Gallbladder is gone so where is this pain from?

HI
Had the dreaded gallbladder removed last June after only 7 months of pain (so I'm pretty lucky).
Everything went well, home the same day - took a good 4 weeks to feel totally better after the op but eating was ok and I don't seem to be affected by bowel issues like some people.
Only problem is I have dull ache in exactly the same place I used to get the gallbladder pain. It's not intense pain but it's in the front RUQ under my ribs and moves round the side and to my back.
It doesn't seem to appear after anything in particular and most of the time it's there constantly. Suppose it's more of an annoyance than anything else because I'm always aware of this ache. I'm quite reluctant to go to my GP because after spending about 7 months constantly in the surgery last year updating painkillers and nausea pills I don't want them to think I'm addicted to medical attention.
Just wondered if anyone had anything similar or if it's just a by-product of surgery that I'll have to get on with?
Thanks

and i also have been having the pain betwen shoulder blades, i think its only after certain foods, and i certainly don't have it after sleeping or rest. It normally comes a couple of hours after eating, i may start elliminating some foods from my diet, but its hard to know which ones may eb causing the pain, i don,t always get it but almost always. I too have taken some omeprazol, but they don't seem to help that much, and i don,t want to have to take painkillers all the time, and only the strong ones work anyway, and they make me a little nauteous and drowsy too. any further feedback would be great...

Did you ever get a solution or explanation to your post gallbladder ache?
Mine was removed after i had severe acute pancreatitis and apparently the gallbladder had got shrivelled and shrunken.
This was 13 months ago and my sympoms and after effects are identical to yours, i could have written your post! i have an almost permanent ache but it's like surface wound and not a down the bone ache now. i also just let it ride and have got used to it. It does get worse if i do anything active or eat creamy food. Last week, after vacuum sealed smoked haddock off the deli counter, it felt like i had gone back in time and the gallstone ( i only had the 1) was blocking my bile duct again, so intense was the pain.
It would be cool if you'd had a solution as i have a doctor's appt in 2 wks and i feel it's a bit trivial to go back for an annoying ache. The blood tests i had last week for liver and pancreas must have been clear, as i know from past experience that he calls me within 3 days if anything wasn't right.
Thanks

I was diagnosed with pancreatitis when I was 23 years old. My doctor did not believe I had pancreatitis due to the fact that I had never smoked nor did I drink alcohol. He sent me home with some laxatives for a week. I battled with it for 10 years going in and out of hospitals, visiting many doctors. And on the 10th year I moved to Mississippi and found a doctor who recommended removing the gallbladder. The surgeon noted that the gallbladder was shaped oddly and elongated. Right away I could tell the difference. I didn't feel the pain I was starting to feel a daily basis. For two years I thought I was cured and all I have to deal with is diarrhea every day . But, on the very exact day, two years after my surgery, I was back in the ER with pancreatitis. After that I started feeling pain almost every day. It wasn't as bad as pancreatitis but it was up there. Now instead of having severe pain every once in a while, I have to deal with diarrhea and more than moderate pain, every day. I can no longer be depended on. I have to cancel many meetings, I have to miss a lot of appointments, I'm constantly late, I dread road trips, my wife gets frustrated with me, my boss gets frustrated with me, my friends also. I have a family to provide for. I don't understand how anyone can live like this. I've tried many diets, gluten-free, 10 g of fat per day, dairy free, only vegetables, etc.
I've come to the conclusion that it has something to do with bile. I did some research and found a dietary supplement called Chalocol. It contains bile salts and a few other things. It took my pain away for about a week. And I must say that it has helped and I have much improved since taking. Although I still take pain pills, I don't need to take them every day while using the supplement and it did work a lot better the first week I took it.
Sometimes I think that perhaps because of dealing with Pancreatitis for so long it might be too late for me but perhaps my story can somewhat help someone. I feel like this has been turned into a support group.
Thanks for reading and sharing your stories.

Your story reminds me of me. The difference being that I had the dull ache under the ribs as you describe. About six months later I was told it was probably scar tissue and that if possible live with it, as trying to ease by an operation was awkward and not guaranteed to succed. NOW 28 years later its still there and getting worse. Nothing shows up on the scans. I am now going under the pain clinic and expecting to have injections to ease the pain. Failing that its an op on the back in an attempt to kill the nerves leading from the rib area.... I see your note is over a year old so hopefully you have found a cure. If not....Dont leave it. It dont get better.

i too had these symptoms after having my gb removed. my advise to you and your daughter is go back to your doctor and ask them to refer you to a gastro specialist. i am under one in manchester. i had sphincterectomy done last dec after nearly two years of suffering. since dec 2013 my symptoms have settled a lot. i also take esomeprazole and ranitidine for my stomach. good luck and let us know how she gets on.
