Again I went through all the tests including eyes dilation but excluding eye image.

Everything looked fine except the dr told me that he sees 2 little wholes in the left eye retina which is not that bad but he'll want to see me in three mouths, To see if there is any changes. If not he'll send me for the second opinion as well.

One thing that is wired is after eye dilations my left eye is more blurry than the right eye. Is this normal?

He also said that my left eye is weaker than the right eye.

I explained about whatever you and others mentioned that might be the cause. But he said he don't think so.

He said it might be the artery blockage that doesn't let the blood to flow properly to the left eye or it might be a nerve piniching.

But he didn't ask me to go to further checkups to see if there is any artery blockage.

He says that neck problem can cause this issue as well.

Then I've asked about eyes MRI and said it's not needed. They'll aprove it if there was a tumor suspicion.

During the exam when he asked me to look right, left, up and down I felt muscle pain in the left eye.

I wonder how will I find out that what's going on with me.

Hi,i have read about something to do with the eye muscle causing visual disturbances and pain. Often takes a long time to diagnose. Try googling something like that, wish i had saved it. Also optic, nueritis. Ask your regular dr about a mri of your neck...its so unnerveing but stuff like this is usually beniegn. Also ask for an OCT scan, that will confirm problems with the retna etc. Keep us posted.

I sometimes get the mirror shiny thing,i think thats from floater from my pvd.

      Thanks lee for the replaying.

I've already asked the eye dr for further invistagotion like MRI or any imaging tests that could give us better picture but he said nope there is no need. He said just come back in three months that I can check your eyes again. But when I was reading about the hole in retina on line I saw that when drs sees it they immediately take action I wonder why he didn't do that. Why he wants to wait for three mounths what if I have complete retina detachment. He also said that he can get the second opinion as well. I don't understand doctors anymore. They don't take us serious they just say don't search online. It will hurt you and scare you well then you should explain what are you talking about not only mention a word or something and think we know everything.

      😔

Id ask my regular drs opinion about the mri. If there are any changes go back to the eye doctor or seek another opinion. We hire them right?

      Hi lee

I've asked the eye dr for OCT scan and she said she did it on August and everything was normal.

I've asked her to refer me to specialist. And she said ok.

Is it possible that I developed retina problem now.
