so after my Rezum yesterday I drain about every hour or two at this point.. my flow starts and its fairly strong. at the end it stops abruptly and i get a sharp pain in my penis - base and tip. every time same thing. then i get a much slower dribble with like a vibration along my shaft i feel like I'm peeing pretty good but not much is coming out...
anyone else experience this? anyone know whats causing it?
thank you

Is this a Foley catheter question? I don't understand what you are asking. Do you have a Foley catheter inserted and in place?

Badbolr,
OK, so you DO have a Foley in.
Now, it's very important that you secure the Foley in place so it doesn't move much and there is no tugging sensation that can cause bladder irritation. Make sure the drain tube is securely taped to your leg. The uro nurse should have given you little butterfly tapes that attach the tube to your leg. Then, make sure the tube is lubricated where it enters the penis - I used Neosporin, a triple antibiotic, but you can also use any antibiotic lubricant used for self cath. I had the tube and penis supported in my underwear by pads of toilet tissue so there was little movement.
A Foley is designed to allow continuous irrigation of the bladder, so you are peeing all the time. You don't have to try to pee - it just happens, day and night. Make sure the leg bag is emptied frequently, otherwise it can get heavy. At night you have to empty it a couple of times, or use what is called a night bag, that has much higher capacity. It's possible that the sensations you are experiencing are because you aren't following the above and the drain tube is irritating your bladder and penis. Also, with a Foley in place it might be painful to sit on a toilet seat, so you might have to learn to do things standing up. I have had Foleys in that didn't cause this issue, but my last one did, as it was a 20 fr - rather large. The smaller the size, the less irritating it is to the bladder.
I believe that once you get your Foley properly secured and lubricated, you should feel much better. It normally takes about three days for your tissues to get "used to" the Foley, then everything is much easier.

I am twelve (12) days post REZUM and there is still blood in my urine. The bladder spasms have calmed but I AM taking oxybutrin for the spasms. I don't know if I will be able to pee on my own after the cath is taken out this coming Tuesday but if not, I'm going to ask the doctor to teach me how to self-cath so I don't have to have the Foley put back in place. I have seen some youtube videos on it and it doesn't look that difficult.

Self cathing is a great skill to have, even if you don't need it. Odds are you should be OK without self cathing. Good luck!

Yes, three days is what they show you in the REZUM videos but that is best case scenario. I had mine removed after three days and the swelling was so bad that I simply could not pee. Went another four days and still couldn't pee so the doctor decided to go another seven days to see if swelling goes down enough for me to pee. They don't tell you this in the REZUM advertisement videos. It's false advertising if you ask me. Now, after the procedure is done, the doctor tells me that two to three weeks on a catheter is normal. Thanks a lot right?

yeah! its a lot more than 3 days!! i guess i'll know for myself in the morning. At this point I'm almost in favor of leaving it in until next Mon. 10 days total

Vernon,
Self cath doesn't look difficult, but there is a learning curve. The first time I tried it there was too much pain to complete the job. I then sent for sample catheters and was eventually able to complete a CIC using a 14fr hydrophilic antibacterial catheter. Assuming you can slide the catheter in there are two points of resistance. The first is the prostate and you have to push a bit to move the catheter at that point. The second point is the bladder opening. I was able to get the catheter to go in by a gentle coughing - learned this from the net. Anyway, I was able to CIC a few times but it wasn't easy. The smaller the diameter of the catheter the easier. Some use 12fr or even 10fr. It takes longer to drain the bladder with the smaller sizes but the in and out is easier.
The last time I tried, this past January, I was unable to complete the job - too much pain. My urethral lining is very sensitive. Perhaps I didn't have enough lube, but I had to stop. A few weeks later I had a bipolar TURP and had a Foley in for three days post op. This was my eighth Foley so I am familiar with the drill, but this one was a big 20fr and it did irritate my bladder and was a bit painful to pull out on the third day. You can remove your own Foley in the shower by cutting the little drain tube, then deflate the balloon in your bladder, then gently slide the drain tube out with warm water running over your lower abdomen. It's a lot less irritating than having the uro nurse yank it out - hold your breath and close your eyes and zing - ouch!!.

That's very much in line with my Rezum recovery experience and in line with what is normal. It's caused by irritation of the bladder and urethra, causing the sensations you have described. All should diminish over the next week or so. Pretty concerning time for any guy, for sure.
Good luck with your recovery.

steve19821 You answered Bdbolr's question but it sounds like you did not have a catheter when you had his symptoms. Did you have a catheter after REZUM and if so, for how long?
