Fostepor once weekly 70mg

Happy new year to all of us.

I'm a 59 year old male, started prednisolone on Dec 16th, 20 mg now on 25mg and still have very sore shoulders and arms but able to walk, did 3 and a half miles yesterday. Woo hoo.

my rhuemy prescribed Fostepor (alendronic acid) and after reading the warnings and side effects got a bit worried. Very common side effect was severe joint, muscle and bone pain. I've just started taking Pred prescisly because of that sort of pain. Has anyone got any advice or reasurance before I start taking this. I, like most people I'm sure, have always shied away from taking drugs unless nessasary so would like to hear as much as I can before I start popping pills.

Peace

Ron

Glad you posted this Ron.  I was 53 when I got PMR, 1 year ago.

Led active life until last 5 years when I pulled a muscle in lower abs.

I think DEXA scan and chest X-ray should be a must as baseline for PMR people.  I got those done almost a year later and sure enough I have osteoporosis and my chest X-ray said moderate COPD, which I'm NOT a smoker nor live in polluted area.  So... Is that part of PMR? Or could a prednisone act that quick to encourage osteoporosis??? Don't know.

i was a runner, so how could I have it? And did weights, but not a lot, but more than most. But Geez, thought I was too young to have all this going on.

SO, I hope doctors will require a baseline! Just to put us at ease, i stressed about those findings, though now...not so much and I'm not going to take more pills at this time.

"I was a runner, so how could I have it"  Can you read my mind Layne?

The first symptoms that I could put a finger on was last April (ish). Remember telling a workmate that I can't seem to run. He asked if it was too painful but I said that it was as if my legs had forgotten how to run. Very peculiar.

Yes - that describes how my legs felt during step classes! There was no spring in my feet and it felt as if I was trying to haul myself up rather than pushing off one foot to half jump up. And there was this feeling I had lead shoes on rather than trainers.

Tastyron this is really interesting.  I recall having that sensation in 2007 when I was forced to join in an ethnic dance during shipboard entertainment.  Thought I'd crumple and be trampled under the dancing feet!  That's eight years before pmr diagnosis....
