    Hi Minnie,

So sorry for the delay in replying.  My operation is scheduled for 4 weeks time at 'Hope Hospital'.  My Sister had an op at Trafford General and she was happy with the treatment she received there.  i was given a rough idea of how long the waiting list was when i saw the surgeon. Didn't they give you any idea as to how long you would need to wait?

i think it's very common for people to be petrified about having a general anaestetic but in the past 30 years there have been massive improvements made.  Remember the anaestesiologist will have the sole job of carefully monitoring your lungs, circulation, blood pressure... all your 'vital signs' constantly throughout the operation. The idea of you having your pre-op is to thoroughly check that you are fit to have the surgery. I've recently been having massive panic attacks just at the point of walking throught the revolving doors into the hospital so i could actually do with being given a general anaestetic as soon as i arrive in the car park and being taking straight from the car to the operating theatre!! I hope that you're doing ok - i know that this is a massive, horrible worry to have hanging over you.  Take Care

      Hi Carol

I wasnt given any indication of the waiting list although I didnt ask.  Did you sister have her gall bladder out as well, if so how did she find it afterwards I have heard so many mixed things about the recovery.  I'm glad I am not the only one who has a fear of thaving a General.  I know last time I had one my blood pressure apparently went very low so I keep thinking about this as well. I hope your operation is a total success and that you have a speedy recovery.  Take care and best of luck.

    Hi Minnie,

No, my Sister didn't have a gallbladder op.  If i were you i would find out the phone number of your surgeons secretary - give her a ring and she should be able to give you a date or at least some idea of how long you would have to wait.  I am also very worried about the 'after effects' of this surgery after reading so many negative reports on the internet.  i think you just have to tell yourself that these people (who i have the greatest sympathy with) are only a very small proportion of the people who have this operation - most people would be so relieved to be pain free that they'd just carry on with their lives. Try googling 'I feel great after gallbladder surgery' ... just so that you get to read some 'positive' stories.  biggrin
