Fundoplication failure
Posted , 30 users are following.
I had a lap' Nissen fundoplication about 10 years ago. The operation changed my life. For the first time in 25 years I could eat and drink what and when I wanted.
About a year ago my original symptoms began to reappear and have got progressively worse and I I am now on 40mg omeprazole a day. I am seeing a consultant in whom I have little faith and is very young.
I am trying to find out about a "redo". Most of the information and data about redos is on american websites.
Has anyone had a fundoplication which has failed?
Has anyone had a redo?
Does anyone know of a consultant who specialises in fundoplication redos?
Thanks, Simon.

Hello Simon and everyone ,
I am 34 years old and had the Fundoplocation when I was 10. It was a complete success and had regular check ups throughout the years (the last endoscopy was 4 years ago and was told my cells are fine) however recently , due to bad anxiety, I’m having reflux again and it’s bad at night. I’m taking esomeprazole 20mg tablets to ease symptoms and I am going to see Doctor tomorrow to get him to book me in for another endoscopy. Of course I’m nervous because acid reflux should not be happening and I’m worried it’s cancer. I am very healthy and go to gym . I don’t smoke and rarely drink (Glass of wine now & again with meal!). I’ll keep you guys posted and hope you’re all getting better. Fingers crossed my symptoms don’t indicate my cells have changed because that would worry me.
Best wishes from the UK and sending healing to you all x

Hi Simon
I had the nissan in 2014. I have had choking, coughing, constant throat clearing, and a constant post nasal drip. All because a baruim swallow test showed that although the nissan is still tight, I have signifigant acid reflux. My ENT wants me to go back to the surgeon who did the nissan to see if there is a way to "enhance it". He also wants me to see a GI doc about getting an EGD? done.
I am so tired of waking up coughing and choking on whatever is in my throat. I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I also have a paralyzed vocal chord from a thyroidectomy that used to cause laryngial spasms. The same kind of choking symptom.
Can anyone relate?
