Gall stones

Hi everyone, so last weekend had horrendous pain in right side of stomach just below boobs, was violently sick along with it assuming as pain was so horrendous. Went to see the gp who is requesting a scan and did blood tests there and then. Said it could possibly be gall stones. He rang me the next day with the blood results to say that I had raised liver levels. Has anyone else experienced raises blood levels with gall stones?!
Has got me rather worries and still waitin on scan. I've had a few more nights with awful pains and others have been pain free (thank god) also have a dull ache in the day time and is uncomfortable just walking. Just interested to hear what everyone else has experienced.

I have just come out of a week stay in hospital. I do have gallstones and during my blood tests they said my Liver tests were deranged?! My understanding of it was that It was because I had gallstones stuck in the bile duct.
not sure if that helps us best I got

Least I know that it can affect liver blood results. Oh dear are you having removed? Did you have dull ache day times at all? Mine just seems constant.
Thanks for reply 😀

I was in pain and sick all day for 6 days..
I was pain and sickness managed the whole time in hospital. It was literally, the worse stage of a gallbladder attack, but constant.... I had an ERCP to remove the loose stones and I have surgery to remove my gallbladder next Thursday:-)

Hi. Yes mine were 'deranged' as well. And quite abnormal too! But they sorted themselves out, in fact the blockage of the bile duct seemed to clear itself, but they took out the gallbladder as it was likely to happen again. Two weeks later I am still tender and trying not to do anything silly like lifting or straining etc. Staples are out, open surgery. All the best.

Try eating small, more frequent meals: avoid large heavy meals. Also eat a low fat diet- if it is gallstones, this helps control the symptoms.
I'm afraid gallbladder issues usually entail a long wait as there are so many patients waiting. My GP actually laughed when I told him I was waiting for elective cholecystectomy.
My first symptom was lack of appetite. I couldn't work out why. I felt generally unwell. This went on for about six months before I had an attack. I was also extremely tired, exacerbated later by some attacks lasting 3-4 days and not being able to sleep or eat during them.
My pain was more central than right sided and later on I got right shoulder pain. I was never sick but had awful nausea and some diarrhoea immediately after eating. Also had right sided headaches and not usually prone to headaches. The worst symptom was that my stomach felt like it was about to explode.
By the time I had my surgery more than a year on, I was exhausted.
It must be hard for you having young children. Obviously that must be frightening for them too. Hope you hear about your scan soon.

Experienced all and more !! It sounds like your gallbladder just had mine out after a couple of years of different tests to find the cause of lots of problems over lots of years suffering and it was my gallbladder. I know it's early days my overall body is free from pain immediately I had the gb out on Thursday. The gallbladder can be blamed for a lot of symptoms. Good luck 😉

I also can happily eat coconut yogurt, pork sausages, minimal healthy oils, small amount of nuts and seeds and fresh lamb with no issues ( I cannot eat dairy. lamb sausages, eggs, gluten and too many potatoes or too many nuts) If I eat too much in one meal I do suffer with pain in my stomach, however ox bile and digestive enzymes do help a lot with the bloating. I do feel nauseous most of the time,
It seems that symptoms can vary with everyone. I get a few weeks with minimal symptoms and then bam they hit, can be mild of the stomach pain can have me doubled over, seems to no longer be controlled by any foods as I did in the beginning but random now. I have also lost 14-15kg so far and almost underweight as I wasnt over weight to start with, I also have 4 kids and 3 live at home, as well as self employed, so it has been a hard journey and I am ALWAYS exhausated, more so lately

I had my gallbladder out on Feb 7 of this year. I suffered really bad pains from my gall bladder, where I bent over in pain. It took them two years when they decided to remove it. My liver was acting up too because of my gall stones. I had alot of them. Drink some water when it happens with the pains from the gall stones. Stay away from greasey and fatty foods and don't have alot of dairy. Skim milk is the best for gallstones. The less the fat the better

I'm so sorry to hear of your pain. I had raised liver readings with gallstones. Each gallstone attack would last 6-12 hours and an attack would present differently depending on its severity and what I'd eaten. After 2 years of suffering with this terrible pain I finally had my GB removed two days ago. Apart from feeling tired and a little tender, I have never felt better! While you're going through this try to eat little and often, and eat fewer foods that have over 5g of fat per 100g which will help keep your flare ups at bay. I hope you get to the root of your problems soon

Oh dear. I've just eaten lamb ?chops, baked potatoes, broccoli, peas, onion sauce, followed by a large helping of trifle. I'm obviously feeling a bit better, but the next few hours will be interesting. I did cut the fat off the chops though. It's 9.15 pm here now and I must admit I'm a bit worried. At my great age I really should know better.

Thanks for all the replies. Did you experience attacks everyday? Because I can go a few days apart? Had one yesterday much much earlier in the eve that only last about half an hour?
I've been on a low fat diet for the past 4 months so haven't been eating anything fatty to trigger off the pains?
Ive been told coffee isn't good?!

While eating 100% healthy I could keep away the attacks. Over christmas I got excited and ate some chocolate and that started it all up again. I had pain for over a week, then it would disappear and come back again after days or weeks over the next few months. I've just had my GB out and I've never felt better. I'm two days post op and enjoying the first piece of choc since Christmas and without pain 😊

I wonder why I can't keep mine at bay then?! All I've had the past week is toast... can bread trigger it? Seems weird having 5 days with just mild ache pain the a full on last night with no change in diet

After a mega flare up I had to completely starve and not drink anything for 24 hours otherwise it'd carry on for days. Bread inflates in the belly so can flare you up inside moreso when you're already tender. Try small amounts of plain rice and cooked vegetables as they may settle you. You poor thing going through this. 😐 I really feel your pain and hope you have some relief very soon. Let me know how you get on x

Hi Fiona
My attacks were erratic. Sometimes went for a couple of weeks with nothing more than discomfort then major attack for no apparent reason. Maybe due to stone in bile duct moving??
When you have a bad attack, try brats diet: bananas, rice, applesauce, tea and toast. This is used in some hospitals to settle symptoms. Plain boiled rice is particularly good, if boring. I found I couldn't eat anything during attacks which sometimes lasted 3-4 days. Couldn't sleep either so was exhausted.
Medics just seem to ignore the effect it has on patients being left to suffer bad pain. Someone should do a study on how constant pain affects patients psychologically not just physiologically. Think their gung-ho attitude is because they can't cope with number of patients but that's no consolation if you happen to be a gallstone sufferer. It's almost treated as a joke.

Totally agree. I'd spent the last two years exhausted, running low on energy and in pain to find out I had multiple gallstones causing biliary colic. The pain would start once the gallbladder started contracting to expel a stone causing everything else to flare up. For people going through this it is hell. Eating plain food and then being laid up for hours or days on end in pain is draining physically and mentally .
