Fragments injections

Hi all,

I'm 3 weeks in now and still having to inject myself every day.

I absolutely hate doing it, is there any alternative at all, is it really necessary?

I have the biggest bruise - it's like 2" X 1" and black!!

Is there any point talking to my doctor or do I just have to grit my teeth for another 3 weeks?

I hate wearing the stockings too, but I'd happily wear them all year if it meant I could stop injecting. sad

Well thank you everyone. After speaking to my doctor, it looks as tho I'm in for the long haul sad surgeons orders and that is that!

I do try inject a different bit each day, but the bruised area is quite big and a large area around that is very sore sad goodness only knows what I did on that one sad

I shall definately try the ice trick tho, it certainly won't hurt.

Hold your skin like shown and when you have done the injection count to 10 before you take the needle out. Do not rub it afterwards or this will cause bruising. xx

Massive difference in surgeons convictions! In hospital, pulsating inflatable cradle for op leg, no stockings at any time, one injection in hospital and anti-coag tablet, on nightly, for three weeks!  Happy bunny!

I was given TED stocking ( medevil torched devices ) 😆 I have a severe needle phobia so did not have the needles. As well as the TED stockings I was told to take aspirin (75 mg I think it was ) every day for 6 weeks. So if you do not want to continue with the injections go and talk to your GP or your consultant for alternatives there are a good few to choose from without having to inject yourself. Just make sure you keep mobile and do your foot pumps many times a day as you can. Keeping mobile is the best deterant against DVT.

    Thanks for all your advice.

The mobility thing is what I don't really understand, I am moving far more now than before my op.

Anyway, my follow up appointment with the surgeon isn't until 6 weeks and doc says I have to do what the surgeon, said so looks like I better get used to it.

I will try the tips Ive been given tho, thank you x

Hi, I was on the injections in hospital but kept insisting I would not be able to do them myself due to a needle phobia so the nurses spoke to my surgeon and he allowed them to change me to two asprins a day for 4 weeks. So I suggest you talk to your Dr it can't hurt.

My surgery had to be cancelled once because of Blood clot in leg, caused by inability to walk at all.  I was put on Xarelto, relativity new drug for DVT. Well what a fuss that caused, as the hospital doing THR did not have it approved for Hip replacement patients.  My GP was abused by the hospital for putting me on it. He then rang Blood vessel specialist, and he said no in her case leave me on it. The end result was after my surgery what was I given Xarelto, by the same hospital would had abused GP a few weeks previous.  I do have under lying arthritis, and I was taking and still am Metrotrextrate, which I inject once a week, under the supervision of a rhemotologist, and she calls me her most intractable patient, nothing has worked to settle my inflamation of my joints, and I am now down to biologicals, and I believe she is reluctant to give them to me, as I have had cancer, and I am showing something in my blood she is not happy about.
