In desperation I spent a couple of hours and managed to get the whole first page of notifications to be for a single long thread and pressed the mark all as read button, hoping it would be for that page only. Well, it marked ALL as read. But oddly enough the "NEXT PAGE" button appeared at the bottom.
This is not very useful as I know there are posts from several day ago which I haven't read, but every time I get far enough to think, maybe I didn't read this one, and go to look (so far have actually seen them all) I have to return to the top of the list again and commence scrolling down all over again.
In the good old days of not so long ago (and this is making the last rather horrible update look good) you could at least tell what you hadn't read yet because those posts all stayed at the top of your list of notifications. Others would drop down, still accessible if you wanted them, into chronological order below. In even better times before this fiasco started the 'read' and 'unread' posts were distinguished by colour so it was much more user friendly and really easy to go through and mark as read all the posts you'd just read in a particular thread. You also always could tell if you had followed a new post. Now there's no way to tell unless you go to the post .... and then have to start your endless downward scrolling all over again when you return to the list.
I think I shall have to give it up as a bad job any attempt to read the contributions from a few days ago. I'll never get there.....

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. At the risk of repeating myself...
But I am feeling quite proud of my efforts today - I have caught up. And have read some 200 new threads in their entirety. Occasionally skim reading but nevertheless I have looked at every single post. Lord help me - I must be mad...

oddly enough....one more problem I've just uncovered! l would NEVER have n seen this post as it was in a WHOLE different area from the "norm"! it was in the 'promotional' section of my emails (as opposed to the regular area)....had I not been trying to "clean out" some of my general emails ie, social, promotional, etc.....I'd never have seen this one from you Anhaga!
now I'm wondering how many others have gone ignored by me (albeit, unintentionally!) ππ΅π

It does always pay to check your Spam folder! That is the only other place my stuff might go - but it hasn't.

I KNOW!! that's what I'm concerned with as well! I don't ever want someone to feel ignored or have hurt feelings cuz of me....that's NOT what I'm all about! quite the contrary, I TRY to support folks and even bring a smile to their face....unfortunately, the way this format seems to be so messed up....I think I may be failingπ

I doubt it - we are all quite equable around here - none of us is indispensable and we all catch up eventually. You are getting yourself into a tizzy and doing yourself no good. Try to take it more as it comes - and YOU will feel better for it too.

that is exactly where my notifications go. I don't mind, because it is almost exclusively from this site , with few additions. I go to main site anyway and then read them from "notification" page

When you meet stuff like this that you aren't familiar with just use Mr Google - you will find something about almost every mystifying term some of us use! And you don;t have to wait for us to explain.

There's a myth about a man called Sisyphus who was condemned to push a boulder up hill. Every time he got nearly to the top it would roll back down and he'd have to start all over again. like me trying to read all the back posts I missed over the past few days because I do have another life and other things to do....

Hi EileenH
Thanks for your reply.
The address you gave me?!π when i press on it nothing happens...is it suppose to take me to a particular site? if so it's not happening. This happens every time i get these. I press and nothing happens. They used to be in blue txt and you could press on it and it would take you to the site, but they are plain black like rest of txt.. A good job Anhaga has explained what 'Sisyphus' is ππ....

The link probably isn't "live". Copy and paste it into your browser and it should work.

Hi Anhaga
What we have to do is press on it quite firmly then little icons appear above it with 'share' 'copy, 'web search' and others i pressed 'web search' and it took me there. I know what to do now. Yaaay!πβπ...thanks Anhaga...we learn something every day.....it's a big upheaval when moving good wishes your way with your move.....π

Ah, I've learned a new thing too. I suppose that only works with a touch screen if you're on a computer not a phone.

Hi Anhaga
No, i did that on my phone. I always use my phone on the forum. Hope your move is going well...

It should do - and this is new for me if it isn't. Yes, I see it isn't in blue and no, I can't click on it either. And you don't see until you have posted your reply and there is no edit to work out what is wrong. You could still cut and paste on a computer to get it but I imagine you can't do that too easily on a phone? I wouldn't know!
More c*^% no doubt...

Hi EileenH
Thanks Eileen, I have sorted it now. I have a computer but always use my phone. What i did was press firmly on the address you sent me and little icons appeared above the address 'copy' 'share' and 'web search' and others. I pressed 'web search' and it took me straight there....Sorted!...ππ€ another newby that we have discovered for ourselves......have a good start to your week....π

I don't have a touch screen on this new computer so can't try it but I can't access the link myself. Which is VERY annoying...
nick67069 EileenH

Here is how to do it... Look above and you will see icon for link ( looks like infinity symbol. If you click on it, it will insert "" on the screen and you can paste link in between the [ link here] parenthesis
http://www.mythweb.com/encyc/entries/sisyphus.html
or if you insert it as a plain text then the following will work:
put the mouse over the link and highlight the whole link
then right-click on the highlight and you will have choice to open the link in the new window...
nick67069 EileenH

and because I inserted your web site as a link, it is waiting to be moderated π¦
so maybe plane text is better...
http://www.mythweb.com/encyc/entries/sisyphus.html
then right click on it and choose "open in the new window"

Thank you nick - suppose it goes back to my whinge at the start of this that a page of instructions would have been helpful!
I also have a new computer to get used to - the keyboard doesn't have a delete button, just backspace, so I have to reposition the cursor to delete stuff, and no lock capitals key - so I keep getting the search function as that key is there. Otherwise I'm fairly impressed with this Chromebook - little and light and the battery lasts for ages!

PS, I have to block the plain text link before rightclicking...

Hi all,
Regarding adding links:
Copying and pasting links as text into a reply will show them as plain text as per Eileen's example above so they are not "hot" or clickable. I reported this as part of testing and it will get fixed.
To insert an active link it is not quite as Nick explained as that will go to a blank page.
What you do is is click on the link icon on the editor (2 chain links). If you enter text in the square brackets and then the actual link in the round brackets the typed text will be hot to the link as below.
Enter:
Click this link
If you want the link to appear in full and hot enter the link between both sets of brackets as per:
http://www.mythweb.com/encyc/entries/sisyphus.html
Note: when you open the icon https:// appears in the round brackets by default so you may need to remove that if copying/pasting a url from a browser address bar.
I have asked for making copied/pasted links into posts work a high priority. In the meantime you will need to copy and paste them into a browser window or highlight and right click as Nick explained. For phones and devices Mary's reply above about pressing and holding over the link will give the web search option to open them.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Mary,
It is suppose to work, but as Alan explained, there is a bug on this web site so it leads to a blank page. It is how it should work, but it is broken. Sorry that I did not realize problem at the time.

I have "fixed" all of the links above so they should all work now. As I said above, the bug where pasting a link in does not appear on site as "hot" will get fixed in the near future.
